The Next Egregious, Absurd move to 'counter' the Tea Party Movement: the Orwellian 'One Nation'

by the Left Coast Rebel

I just caught this WaPo piece over at Memeorandum, another attempt to 'counter' the skyrocketing, runaway success of the Tea Party movement to save America from socialism, despotism, cronyism, nannyism and bankruptcy:

In an effort to replicate the tea party's success, 170 liberal and civil rights groups are forming a coalition that they hope will match the movement's political energy and influence. They promise to "counter the tea party narrative" and help the progressive movement find its voice again after 18 months of floundering.
Ok so wait a minute here, will yah? Let's back up just a bit, ok? Who was elected to the office of the Presidency of the Unites States on January 20, 2009? Why is it then that the progressive-collectivists across the United States feel the need to 'find it's voice after 18 months of 'floundering' for 18 months?'

Didn't you get everything you wanted wrapped in a toothy grin, useless bromides and platitudes, broad swaths of industry-socialist takeovers, redistribution, and neo-Marxism in Democrat-party-cabal form?

Just asking.

More on 'One Nation':

The large-scale attempt at liberal unity, dubbed "One Nation," will try to revive themes that energized the progressive grassroots two years ago. In a repurposing of Barack Obama's old campaign slogan, organizers are demanding "all the change" they voted for -- a poke at the White House.
This is an easy one and I don't have to go beyond this on this one. "One Nation" will never happen, it will never succeed, it will never match even a smidgeon of the Tea Party energy, numbers, and effect.

Why?

Because it is based on a disjointed socialistic progressive/collectivist mantra that most Americans disagree with. And even beyond that (and more importantly), the Tea Party movement is a grassroots based gathering of like minded that fear American prosperity being lost for future generations.

Redistributionist-collectivist ideals will never match that kind of fervor, not at least in this Constitutional Republic and not in my lifetime.

I'm reminded of a very simple Tea Party axiom:

  1. Tim - America is basically a centrist to slightly conservative nation. And they understand the basic concepts of self reliance and economics.

I had a discussion with my "classical liberal" brother today (and believe me if he were a blogger he would bury Chairman TAO)over ObamaCare and Corporate America which I found interesting. Here is a snippet of our conversation:

ObamaCare : A progressive collectivists was ranting over how anyone who did not support ObamaCare just stupid, ignorant, or both. This educated individual went on about the basic stupidity of anyone who didn't "get" that ObamaCare was great for America.

My brothers reply: You have just insulted the intelligence of every middle class and lower class working family. It it any wonder why they despise your progressive agenda? Further these people have looked at the reality that they will derive no direct benefit from ObamaCare and believe they will likely be worse off as a result of it.

Corporate America: My brother tells his progressive friends that Corporate America is behaving as they are expected to (he was a six figure part of Corporate America for years)and are merely doing their jobs. If you do not like Corporate America then put your money where you mouth is and cease to patronize them through your purchases of goods or products.

The interesting thing is my brother actually walks the talk today. I wonder how many progressive collectivists actually do the same. My money is on MOST OF THEM DON'T.

  2. These are great points Les and you should use them as material for a post, I would love to see that. Perhaps your brother's political identity doesn't even close to matching up to the radical progressive-collectivist left of today.

It's almost like calling us conservatives when 'neocons' were ruling the roost. Neocons are more authoritarian than conservative as you know and the true term for you and I would be 'true conservative' or 'libertarian conservative.'

  3. Agreed Tim. I do see myself as a "true conservative" in the vein of Barry Goldwater and William F. Buckley.

I have strong libertarian leanings, however I have some basic philosophical disagreements with hard core Libertarianism which is the reason the party has failed to gain national strength.

    Just my opinion.

  4. I recommend you go see this at Proof:

Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Bumbler

which is the same thought I had when I heard the "one nation."

You are right, LCR, that this will fail because only about 20% of Americans are dedicated progressives.

The Tea party stands for freedom to order your own life.

Progressivism offers a centrally-planned agenda that one must sign on to.

You also correctly observe that liberalism is an oddball hodgepodge of various and often contradictory interest groups. It is not coherent.
