Understanding the Constitution; Federalist #1

Image
By Kook Cross posted at Allied Liberty News The period of time after the winning the War for Independence was a rocky one for our young Nation. Even though we still call them states today, when people like Thomas Jefferson thought of his home State of Virginia, he literally thought of it as his “Country” and he meant it in every sense of the word. The United States at that time was viewed as a Union of 13 countries, much like the EU is today. The day after the Declaration of Independence was signed it was agreed to have a Continental Congress to set up a Confederate Government between the 13 “States”. This gave birth to the Articles of Confederation, which set out the plan for governing the new nation. The Articles worked satisfactorily through the war, but without an ability to tax the “States” after the war there was a large war debt owed and no one could agree on payment. This is where the problems started, and in many ways we are still struggling with the same issues. ...

Fear and Loathing for BP Should not Negate Their Rights, Too

Image
by Conservative Generation , Left Coast Rebel The left always seems to miss the forest for the trees. Case in point, today's scapegoat, British Petroleum. And it's not that I am a 'fan' of BP but it is a case of point that no matter how despised and loathed a corporation (or individual) is, we are still a nation of laws and not of men. Like it or not, liberals - your philosopher-king cannot properly shakedown even the most hated company in the world. Behold the far left which has become so single-minded and transfixed on that old Marxist dogma that “employers are evil” that infects them today with irrational fear of an impartial law. For in the minds of the absurd, they have compromised this sacred American ideal as a ransom to ascribe some Philosopher-King immeasurable authority to assert blame and judgment. They salivate at the thought of destroying BP and for what have they gained; a better America or a more powerful Philosopher-King? It’s the law that protects se...

Big Government in Action: Oil-Sucking Barges Shut Down by Coast Guard

Image
by the Left Coast Rebel I've been watching the Obama public relations disaster over the BP oil spill. I've been surprised that the leftwing seems to be as dismayed, if not even more so than conservatives do. More than anything though, I've been shocked (even for me, which is saying something) just how mind-blowingly ineffective and ridiculously incompetent big-government is. Whether that is the lackadaisical-professorial, 'BP can handle this' initial Obama response, or the inability of the Feds to coordinate between branches. To crippling environmental red-tape that is actually aiding the environmental disaster by disallowing viable solutions, to ignoring/refusing the aid of local and international businesses. And that's only just a smidgeon of the tip of the (oil) iceberg on how the Gulf oil spill disaster spells out the philosophy of big-government, disaster. Leftists - why do you have so much faith in an all-encompassing Federal government? Liberals - what do...

Andrew Napolitano And The Tea Party Summit

By: Les Carpenter III Rational Nation USA Came across this Tea Party Summit series this morning. Hosted by Andrew Napolitano it features former Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin and Texas Congressmen Ron Paul. Many issues are covered and I found the series to be interesting, even entertaining. While many will find occasion to disagree with the Governor and Congressman (I did) the series overall was worth the time. Certainly the modern progressive (collectivist) segment of our population will find this series distasteful. But then again it is most likely they won't bother to view it. This is the American Republic at work. And it is the very thing the progressive collectivist fears most. The rise of a new individualism and spirit of liberty.  The notion of finally shrinking the federal government's role in the lives of the individual simply has the left in an uproar. Progressive collectivists nationwide will continue to do all possible t...

Where Do You Stand?... The Progressive Collectivist Assault On America

Image
"The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first." "A wise and frugal government, which shall restrain men from injuring one another, which shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor and bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government." "Timid men prefer the calm of despotism to the tempestuous sea of liberty." By: Les Carpenter III Rational Nation USA In eighteen days it will be our nation's 234th birthday. As we prepare to celebrate our unique and exceptional  history, the nation is engaged in a great and profound battle for its very soul .We stand at the ultimate crossroads. The road we ultimately choose will determine whether this nation survives with our founding principals as the...

Taxes And Fiscal Policy... You Decide

While this video classifies as a sound bite the numbers are real.  The fiscal direction our country is heading under President Obama is towards more fiscal insanity.  There are many area's that need be looked at and cut beyond just those mentioned here. Neither the Obama administration nor the Congress has the b*lls to address the real problems. So forget about them actually trying to fix them. Just like the last lost administration. You be the judge.

Cato Weekly Video

This Cato video discuses free global trade, NAFTA, and the perceived benefits and drawbacks of free trade. I find the discussion interesting however it raises perhaps as many questions as it may answer. It is nevertheless interesting for those who are interested in and concerned with U.S. trade policy. "Protectionism is rising. The stakes for prosperity couldn't be higher. On C-SPAN's Washington Journal, Daniel Griswold discussed the virtues of free trade. Griswold is author of Mad About Trade and serves as director of the Cato Institute's Center for Trade Policy Studies."

Congressional Conflict Of Interest

Reason's Nick Gillespie appeared on CNBC's Power Lunch to discuss Congressional conflicts of interest and whether politicians should be allowed to invest in industries they regulate on June 16, 2010. Hmm, Gillespie make sense here. At least IMO. What's yours?
