Terrorism -vs- Property Rights... Reason as Viewed by the Progressives

Image
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA I read Jonathan Karl's ABC article entitled "  Dem Senator: Negotiating with Republicans "Almost" like Negotiating with "Terrorists " with great interest. The very idea of equating  Republican lawmakers  with "terrorists" is at best a lapse of reason and at its worst simply a lie intended to pander to the progressive ideologues that hate anything that resembles  a touch of reason. In excerpts from Mr. Karl's  remarks {as reported by CBS News} one can easily recognize, at least IMHO, that many progressives {read Democrats} are indeed out of touch with reality. Following are excerpts from his article. Did Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) just compare Republicans to terrorists? Well, not really.  But he did compare negotiating with Republicans to negotiating with terrorists. Menendez lashed out at Republicans for opposing Democratic effor...

TSA's Theme Song

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA I intentionally stayed away from writing my thoughts on the TSA's recently acquired groping rights and the invasion of privacy that full body scanners represent. A myriad of fellow conservative bloggers did a fine and thorough job covering the unwarranted statist intrusion into the lives of individual Americans.. Suffice it to say I am an avowed opponent of both measures. However, when I stumbled upon the following video while doing some research on the web I decided I simply had to break my silence, albeit belatedly. This video {and catchy tune} sums it up well. h/t Rebirth of Reason

It's Time for Action

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA It has been said it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're amidst a bunch of turkeys. For sure that sentiment holds true today with the lame duck session of Congress. The boys and girls once again cannot find the integrity and fortitude to act decisively and in the best interest of the American people. Of course there are differences between the two sides on extending the Bush era tax cuts. The Democrats want to make the cuts permanent for those making below $250,000 dollars and the Republicans want to extend the cuts across the board. Politics aside, as an individual of middle class means I support the extension of the Bush tax cuts across the board. I do so from a purely philosophical and ethical view which I shall reserve for perhaps a later discussion. The fact is, little time remains for Congress to act. The nation can ill afford a massive tax increase on the middle class during the current and severe economic downturn. Whethe...

The law perverted! And the police powers of the state perverted along with it! The law, I say, not only turned from its proper purpose but made to follow an entirely contrary purpose! The law become the weapon of every kind of greed! Instead of checking crime, the law itself guilty of the evils it is supposed to punish! -- Frederic Bastiat, The Law   New Jersey Man Serving Seven Years for Guns He Legally Owned When Mount Laurel police arrived at the Aitkens' home on Jan. 2, 2009, they called Brian - who was driving to Hoboken - and asked him to return to his parents' home because they were worried. When he arrived, the cops checked his Honda Civic and, inside the trunk, in a box stuffed into a duffel bag with clothes, they found two handguns, both locked and unloaded as New Jersey law requires. Aitken had passed an FBI background check to buy them in Colorado when he lived there, his father said, and had contacted New Jersey State Police and discussed...
