Air Force Stops Ethics Training... Christian Bible Passages Responsible

Liberty -vs- Tyranny

This site promotes no religious dogma or beliefs. It does note however that our nation and culture has always been predominately Christian. The Constitution insures the freedom of religion, not the freedom from religion. Further the reference to "separation of church and state" is not to be found in the constitution. Rather it is from a letter written by Thomas Jefferson to the The Danbury Baptist Association in 1801, which can be found here and here.

It took attorneys and Supreme Court Justices to find a way to incorporate Jefferson's "thus building a wall of separation between church and State" into what we have today. I fully agree that government has no authority with respect to religion. Interpreted ;properly this should mean the only role government should play is in assuring the right of ALL religious belief to PEACEFULLY practice their faith.

The following should be a bit disturbing, even to those of little or no faith I would think. From Weasel Zippers:

(Fox News Radio) — The Air Force has suspended a course that was taught by chaplains for more than 20 years because the material included Bible passages.

The course, called “Christian Just War Theory” was taught by chaplains at Vandenberg Air Force Base and used scripture from both the Old and New Testaments to show missile launch officers that it can be moral to go to war.

But the Military Religious Freedom Foundation said the course violated the Constitutional Separation of Church and State. The organization was created to “directly battle the far-right militant radical evangelical fundamentalists” in the military.

The MRFF filed a complaint last Wednesday on behalf of 31 missile launch officers — both instructors and students.

David Smith, the spokesman for the Air Force’s Air Education and Training Command, said the main purpose of the class was to help missile launch officers understand that “what they are embarking on is very difficult and you have to have a certain amount of ethics about what you are doing to do that job.”

He said the class was suspended the same day the complaint was filed. The class is currently under review by Air Force officials who will determine whether or not to revise the material or end the class.

Les, you know I am one of those born-again Christians and I know you are an atheist. To my knowledge, this has not been an issue between us, and rightly so. Having said that...

I am not surprised or shocked that this has happened. Even after 20 years of it being in place, the secularists who despise God will find a way to piss and whine and make sure they are obeyed.

Yet, I find it particularly hypocritical of these leftist God-haters to despise all things God, and not piss and complain about the President saying, "God bless America" at the end of his speeches to the nation. Is that in itself not a clear violation of all their 'separation of church and state' rantings? I mean, he is the President, the highest political office in the land, the biggest representative of the State. So for him to even think he can bring God into his speeches to all Americans seems like a bigger threat to the atheists than a course taught by *gasp!* chaplains using *gasp!* The Bible as a reference.

Hypocrites, the whole lot of them.

Thanks for listening as a reasonable and rational man. :)

  2. What do you do if the guy launching the missle is a Jew? A Muslim? Or some other religion? Should they also not be taught the ethics of a "just war theory?"

Or is it only Christians that have issues with pushing the button?

Why does it have to be a class? If someone has a moral or ethical dilemma with war then could they not seek out their spiritual advisor for counseling as an individual?

Here's the story from an actual news site.

The military has been through several scandals recently involving coersive evangelism, and creepy Dr. Strangelove-esque instruction.

Yes, Freedom of Religion ALSO means Freedom from Religion - expecially IN the government.

I can't imagine your specious reasoning on that one, Les.

More importantly, IT'S FRIGHTENING. We don't want carzy end-timers flying around with Nuclear Friggin' Missiles!!!!!

    Get real here.

Sorry, we aren't buying the "it's not news if it isn't leftist" meme. Fox News Channel and Fox News Radio are successful because of their high quality news programming.

Actually, it does not at all. If you don't like someone else's religion, ignore it. You have no "right" to censor it from society. That violates the Constitution.

  9. Actually i must stand corrected. JMJ, rest his soul, was right. Given what we see today in the USA and what Israel Zionists are doing in Gaza, essentially with our full suport, it is clear 12 years after i penned this article that we are in grave danger of losing our secular republic.
