It's Only A Poll...

Clinton's post convention bounce appears to be holding as Trumplestiltskin continues to stumble and swerve away from message. Polling results continue to show HRC with a comfortable lead and unless the GOP nominee settles down (a highly unlikely scenario) and hits his stride soon the likelihood of a Clinton blowout is a distinct possibility.

WASHINGTON - Hillary Clinton has surged to a 15-point lead over reeling, gaffe-plagued Donald Trump, according to a new McClatchy-Marist poll.

Clinton made strong gains with two constituencies crucial to a Republican victory – whites and men — while scoring important gains among fellow Democrats, the poll found.

Clinton not only went up, but Trump went down. Clinton now has a 48-33 lead, a huge turnaround from her narrow 42-39 advantage last momth.

The findings are particularly significant because the poll was taken after both political conventions ended, and as Trump engaged in a war of words with the parents of Army Capt. Humayun Khan, killed in the Iraq War 12 years ago.

“This is coming off the Democratic convention, where a bounce is expected,” said Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion in New York, which conducted the nationwide survey.

“What you don’t want is to have the worst week of your campaign” – a characterization many analysts use to describe Trump’s recent days.

Other polls have shown Clinton in the lead, though Marist’s is the largest so far.

Among poll respondents, Clinton was seen more often as a potential president. Fifty-three percent said they would find her acceptable; 39 percent felt that way about Trump.

In a four way race, Clinton retains her lead. She gets 45 percent to Trump’s 31 percent. Libertarian Gary Johnson has 10 percent and the Green Party’s Jill Stein has 6 percent.

UPDATE:

This just in. Former senior CIA agent in the GWB administration and former CIA Director in the BHO administration Michael Morell has just endorsed Hillary Rodham Clinton for the presidency of the United States.

The Washington Post - Former CIA director Michael Morell endorsed Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and blasted GOP rival Donald Trump, accusing him of becoming an unwitting agent of Russian President Vladimir Putin in an op-ed on Friday.

Morell wrote that while he is neither a registered Democrat nor a Republican and has never made his preference for president public, he chose to publicly declare his support for Clinton in this election.

"First, Mrs. Clinton is highly qualified to be commander in chief. I trust she will deliver on the most important duty of a president — keeping our nation safe," Morell wrote in the op-ed published in the New York Times. "Second, Donald J. Trump is not only unqualified for the job, but he may well pose a threat to our national security."

Morell served as deputy director of the CIA and acting director of the CIA under President Obama. He served as a senior officer at the agency during the George W. Bush administration

  1. Then it looks like you wish will come true.

  2. What wish would that be skudrunner?

My wish skudrunner would be an alternative to Trumplestiltskin, other than HRC, that could actually win the presidency. We both know that is not reality.

So, since Trumplestiltskin is so uninformed, a demagogue, and dangerous there really is only one rational alternative to him.

  3. Not convinced you are correct. You state the democratic talking points very well bet aside from arrogant there is little Proven truth about the other points. The Clinton criminal empire is going to be run by an admitted liar, slanderer (remember the rape victims she verbally went after) and highly traveled but non accomplished senator and SS. Again there is little Proven truth to back it up since he hubby and the AG decided they would have the FBI not push for indictment. BTW he did say she was careless and incompetent with government secrets, of course that doesn't make her dangerous.
Maybe shaun should interview her, that would be the equivalent of stepenjackass interviewing trump.
I am going to write in skudrunner on the ballot.

  4. skudrunner, you have a comic-bookish epistemology. Yes, idiots do fuss over the sorts of nonsense you fuss about, but Trump can not win by just idiots alone. Either he creates some sort of discernible and sane vision going forward, or serious people, people who fuss over things like SS and Medicare, education and healthcare, transportation and security, are going to feel as if they have no choice but to vote for Trump. As usual, the majority of the protest vote will not be taking place in swing states. National polls tell you nothing here. PA, FL, OH, NC, VA - these are the states where it matters, and Trump would have to get most or all of them to win. He has to convince voters in those states - old people and young educated people - that he is not a dangerous choice for change.

  5. Facts, while they can be considered talking points, are no such thing. Anyone truly interested in learning about Trumpelstiltskin and his lack of integrity can, with just a bit of effort, find the facts. Apparently you have chosen not to do so skudrunner.

As for Hillary Rodham Clinton (and her former president husband), making your claim the Clinton's operate a criminal empire I'd say is you engaging in rightwing talking points.

I found this article interesting and thought you might also skudrunner.

A vote for skudrunner is will please the Clinton campaign.

  6. This is good news. I would like to see the percentage of people who would accept a Trump presidency decrease to no more than half of that number.

It is encouraging to see Johnson and Stein with good numbers. Maybe 2020 would be the year for the republican party to simply not field a candidate at all and in that way encourage a third party revolution.

I might add that it would be twelve years late for the republican party to give some nod of apology for the sadistic presidency of GWB.

If the republican party had true strength, then, in 2024, they could re-emerge and vanquish their democratic and third party rivals. If not, then the Green Party could become the liberal left wing of American politics and let the democrats take over the conservative position.

We really don't need anyone to the right of HRC or BHO in a position of national power.

  7. We need 3 or 4 viable parties in America. Of course a strong state presence is necessary for a 3'rd and 4th party to do well nationally. Lowering the bar from 15% to 10% to qualify for the national debate stage is also needed.

Personally an apology is something not needed for me. A simple acknowledgement of error is sufficient.

I differ with you somewhat Flying Junior in that both the conservative GOP and liberal (progressive) Democratic Party need to move to the center. If they did the natural drift would be a conservative one to the left.

I have moved from general disapproval of BHO in 2008 to respecting his stewardship whole not agreeing with his total agenda.

  9. Did you hear the one about the new sports stadium in Warsaw that had to be torn down? Everywhere you sit, there's a poll.

  10. We'd need proportional representation (and a rewriting of the Constitution) for 3rd parties to be viable. Or instant runoff voting. IRV might be possible, but the two parties have and will continue to oppose it (to preserve their power).

According to Thom Hartman, Stein is running a "vanity campaign" and hasn't done the work (bad ground game). Johnson has ballot access in all 50 states and DC, while Stein has ballot access in 23 states and DC (although the Stein campaign says they "expect Stein to get on the ballot in 47 states and DC". We'll see. (Sources: 1, 2, 3).

However, in addition to getting on the ballot, people have to actually vote for these candidates. Which they won't. Not enough for either Johnson or Stein to win in even one state.

  11. That's the purpose of constitutional amendment. Simple. Just get the movement steam rolling. Done.

    1. A Constitutional amendment that says what? BTW, my opinion is that it is very unlikely there will ever be another one. Maybe the ERA. But that's only because it's already been passed by a number of states, and apparently if the remaining states pass it, it might become an official amendment. IRV wouldn't take an amendment, which is why I think it's more likely (more likely than not likely at all).
