A Clear Case Of Too Much Time

Image
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Tis the Christmas season. For some it is a time of high religious solemnity and reflection. For others it's about Santa Claus, kids, and family gatherings. For most it is a stressful time given the hustle bustle that accompanies the holidays' And for others, notably the researchers at  Simon Fraser University in Canada, it is an opportunity to psychoanalyze the Christmas season. Apparently this esteemed group of researchers have nothing better or more pressing to concern themselves with. Rather than summarizing their extensive and no doubt important work {apparently to some anyway}I give you the full sense of its importance.  Researchers at Simon Fraser University in Canada, found non-Christians feel less self-assured and have fewer positive feelings if a Christmas tree was in the room. The scientists conducted the study using 77 Christians and 57 non-believers, including Buddh...

Internet Freedom at Risk

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Rational Nation has posted in the past on the issue of freedom in the press and the internet. I have commented on the progressives desire to control information through either the the Fairness Doctrine and or the so called Net  Neutrality . These articles can be found here and here . These concerns are reaching a new heightened level Monday with the the FCC's plans to take steps  to significantly  increase the feds reach into the internet by expanding its regulatory control. The following is an excerpt from Robert M. McDowell's op ed article in the Wall Street Journal.  As the article points out the ramifications of such intrusion into the internet should alarm us all. Tomorrow morning the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will mark the winter solstice by taking an unprecedented step to expand government's reach into the Internet by attempting to regulate its inner workings. In doing ...

On This One Kudos To Michelle Obama

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Forgive me if my sarcasm is obvious. However , don't rational people have more important things to single out and criticize the FLOTUS for than her efforts to heighten awareness over the dangers of obesity. Particularly within the young? Sure she has had an occasional ice cream, maybe her taste for the sweeter things in life are legendary. So what? At least she is attempting to to do the right thing. Not unlike the conservatives that have preached fidelity {or abstinence for their their teens}and them practiced the opposite, or whose children have failed to abstain as they preached. And I am willing to bet the FLOTUS is in a helluva ;ot better shape than say, Karl Rove or Rush Limbaugh. Okay, so lets consider the information just a moment. Admittedly the following information is from CNN, certainly not your bastion of conservative thought. Consider it as data, then do the work to verify it as reliable information. Sarah Palin, that gol...

Contemplating Atlas

Image
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA I was fascinated by this picture today as I contemplated the state of our current political discourse, our ineffectual government, our so called capitalists, and the modern pull peddlers. The image of one lone individual standing in front of what appears to be a structure having seen it's better days with the shadow of Atlas supporting the world on his shoulders held me awe struck for several moments. I shall leave it to each thinking individual to determine for themselves and to understand why this visual image holds such power. Even for  a matter of a few moments. For those who believe it takes a village to raise a child it is likely their capacity to grasp the power of the above visual will be stunted...  In all likelihood it is quite possible it  is non existent. As I sat contemplating the image my thoughts flowed to the present state of affairs in ou...

Atlas

Atlas will shrug. The only question is how soon before it happens.

A Truly Magnificent Acheivement

Image
The New York City skyline. A shining example of the capacity of mankind's {humankind for the political correct}ability to achieve monumental greatness. Representative of what can be accomplished when man applies his mind to furthering his knowledge and ability to grasp the infinite possibilities that awaits him now and in the future. However, given the deteriorating state of our nation politically, ethically, morally, and intellectually one must wonder if we can continue to sustain our place among nations must longer. The clock continues to tick forward, waiting for no one. And sooner or later... Atlas Will Shrug .
