Truth be told, Rand Paul simply opposes abortion, not 'choice'.

" Women will not be pleased with this"

Depends on the poll. Women often oppose abortion in a slightly greater percentage than men do.

I am indeed curious what his stance on trade is. It comes up blank on Rand Paul on the Issues.dmarkshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07269773990064736457noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8549971354391868786.post-91605097188193207532013-03-14T23:29:06.387-04:002013-03-14T23:29:06.387-04:00If nothing else I firmly agree with your final par...If nothing else I firmly agree with your final paragraph above.Les Carpenterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01120280762698472496noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8549971354391868786.post-48920953779676794202013-03-14T20:16:34.379-04:002013-03-14T20:16:34.379-04:00Rand Paul certainly could add more youth and vital...Rand Paul certainly could add more youth and vitality to the GOP for the future. But we've seen these sorts of demos come and go in the past.

If he moves up in the spotlight, there will be slack from his radically anti-choice stand on abortion, and his belief the government should be removed from education. Women will not be pleased with this. His positions on Medicare, Social Security, and the social safety net in general would not sit well with a substantial majority of Americans.

His unique mix of views on trade and defense are a little hard for most Republicans to swallow.

I think there is a cap on the popularity of his odd mix of views, and that it couldn't coalesce with enough other people to win substantial national power any time in the near future.

He does bring big issues to the fore though, and that's pretty damn important, and I'm glad for it. It takes characters like the Paul's to get these issues out. Of all the GOP victories in 2010, Paul's was the most useful.

JMJJersey McJoneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15426560061830038806noreply@blogger.com
