Every July 4th, the Boston Pops plays this at the Esplanade just before the fireworks show begins. It's a tradition started, I think, by Arthur Fiedler.

ReplyDeleteHaving sat 1'st chair in Jr. High and High School band and orchestra (1'st trumpet) I have an appreciation for Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, Schubert, as well as most accomplished composers of the classical era.

A good piece to listen to in the car (if all you can get on radio is Rush) and since it commemorates the
ReplyDeletevictory over Napoleon, a good one to have on while you wade through 'War And Peace'. Me, I cannot resist an overture which is scored for artillery and ends in a celebratory cacophony of pealing bells!
