America Is Resisting The Minority and Un American Rule of trump... And It's Working

Rational Nation USA
Purveyor of Truth

Patriotic Americans must keep marching, protesting (peacefully), and challenging every undemocratic, un-American, and authoritarian thing on trump's agenda. It is having the desired positive affect.

VOX - It’s easy to miss amidst Donald Trump’s frenetic pace of activity and nonstop media coverage, but the most important story in American politics right now isn’t about what Trump’s doing: It’s that the opposition is working.

The millions of people who marched in Washington and other cities around the world on inauguration weekend and then demonstrated again at airports the following weekend are making a concrete difference in the world. So are the tens of thousands who’ve called members of Congress or showed up in person at their events.

Trump is getting things done, but all presidents do that. Look at what he’s not getting done. A Republican-controlled Congress bowed to public outrage over an attempt to water down an ethics office. Trump dramatically downscaled his own executive order barring entry to the United States from seven Muslim-majority countries. He’s having unprecedented difficulty getting his Cabinet nominees confirmed even though the Senate’s rules have changed to make confirmations easier than ever. Conservatives in Congress have put their big plans to privatize Medicare and public lands on hold. And the drive to repeal the Affordable Care Act is running into very big trouble.

None of this is based on the discipline and self-restraint on the part of the White House. It’s thanks to bold acts of resistance. The result is lives have been saved, many more lives have been demonstrably improved, and the proven template for future success has been created.

Not only have the resisters already markedly altered the trajectory of public policy, they have begun to make a difference in each other’s lives and their own conceptions of themselves. And this is the greatest threat to the Trump movement.

For the moment, Trumpism holds the vast preponderance of political power despite its thin electoral base. That means Trumpism will make progress, even in the face of effective resistance. But for the positioning to hold, Trump needs to convince his opponents that they are failing, so the prophesy will become self-fulfilling.

That is why it’s crucial for Trump’s opponents to be aware that protestors’ efforts are not futile. We know they can succeed because they are already succeeding. What’s needed is for Trump’s critics to continue to resist the siren song of sectarianism and keep at it. If they do, Trumpism will be buried.

  1. Too bad we can't dismiss an unpleasant president.

  2. Donald Trump and his fire-starter Stephen Bannon discriminate against certain people by decree, but not against those from countries in which Trump does business. The contempt the president of the United States and his most important adviser have for science and education is so blatant that it's almost difficult to write. But their disdain for climate and environmental policies has to be stated, because four or eight years of it could become a serious threat.

Among the things that counted as true progress during the 20th century were multilateralism and free trade. The world has become so complex that no single country can solve the major problems on its own -- that was our recognition. Organizations like the United Nations, the World Trade Organization, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, NATO and the EU were all created for this reason. None of these organizations is perfect, but they are what we launched -- and we do need them. Bannon now wants to wipe them away, and either Trump is executing Bannon's intentions or he shares them.

That's why under President Trump, both the justified and the contemptible will be melded. Injustice is a major issue of our times, as are fears of digitalization and globalization -- and rightfully so given that the division of society and the speed of modern life is, in fact, extreme. Trump fuses these worries of his voters with nationalism and xenophobia. That's how demagogues work and it is how they become effective. The fact that the United States, a nuclear superpower that has dominated the world economically, militarily and culturally for decades, is now presenting itself as the victim, calling in all seriousness for "America first" and trying to force the rest of the world into humiliating concessions is absurd. But precisely because this nonsense is coming from the world's most powerful man, it is getting trapped by him.

Europe Must Defend Itself Against A Dangerous President - The United States president is becoming a danger to the world. It is time for Germany and Europe to prepare their political and economic defenses.

  3. My biggest concern is one of national security and the stability NATO, Europe and the free world. I view it from a clinical psych perspective.

The Cluster B Personality Disorders often have overlapping signs and symptoms; one from the other distinguishable according to dominant feature. DT is a classic narcissist; Putin is too cold and calculating to be considered a narcissist - and the real killer between them.

The troublesome part is that Putin is a former KGB chief who knows how to manipulate Trump: Appeal to his vanity. Overwhelmingly gripped by narcissism, Trump can never transcend his own character flaws. This presents a grave risk from a national security viewpoint.

    1. Forgot to add this point: This is why Putin, through Russian intelligence, tried to influence our election outcome.

    2. Manipulating Trump is babyplay. Any halfway intelligent person is able to do it. Just look at the people he has surrounded himself with.

    3. Our best hope is that he goes berserk and brings himself down. Despite appearances, the man actually has a very frail ego. This is the essence of narcissism: Covering up every flaw and blemish with every known defense mechanism to protect that seriously compromised Ego. Hence the dissembling and deceptions. In simple parlance, the big con job. When threatened, he will instinctively lash out, decompensate and fall apart. Hopefully Congress will intervene before he seriously damages our national security.

  4. trump's own party is beginning to realize it has a problem. You're right {O)CT(O)PUS, trump's insecurities are many and coupled with his narcissism makes him a very dangerous man-child. My hope is his own party begins to defy him and that domestic and world pressures, created by his own ineptitude, results in him being so ineffective he is either impeached or he resigns in disgrace. I love my country too much to see this guy and his buddy bannon destroy all that is good about it.

  5. Those with the ability to stroke trump's ego and insulate him from those who oppose him will be very successful with trump. Until they misstep. Then they'll be history. He is vindictive and heartless when he thinks he's been crossed.

  7. Make America Great Again! Follow the patriotic fearless leader's example and stop paying taxes. O-Pussy's idea reminds of the great Grenada Invasion, bravery abounded as they rounded up a couple hundred Cuban
    construction workers. Hoo-aaah.

    1. O-Pussy's comment deleted. Irrelavant, changing subject to President Obama when the subject is (t)rump doesn't fly here. Excusing (t)rump's plentiful flaws and horrific bigotry simply amplifies O-Pussy's own bigotry.
