Obama's Approval Rating On Economy Drops 11%... To A New Low Of 26%

Bad news for the President just keeps coming. It seems the more he does the worse it gets for the Chief Executive Officer.
GALLUP - A new low of 26% of Americans approve of President Barack Obama’s handling of the economy, down 11 percentage points since Gallup last measured it in mid-May and well below his previous low of 35% in November 2010.

Obama earns similarly low approval for his handling of the federal budget deficit (24%) and creating jobs (29%).

What puzzles me is why anybody believes the President or the government is, or should be, in the business of creating jobs. Other than the bureaucratic ones requird to run Leviathan.

In a capitalist system it is the job of the producers {businesses} to produce the products and services demanded by consumers. It is the job of government to create an environment in which competitive businesses can prosper.

Having said the above... Given current numbers it is looking more and more like the President will be relocating in January 2012.

  1. Even when his particulars are low, his overall popularity remains pretty solid.

I think less informed people always tend to blame the the - any - President for a bad economy. Even if they like him for other reasons, or in a general way.

More informed people, and that includes most voters, understand President Obama has had a very tough time with congress all the way through, even when the Dems had essentially a one-party state.

The Democrats are a far broader party than the GOP, with a far greater range of opinions and constituencies. The GOP only really has a few. A Democratic President always has a harder time with their own party than a GOP President has with their's.

So, Obama has not been unable to do many things that many informed people want done.

But he was able to sign some very good legislation early on, dealing with student loans, consumer credit, taxes, handling the recession via the states, etc. Some pretty good and important stuff for real day-to-day life in America. Very smart too. Why you guys bash it, I'll never know. I tend to think you just don't understand it because it might not effect you personally.

On the other hand, the healthcare bill was inadequate and unrealistic, the debt ceiling became a destructive debacle (he should have demanded - and gotten - a clean bill), and now it's too late to sign any good bills.

The new GOP majority in the House is like a bunch of angry, white, southern, frat-kids from the 60's. These idiots are fighting about things that general society moved on from, 40 friggin' years ago.

Meanwhile, we need serious, grown-up remedies for our very complex economic ills, and these steaming morons want easy, simple, knee-jerk, anti-whatever snake-oil.

Oh, and in every way congress is STILL less popular then the President. I guess ya' can't fool all of the people all of the time.

  2. JMJ - Of course a poll is just a poll. And as such can be interpreted anyway one so chooses.

Your poorly veiled insinuations that "informed" people are those who hold the "broad based views" of the democratic party shall be your progressive undoing.

You my uber progressive nemesis are by far more biased and unyielding in your opinions than any rationally objective conservative or libertarian.

But what the heck... Each to their own.

    As Rome burns.

  3. No, Les, I consider you impressively informed. Very, very informed. I'm talking about polls there. Only so many people are really informed about current politics at any given moment, and polls are always skewed to the anecdotal that way.

Now, if you ever want to talk about Rome, (just a thought), bring it on. I will show how Objectivism could be compared to the economic structures of the late western empire and fall of the Byzantines.

    Easily.

    Know your history.

Go ahead and compare America to Rome. I'd eat it up.

  4. If by reference you are saying America is taking the path that Rome did... I have said, and often as a student of history that in fact we are.

Objectivism has absolutely zip to do with th fall of Rome.

Before you look foolish I suggest you spend time studying both.

they are not doing their job, so the government must, or we will be in this economic funk for decades
what is businesses excuse for not getting the economy going?
