Giving Trump Kudos When Kudos Are Due... Will He Stand By His Prediction?

I never thought I would be giving the orange haired individual now sitting the White House credit for rational thought and sensible decisions, but, I recently find myself re-thinking those thoughts. Of course that is predicated on the assumption that he actually means what he said regarding possible support for a legislative proposal to leave the decision to states about whether to legalize marijuana.

When asked about a legislative bill introduced by Senator Cory Gardner, Republican of Colorado, and Senator Elizabeth Warren, Democrat of Massachusetts his response was... “We’re looking at it. But I probably will end up supporting that, yes,”

The bill would leave the decision to states about whether to legalize marijuana, Something that any actual conservative/libertarian should support with enthusiasm and  all liberal/progressive ought to be solidly behind this.

As Trump is as unpredictable as the winds it is not certain that he will ultimately support and sign the legislation if it passes congress. We can only hope that he does. Bottom line, whether conservative/libertarian or liberal/progressive it is the right thing for Trump to do. Everyone with an understanding of the science that supports the benefits of marijuana ought to be giving the President Kudos on his apparent support for legislation that would essentially upend an archaic and foolish punitive federal law.

Marijuana does not belong on the federal controlled substance list. In fact it was not until 1970 that marijuana was federally banned for any purpose, including for medical purposes. The decision to outlaw marijuana use was a purely a political one without concern for science or the very real benefits associated with marijuana. And now, the other reason for the criminalization of cannabis.

  1. When it comes to pot, I believe that the federal government should remove it from the controlled drug list and treat it like they do alcohol and tobacco. Let the states decide individually how they want to deal with it.

    1. High fives for one rational and sensible move does not change his record. BUT, refusing to acknowledge the few logical decisions he might make makes us no better than those we oppose. IMNHO.

    2. It doesn't change his record on the issues OR his behavior, character (or lack there of) for sure.

One other instances I think he did something really proper was his phone call with the leader of the sovereign nation of Taiwan, early in his regime. (It was unusually diplomatic... a rarity for Trump! And it was not China's business, as China is a separate nation and Taiwan does not threaten Taiwan in any way).

    3. Indeed. And you're right, Taiwan does not threaten Mainland China in any way.

In less than two years isis is gone, no longer part of the globalist TPP scam, economy booming, jobs coming back to America, the 70 year armistice is over, and NK has given up their nuclear aspirations.

    IN LESS THAN TWO YEARS.

Now, lets all have a nice hardy disrespectful laugh at the left and their feeble fucking weak attempts at spinning this

  5. Razor... you must be deluded, or incapable of logical comprehension. Trump simply signed a deal that listed goals. That’s all. And then he caught our South Korean allies off guard by discontinuing a decades long agreement for joint war games.

But the topper might have been Trumps words that Kim “loves his people.” That’s like saying Hitler loved the Jews. Kim and his family are responsible for starving hundreds of thousands of the ppl he loves.

We don’t need to spin, we’ve got facts.

But I still love politics, even if Trump drives me nuts. We may still see one day that his policies turn out well, but as a man, he's disgusting. It's a shame a majority of the church loves him

  7. Les... I think conservatives and the extreme righwing radicals think libs like me are/were against Pres Trump talking to Kim.

Au contraire... guys like me are all for it. In fact, when President Obama called for talking to dictators around the world, think Castro, Chavez and Ahmadinejad, in an effort to get concessions and peace from them, he was widely mocked and ridiculed by the same people cheering on Pres Trump today. We should never negotiate with dictators since we will never be able to trust their words.

I get that people will be political whores, I just wish they'd admit it and own their partisanship.

If Trump can get a peace accord, NK to drop their nukes and maybe even get the Pueblo back, this liberal will be singing his praises.

    1. I agree Dave. But I must say, given the history of both Kim Jong Un AND Trump, I trust neither of them.

My attitude is this, a good and proper 1'st step, one long overdue. Now I'll wait to see the concrete verifiable proof of progress when and if it happens.

      Call me a hopeful skeptic.

  8. Even is Trump is serious about backing marijuana legalization, who knows whether he'll follow through or even think about it again. It's unlikely that it would get through Congress without a lot of Democratic votes, and a lot of the base would freak out. Jeff Sessions is a crazed drug-war neanderthal and likely to talk Trump out of moving forward. My best guess is we'll never hear about this again.

Still, I fault the Democratic party for timidity. They should have gotten out front and center on this issue a long time ago. The public supports it, but the party has not been bold enough to embrace it, so progress has mostly been made via ballot initiatives. They've allowed Trump to outflank them and maybe peel off some of the youth vote.

As for the Korea summit, the only thing of substance in the joint statement is a single sentence "reaffirming" the denuclearization promise Kim already made at the real summit, the one on April 27 between North and South Korea, in which Trump and the US played no role. Trump did nothing but barge in and mug for the cameras while everything substantive is being done by the Koreans themselves.

    1. Good observations Infidel. I think the most significant thing about this meeting may be that Kim Jong Un landed a face to face neeting with the President of the United States, something that elevates Kim Jong Un on the international stage. It was something he clearly desired.

    2. "Trump did nothing but barge in and mug for the cameras while everything substantive is being done by the Koreans themselves."

While creating juicy "pal around with dictators" footage which Trump's political opponents will make hay with. And not without cause, as so far it looks like Trump has given Kim a pat on the back for Kim's atrocious dictatorial policies.

Trump said MANY. Times that this may not work , but there is no harm in trying. He gave them NOTHING! He didn’t stop the sanctions.
Obama was HANDED the Noble Peace Prize! Trump is earning it.

  10. Jack... you must be short on comprehension... us libs have always been for dialogue with our enemies. It’s conservstives like John Bolton, Sean Hannity and Sarah Palin that said we should never sacrifice our values and sit down with dictators without preconditions. They said it would hurt the US internationally.

That was the conservative case against this... until Trump became Pres.

Us libs have always been up for these types of summits, but only if we could get some sort of agreement that meant something, or some concessions. Trump got an agreement that simply states NoKo will work towards honoring the agreement they signed with SoKo in April.

And we gave up joint military exercises with SoKo for that.

You tell me... who got the better deal?

    ReplyDelete
  11. And, NoKo media is saying that the agreement states the obligation for denuclearization rest with both sides. Hm, wonder what that means, what the implications are.

Infidel got it right. The real work done was that between Moon and Jong Un.

Like I said, I hope this summit improves relations and makes the world a safer place. In other words, a success. But, I remain the hopeful skeptic.

  13. Jack... take your meds and a deep breath.

Once again. Libs have no problem meeting with dictators to potentially better the US. Ivana suggested it. The criticisms I’m citing are all from conservatives.

What changed for them? Do they have consistent principles, or are they only politically based?

Now... we got nothing out of the summit. Nothing. Can you cite 1 new thing the US got?

Cause here’s what NoKo got... prestige, power, an agreement to end joint SoKo/US military games and an invitation to the White House.

Can you name and dictator who came to the WH during the Bush or Obana admins?

BTW, I want Trump to succeed in this as it would be good for not only America but the world.

  19. I think deep down inside, "Rocketman" knew he'd be wiped out if he didn't strike some kind of deal. I hope Kim Jong Un seriously changes for the good of North Korea. It would be great to see North & South Korea reunited into 1 nation.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Perhaps you're right about the striking a deal with tRump. But then again...

As for reunification, absolutely, if NoKo becomes democratic, acknoleges their human right atrocities, and acts responsibly on the world stage.

Will the above happen? Unlikely IMO. But, I could be wrong.
