Socialism Through the Eyes of One Who Saw the Results First Hand...

A very big h/t to the Left Coast Rebel. An excellent find!

The journey towards socialism can be a slow one. A journey on which our country has been drifting (or sliding) for many years, albeit more in the fascist variant than Marxism. This immigrant from Hungary, a socialist state under the iron fist of the USSR knows first hand what evils can, and often do accompany any of the variants of socialism. A condition of existence in which the individual, and individual initiative is subordinate to the state.
Sound eerily familiar? Just a slight bit? If so do your part to spread the word. If not perhaps you might want to study up some.
Take a trip to CNN for commentary and comments. Indications are this nation is well on its way to the bottom of the slope.

Thomas Peterffy grew up in socialist Hungary. Despite the fact that he could not speak English when he immigrated to the United States in 1956, Thomas fulfilled the American dream. With hard work and dedication, he started a business that today employs thousands of people. In the 1970s, Thomas bought a seat on the American Stock Exchange. He played a key role in developing the electronic trading of securities and is the founder of Interactive Brokers, an online discount brokerage firm with offices all over the world.

I have heard variations of this gentleman's story from every single immigrant I've ever gotten to know -- even those who came from the relatively benign countries east of the old Soviet bloc.
ReplyDeleteThey'd prefer to scrub floors, wash windows, cut lawns an change diapers on incontinent senior citizens here than work as professionals in the lands of their birth.
ALL Americans ought to be sent to WORK for a year abroad - not as Peace Corps volunteers or "missionaries" but as honest-to-God WORKERS rubbing elbows, shoulders and knees with native populations 24/7.
Only THEN would they appreciate what we STILL have here -- but may not have much longer at the rate things are going.
On average HOUSING abroad is SQUALID, CRAMPED,and PRIMITIVE -- just PATHETIC by our standards.
One cannot know get to know Europe from a mere tourist's perspective. The charm soon wears off once reality sets in.

The wife and I have friends who are from the old Czechoslovakia. They came to the US and have, by virtue of their intelligence and hard work, become successful business people.
DeleteTheir story parallels that of Thomas Peterffy's, only on a much smaller scale.
They hate socialism, and they see in Obama and the democratic party that which they thought they had left behind when they left their former country.
Free Thinke,
ReplyDeleteAmong our international peers and Old World kin we live pretty good. And so do they.
Apple-atians and Oranges, my friend. You're idea of a good life is not the definition for every else.
I'm sorry you didn't get along with Europeans, I found them mostly like everyone else I've ever met. Mostly nice folks.
Les,
You should be more concerned with corporatization than fascism. The former has the power to impose the later, and visa-v, granted, but you seem to be rooting for both.
We do have a serious, mature decision to make this November. I hope we vote for balance of power and not radical changes. Wrong time. Wrong election.
JMJ
I'm concerned with both jmj. But, if given a choice only between the two I would be forced to take corporatism.
DeleteFascism is an evil socialist construct, just as all forms of socialism are an evil construct. Speaking from a philosophical and ethical view.
Corporatism actually exists rather strongly among the Dems now, and has for several years. And much less so among the Republicans. Consider the numerous bailouts/handouts/gifts to corporations; most are supported by most Democrats, and most are opposed by most Republicans.
DeleteI've never seen Les rooting ever for corporatism/crony capitalism/ bailouts/etc. It makes sense: Libertarians have been rather purely against corporatism forever, while Republicans are relative newcomers to it.
And a very sad thing it is rEpublicans have signed on to corporatism. But, since it is apparent the party has signed on to fascism (quite some time ago) it is only natural they would follow with being proponents of corporatism. Now those of use who remember Goldwater and understood his message have two mevils to fight against in the rEpublican party.
Delete"...relatively benign countries east of the old Soviet bloc..."
ReplyDeleteAre you referring to the former actual USSR (Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, etc?). That is the only way I can parse your statement, geographically. Soviet rule there was far from 'benign'.
Anyway, spot-on, RN. Socialism is the most regressive movement in modern history, perhaps human history. It rolls back centuries of reforms that establish human rights. It is a return to the system like they had in Ancient Egypt, with the divine right of kings, only using modern pseudo-science as a justification for giving the rulers supreme power instead of using religion.
Socialism, in all its variant forms is evil, except to those who are happy and accepting of being controlled by the state, ie; the tyrants who force their belief on everyone by force.
DeleteWell said dmarks, well said.
republicans are quite the Socialists. They want to control woman's health. What can be more controlling than that?
ReplyDeleteUsing a very broad brush while citing a singular example. Having said this, yeah, you have a valid point of observation. And dems wish to control healthcare and determine outcomes by enacting universal healthcare, also a socialist mentality.
DeleteBoth are incorrect and unethical in my never humble view.
