Rand Paul - The Question on Civil Rights Act

By: Les Carpenter III Rational Nation USA Tuesday was a very good day for those of us who support Rand Paul's Libertarian philosophy of governance. His belief in a limited federal government, fiscal responsibility, a balanced budget, and greater local control reverberates in most people that understand the values this nation was founded on. The right to own and control one's own property,  and or business, is one of the hallmarks of liberty, and it is as important to freedom as the right of free speech.  Also at the core of this countries values is the belief in individual rights, and the governments responsibility to insure and preserve the rights of each individual. Rand Paul, just two days after his blowout win in Kentucky's primary finds himself in a politically precarious spot... The result of his response to a question on civil rights and his belief  the in rights of private sector business owners to serve who they please in a privately h...

EPA, Government Regulation, And You

By: Les Carpenter III Rational Nation USA A trip over to Reason TV brought the following Rough Cut video to my attention. Produced in conjunction with The Heritage Foundation it makes reasoned statements as to the unintended consequences of over government regulation.     "While Americans across the country have been tightening their belts, the EPA has launched a video contest. The Heritage Foundation's entry focuses on over-regulation's all-too-familiar failures." There are many perspectives on the subject of government regulations. It seems this one is based on reason where many are not. Via: Rough Cut Follow Up Via: Reasoned TV

A House Resolution That Makes Damn Good Sense!

Image
By: Les Carpenter III Rational Nation  USA While many, if not most in Washington D.C. were watching the primary election results yesterday the House was busy with important business... Passing a resolution in support of beer. Representative Betsy Markey of Colorado sponsored House Resolution 1297 that supports "the goals and ideals of American Craft Beer Week." Here is a resolution I am sure finding common ground and bipartisanship for was definitely not an issue! Representative Markey went on to say this... "We've got quite a number of microbreweries and entrepreneurs that are creating jobs, and we wanted to celebrate that this is a craft," Markey told POLITICO. "I think beer has been a tradition since this country was founded," said Markey. "We wanted to celebrate entrepeneurship — and good beer!"  Markey is obviously partial to brews from her home state of Colorado, but she won't claim a favorite. "You can...

Good Bye Arlen Specter... You Won't Be Missed

Image
By: Les Carpenter III Rational Nation USA The soon to be former Senator from Pennsylvania, Arlen Specter received his just deserts Tuesday.  The party switching, self absorbed and self serving pol with very few scruples was handily defeated in the Pennsylvania Democratic primary by Joe Sestak. During an interview with MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell before election results were in he had some interesting comments: What you see happening across the country is that the tea party organization has taken over. Is we're not careful, if you don't field the strongest candidate... frankly, like Arlen Specter... they're going to take over. Beating the tea party gang is more important than who does the beating. They want to go back to the gold standard, it'd be an 18th century America." Let me get this straight, a movement that supports a more limited role for the federal government, balanced budgets and fiscal sanity, elimination of unnecessar...

Newt Gingrich On American Socialism

By: Les Carpenter III Rational Nation USA While I have issues with some of former congressman Gingrich's positions, one would have to be totally out of touch to not understand the concerns he expresses in the above video. Here is an example of what the extreme left has to say on the issue: What Gingrich is doing is slyly trying to defend the CEO fat cats and his chummy Wall Street elites who screwed up the economy and their companies while they raked in millions of dollars, but he doesn't come right out and say it. Movement conservatives like Newt are very adept at talking around their far-out beliefs in a way that almost makes them seem reasonable. They know how to manage the language and play it like an instrument. His tone is muted, never going off pitch and always in control. That's their edge. Karl Rove does it as well. Gingrich, who has changed his religion almost as much as his wives then uses God to justify his odious...

Glenn Beck Liberty University Commencement Address

By: Les Carpenter III Rational Nation USA As I listen to Glenn Beck, a man I have differences with from time to time, I see a man who is sincere and truly humbled by the honor bestowed upon him this day. A man self educated beyond a single course in college who believes that information and knowledge... ALL INFORMATION AND KNOWLEDGE...  should be considered. And here is wht the liberal vermin in the media has to say ... The Lynchburg News & Advance describes the spectacle as so: Beck received an honorary degree from Liberty. He never graduated from college but spent one semester at Yale University when he was 30, he said, leaving because he could not afford the tuition. Beck, who is Mormon, delivered a speech that emphasized the power of faith in righting a country that he said has gone off track.“I look at the things that are facing you today: the worst economy in generations, the euro on the road to collapse, we’re spending our...

The Hate Filled Left

Image
After a week of liberal bashing from a prominent progressive/socialist/Leninist blogger of note who runs a relatively successful progressive/socialist/Leninist site I have NOW become a firm believer progressives present the most dangerous threat to freedom of speech and liberty there is or ever was. Why you may ask do I say this. A fair and reasonable question. The answer to this fair and reasonable question lies in the following individual's comments made on a liberal blog I visit fairly often. Following are several examples why there can be no reasonable dialogue or bi-partisanship with the far out emotional left. "Then I read the comment of Rational National and recall his relentless 'liberal-bashing' as if this kind of stereotyping is somehow different from outright bullying and abuse. It is not. It is just as inflammatory and defamatory and abusive as every other kind of bullying we are forced to endure online, and his intellect...

What Will The Boy Be?

Image
Posted By: Les Carpenter III Rational Nation USA Because of business and personal demands this week postings will be somewhat limited and less detailed in scope. As much as I wish it were otherwise the simple reality is there just isn't enough time in a day. So today I will leave you with this in hopes it brings a smile to you and lightens your day in some small way. An old country preacher......had a teenage son, and it was getting time the boy should give some thought to choosing a profession. Like many young Men his age, the boy didn't really know what he wanted to do, and he didn't seem too concerned about it. One day, while the boy was away at school, his father decided to try an experiment. He went into the boy's room and placed on his study table four objects. 1. A Bible.....? 2. A silver dollar.....? 3. A bottle of whisky.....? 4. And a Playboy magazine.....? 'I'll just hide behind the door,' the old preacher said ...
