Dr. Laura is Giving Up Radio

Talk show host Dr. Laura Schlesinger has announced her decision not to continue in radio when her current contract expires. After thirty years in radio the outspoken host has decided to give it up after her N word remarks last week caused somewhat of a firestorm. Her appearance on the Larry King Live Show August 18th in which she expressed regret and again apologized for here remarks was indeed unfortunate.

Response to her remarks from the left last week was almost immediate and had many salivating over the opportunity to attack the conservative talker. Perhaps Dr. Laura's remarks a bit over the top. However, considering them in the context in which she used the N word to make a point to a caller the response by the left was grossly overdone. Dr. Laura ought to have stood her ground and met the attack on her character head on. .

My take is that Dr. Laura mistakenly took her brazen and oft-rude sensibility into a 'oh-my-God, you can't say that'(even though liberals can), politically correct faux pas by uttering the 'n' word (in the context of it's uncalled-out use in pop culture).

She committed the unspeakable by pointing out the fact that liberals and black people use the 'n' word and are never called out on it.

Was it a stupid thing for her to say? Sure, but then again she doesn't mince words. It also wasn't nice to mention the mixed marriage issue to the caller either but that's her shtick. Also, the AP noted 1 hour ago that she apologized :

Schlessinger said on her website Wednesday that she was wrong in using the word for what she called an attempt to make a philosophical point.

Did the segment of Dr. Laura's show expose her RAAAAACIST, white-hooded, secret-society membership as the Daily Kos would lead you to believe?

We have to be able to discuss these things. We're people -- goodness gracious me. Ah -- hypersensitivity, OK, which is being bred by black activists. I really thought that once we had a black president, the attempt to demonize whites hating blacks would stop, but it seems to have grown, and I don't get it. Yes, I do. It's all about power. I do get it. It's all about power and that's sad because what should be in power is not power or righteousness to do good -- that should be the greatest power.

Ah, yes! Now I understand why the vile left is so angry!

Via. Memeorandum, the leftist-collectivist press is singing hosannas tonight as news hits the wires that Dr. Laura Schlessinger has essentially turned in her papers. Go here for full context of the 'n-word' incident that is pertinent to this subject.

Leftist 'journalist' ANAHAD O'CONNOR at the NYT 'reports':

Dr. Schlessinger made the announcement on Tuesday night on “Larry King Live,” saying she made a decision not to renew her contract when it expires at the end of the year and suggesting that she did not want her opinions and language, however provocative, to be muzzled.

Dr. Laura had this to say:

“I want to regain my First Amendment rights,” she said. “I want to be able to say what’s on my mind and in my heart and what I think is helpful and useful without somebody getting angry, some special interest group deciding this is the time to silence a voice of dissent and attack affiliates, attack sponsors. I’m sort of done with that.”

And Eric Burns, the presidnet of the vile, Soros funded communist media group Media Matters chimes in:

“Dr. Laura’s radio career ended in disgrace tonight because of the bigoted, ugly and hateful remarks made on her show. Americans have had enough,” the group’s president, Eric Burns, said in the statement. “Listeners are now holding hosts, affiliates, and sponsors accountable for the offensive and inexcusable content on the airwaves.”

My thoughts on this are simple. She shouldn't have retired at this juncture and set a precedent like this.

Also, on the other hand I don't blame her for growing weary of the communist attack machine that inhabits all corners of American media.

Will this be the last we have heard from Dr. Laura? I hardly think so but she still should have stood up to these miscreants.

Indeed it is sad when an individual of D R.  Laura's caliber and class are pounded as she was by the government media complex progressive press. Tim is absolutely right on the mark with his commentary on the matter.

After listening to her N word comment over and over again I have become more amazed at the thinness of the progressive skin. And I become more convinced every day that the progressive collectivist war on freedom of speech, and yes even thought, is becoming more virulent and dangerous.

As Tim pointed out in his posts political correct speech became prevalent during the Reagan years and was pushed by the usual leftists that desire to limit opposing views from their own. It is worse today, and those of us who stand ready to raise our voice will no doubt be badgered and maligned by the progressive forces of the  collectivist lest.

To this likelihood I say... Bring it on. And Dr. Laura, you should not have quit. The bast*rds that forced your decision are not even half the person you are.
