Obama Senior Adviser Valerie Jarrett: It's the Governments Job to Provide People With a Livelihood

Liberty -vs- Tyranny

Those of us who have read the constitution realize nowhere does it say the government's job is to provide a livelihood for people so they can support their families. It was not the intention of the founders OR the people that government insure them a livelihood.

Government is to protect the property rights of the individual, provide for the common defense of the nation, and maintain a justice system that enforces criminal and civil law. Congress is charged with transacting all other business as the people whom they represent direct.

The government produces nothing, nada. Therefore, government must get its "revenue" by taking (at the point of a gun held to ones head) from the people so it can then distribute it according to congressional dictate. As Leviathan grows ever more gargantuan it must steal even more from the people who do produce so it can then redistribute to those deemed less fortunate. I guess this is what the progressives call the fairness doctrine, or some other such nonsense.

I'm sure the person(s) following the above thread to its logical conclusion recognize the irrationality as well as the fallacy of Ms. Jarrett's remark.

Ms. Jarrett is a senior adviser to President Obama. He has surrounded himself with others that are of the same intellect. Therefore one can only conclude Mr. Obama is of the same mindset as those who advise him.

Much work remains to be done between now and November of 2012 if we are to "keep the republic."

    Well said!

I love moments like this when they tell the truth. I am no conspiracy person, I simply believe that this is what they believe and it explains why they constantly and futilely attempt to use government in way in which it was never designed.

Government is not designed to be a job creator, a teacher, a dispenser of health care and food and housing and welfare.

If progressives want to dispense such things, they should quit government and form a charity. Ah, but that's no fun because they cannot coerce others in the process.

  2. "The government produces nothing, nada."

What a stupid thing to say! LOL!

The roads, education, heathcare, r&d of countless types, national security, the safety of the food, water and air, and on and on and on. These are all things the gov't PRODUCES.

The private sector is simply not creating enough jobs to promote the general welfare at this time. The gov't has a constitutional responsibility to promote the general welfare. The private sector does not. We know the big banks and big industry is withholding from investing trillions right now because they want to destroy the Obama presidency for their own selfish desires. To hell with them. Raise their personal taxes and use the money to put people to work PRODUCING the roads, bridges, power and information grid, schools, hospitals and all thing other thing we need that only the gov't can PRODUCE.

  3. >These are all things the gov't PRODUCES.

Only in the same way that I PRODUCE something if I steal money from my neighbor then use it to pay somebody to build me a pool. If you insist on such a bizarre definition of "produce," then I guess I'll have to leave you to your silliness.

  4. RN, you've obviously never heard of the Commerce clause and the General Welfare clause in the Constitution. Everyone knows they authorize the federal government to do anything necessary to ensure everyone's general welfare.

Sorry, I was channeling a progressive for a minute there. Nice post.

By your statement you have exposed, no confirmed the dream of all statist minded progressive collectivists.

Which is for "Big Brother,Big Sister" Leviathan to take control of the individuals life in every conceivable manner possible.

Your dream is for the government to nationalize industry and business, take the mom and pop enterprises, hell everything. Then Leviathan can control prices, wages, food supply, everything.

Of course in your utopian society, where the government controls all, society will be fairer and more just.

Its been tried before on a large scale and its failed everywhere it as been tried.

So, my fine fuzzy feathered friend... Go fly away!!

  6. I'll admit it up front. I'm not near as anti-government/the welfare state as some of you gentlemen are. But I actually DO have a suggestion that you may ultimately embrace. As part of an overall anti-poverty initiative, you have counselors go into each and every high school in America/talk to each and every kid in America and you tell them, "Look, kid, if you really want to bring a kid into this world, fine, do it. But it is ultimately YOUR responsibility to provide for that child, not mine, not the other guy's, and certainly not the government's. Yes, we will help you in the case of an emergency. But the help will be of a transient nature and it will be your responsibility to get back on your feet. Now, let me ask you here, is there anything about this that you don't understand?"

  7. Will, let's save money and just run Public Service Announcements during Jersey Shore. That should reach all the kiddos.

  8. That's a good point, HR, the ratings for that disgusting show being as robust as they are.

  9. @Will,

I fear your brilliant words would only be met with the blank stares of a clueless generation of mama's boys and preening little girls.

  11. jmj said; "The private sector is simply not creating enough jobs to promote the general welfare at this time. "

This is entirely the government's fault. Overtaxation, forced unionization, and overrgulation force companies to fire people or offshore jobs.

Just look at the federal government's war against Gibson Guitars.

IF we passed a national "right to work" law, we'd quickly be gaining hundreds of thousands of jobs per month. Of course, Democrats, who are strongly against workers rights (compared to Republicans) strongly oppose this idea.

"The gov't has a constitutional responsibility to promote the general welfare. The private sector does not."

The private sector does a much better job of it than the government. So perhaps the best way for the government to meet this obligation is to get out of the way of the private sector.

"We know the big banks and big industry is withholding from investing trillions right now because they want to destroy the Obama presidency for their own selfish desires."

Actually, this is because the Obama administration is strongly discouraging them from investing the money. And as the administration is preparing more greedy destructive taxes, it will force these companies to move the money overseas.

To claim that they are withholding this money for political reasons is a flat out lie. After all, half of them are Democrats.

"To hell with them. Raise their personal taxes"

Yes, this summarizes your attitude. To hell with the people. Steal more of their money!

  12. Also, on another example concerning JMJ saying: ""The private sector is simply not creating enough jobs to promote the general welfare at this time.

Boeing tried hard to open a new factory in South Carolina, to provide thousands of new jobs. The Obama administration actively sought to prevent this from opening.

  13. I want my government to buy me a house, pay for my utilities, give me money to not work, punish the wealthy for being wealthy, elevate homosexuals and minorities to the point of total dependency, brand all black Americans as "Democrats" straight from the womb, destroy big business and their evil CEO's, pay for my college tuition, make sure my dog doesn't have fleas, mow my lawn, apologize to the world for being such a mean nation, subsidize my future, and allow me to be a whining, worthless American.

I want it all. And you should pay for it, not me.

    (sarcasm off)

    ReplyDelete
  14. Speaking of minorities, it is interesting now to remember how under Reagan, the black middle class grew greatly and became sizable (it just was not before). And under Obama, black poverty has soared.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Gee, Dmarks, if you want to make inferences how about the more we lower taxes and give tax incentives the greater poverty grows in the USA?

    ReplyDelete
  16. TAO - The fact stated by dmark {inference in your lexicon}I believe is that under Reagan the the black middle class actually grew. As opposed to under Obama {the victim mentality president} black poverty has soared.

Given this what exactly is the premise in your comment?

Other than the typical progressive mantra of, the more power you give government the fairer life will be and the more "eaqual" we all wil be.

Forgive me TAO the great businessman but do I detect a bit of anger because you failed to make the hurdle for governments privileged hand our status?

    Now go... Fly away...
