Tom McClintock: The Prosperity Congress

Image
by the Left Coast Rebel After you are mind-numbed by the daily assault on our liberty -- especially in the state California -- a voice for the way things should be goes unnoticed. Sometimes a politician that is actually good, a patriot and one that is looking out for the best interests of this nation and it's people gets lost in the fog of Mordor on the Potomac. Simply said, when we come across a politician that is a true patriot and limited government advocate, we need to stand up and applaud such an individual. California representative Tom McClintock is one such person. Congressman Tom McClintock is one of a few rare breed in the GOP that never saw capitulation to Democrat statism as acceptable for the Republican party. The guy even voted against "popular" legislation like the Cash for Clunkers program and has stood by the Goldwater/Reagan vision even as the credo waxed and waned in the past. In fact - if you didn't know it - McClintock provided the inspiration for...

The Real Deal on ObamaCare Repeal Efforts

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Birthplace of Independent Conservatism One should watch with great interest the current House of Representatives effort to to repeal ObamaCare. It was a bad bill that essentially was barely, if at all, understood by the representatives and senators that passed it. Nonetheless it passed on the force of a dictatorial Speaker and Senate Majority leader marching in lockstep with Obama and a very liberal democratic party. The attempt to repeal ObamaCare will succeed in the House. It will however fail in the Senate. Even if it did pass the Senate Obama would wield the veto pen. Since the votes to override a Presidential veto does not exit the repeal effort dies. ObamaCare simply will not be repealed with a sitting democratic President and a democratic Senate majority. All however is not lost. The real importance of the House's rightful repeal effort will be to frame the debate for the 2012 Presidential and Congressional elections. As the majo...

I Shall Be Brief... But Sincere

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Birthplace of Independent Conservatism Been doing a lot of thinking lately. What I've come up with is this. Independent conservatives and independent liberals have a tough road. Holding to principles is usually a tough task. The road is tough because they refuse to knuckle to the "conventional wisdom" that the majority of their "supposed ideology" would have them accept and espouse. What drove this home was the decision of TAO, who operated the blog Corrupting Conservatives, a liberal yet rational site to shut down his blog. I for one will miss his rough and tumble. The integrity he showed in standing up to liberals that were in his judgement misguided gained my respect. I equally respected his intellectually honesty in arguing his positions, even when he was wrong. Should anyone fail to understand this statement, well that it is not my problem. At any rate, as an independent conservative that actually sees the and u...

Thank You Howard Dean... Now Shut Up Please!

Image
by: L es Carpenter Rational Nation USA Birthplace of Independent Conservatism Thank you Howard Dean. You not only marginalize the 55 year old and older group, of which I am a proud member, you also, in your pompous and elitist mentality marginalize anyone that has valid reasons to disagree with you. A true liberal progressive idiot. Additionally, you fail {by design} to take into consideration the 30 something group that make up a significant part of the Tea Party movement. Oh, I almost forgot, to you, and those like you, the only important thing is to repeat the same BS {lie} in hopes that if repeated often enough the nation will believe you. I, as well as most Americans ain't bying your crap. Here is what the hot headed icon of the irrational left had to say in part with respect to the Tea Party. “I think it’s the last gasp of the 55-year-old generation,” said Dean, who was also chairman of the Democratic National Committee from 2005-2009. “Older folks have seen their ...

The Politics of Envy and State-mandated Generosity

By: Bastiatarian Andy Rutledge posted an article yesterday, that I wish I had written, because he is spot on. Here's a short excerpt. Liberal lawmakers do not care how responsible or caring you are. Your generosity must die on the altar of an irrational and forced "equality." Liberalism mandates that in addition to the necessary taxation for Constitutional government needs, everyone is required to pay a further percentage of his or her hard-earned income to The State so that it can decide how best to distribute these funds. We don’t get a choice in the matter. And the results are nothing short of a tragedy. In the liberal worldview, success among some people is not really success, but tyranny. According to liberalism, success is tyranny because there remain people who have not achieved equal success. It is bad enough that some are so ridiculously obtuse as to hold with this outrageous idea, but worse because they have power and they insist on imposing t...

Timeless Wisdom and Values

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Birthplace of Independent Conservatism Perhaps one of the best and most accurate reasons for maintaining a strong DEFENSE capable of reacting swiftly to a threat from beyond our borders. "Let us recollect that peace or war will not always be left to our option; that however moderate or unambitious we may be, we cannot count upon the moderation, or hope to extinguish the ambition of others." --Alexander Hamilton, Federalist No. 34, 1788 Sadly it seems our leaders at some point began to understand national defense differently than Hamilton and the rest of our founders understood it. I suppose there is some truth to the liberals argument that our nation at some point, like many others in history, started to view a worldwide military presence and economic domination as desirable. The concept that war is justifiable only in response to an act of aggression against our nation and people seems to have faded into the background. Be...

Boehner To Move Quickly on Attempting Repeal of ObamaCare

Image
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Birthplace of Independent Conservatism Speaker of the House John Boehner in his response the Senator Majority Leader Harry Reid and four other Senate Democrats made it clear the Republican House will move quickly to repeal ObamaCare. Boehner's office wrote : Senators Reid, Durbin, Schumer, Murray and Stabenow: Thank you for reminding us – and the American people – of the backroom deal that you struck behind closed doors with ‘Big Pharma,’ resulting in bigger profits for the drug companies, and higher prescription drug costs for 33 million seniors enrolled in Medicare Part D, at a cost to the taxpayers of $42.6 billion. The House is going to pass legislation to repeal that now. You’re welcome. - Speaker-Designate John Boehner’s Press Office Read the rest at The Hill . Now that the New Speaker is making it clear Republicans are going to act responsibly as promised on this front the question remains. Will they pursue further cu...

Same Sex Unions and the RNC

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Birthplace of Independent Conservatism The old guard GOP continues to show why they are a dying breed and will ultimately be extinct within the party. What this old independent conservative is really waiting for is Sarah Palin to make her position clear on gay rights in general, and her position on the repeal of DADT specifically. The view of those vying for Chairmanship of The RNC as reported by TMP. I t seems increasingly clear that embracing some changes in the way gays and lesbians interact with society will be necessary for political viability in the future. That is, unless you're running to be the next chair of the Republican National Committee. At their debate yesterday, the major candidates running to lead the RNC through the 2012 presidential race pledged to hold the line on gay rights, expressing concern over the repeal of DADT and vowing to keep the Republican Party in the sanctity of marriage business. I understand the ...
