Enjoy the Weekend!

The Republican Party, under Trump, is headed for a combustive breakup. Ronald Reagan envisioned a shining city on a hill. Trump represents nothing more than a thug with money. Can the man who shouts “I’d like to punch him in face!” and “Knock the crap out of them!” about protesters possibly quote Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower or Reagan in his acceptance speech? He could, but it would be no more plausible than a fish doing a tap dance.

In temperament and judgment, this is now Trump’s party. And take him at his word: His supporters will riot, as he predicted this week, if he doesn’t get his way. Sane Republicans, perhaps a third of the party, have no choice but to plot an honorable discharge. The exit polls in Ohio found that 42 percent of Republicans said they would consider a third-party candidate. They can also support Hillary Clinton, or sit this one out. But they cannot show up in Cleveland and have their principles paved over by Trump’s bullies.

There is no getting around how much Trump’s followers now echo his darkest sentiments. In Tuesday’s exit polls, huge majorities of Trump supporters backed his call to ban Muslims from entering the country, and for rounding up and deporting 11 million illegal immigrants.

H/T Progressive Eruptions.

  1. Read somewhere "Reince Priebus is in charge, but he has no more power over the process than a harbormaster does over the tides." Mr. Priebus
was chosen RNC Chair because of his ability to merge mainstream GOP types with Tea Partiers successfully in Wisconsin. Methinks he has created a political Frankenstein. It gets more bizarre by the day.

  2. I'd take Trump over Cruz any day.

  3. Yes BB-Idaho it does. And it will continue getting more bizarre. Watching cruz on the Hannity program last night with Governor Perry and Fiorina was enough to convince any sane person to run from the TeaPublican/GOP tent.

Jersey, trump is the frontrunner, so for now that is where the focus has been. With cruz having a real shot at the nomination this becomes of heightened concern. cruz is smarter and smoother than trump. Therefore equally as disconserting, if not more so, as he could, and probably would do more damage to the USA economy and world standing than even trump would do.

  4. A Hobson's Choice, Trump or Cruz. It's like choosing between being shot
or poisoned. That either has gotten so far is confounding, an insult
to rational thinking. With the possible exception of Kasich, the entire
original slate was a weird collection, IMO.

  5. I thought Rand Paul was the other one that was closer to rational as well. Christie, if he wasn't such a bully might have been aright as well. The GOP is fracturing and if it stays fractured and or denigrates is fine by me.

I keep hoping for a leader with reasoning ability and a sense of what America really needs with some concrete rational ideas on how to at least make things a bit better for the middle class. I think there will be a very long wait BB Idaho, if it ever does happen.

  6. I think that has been established. Although demon {A demon, daemon, or fiend is a supernatural, often malevolent being prevalent in religion, occultism, literature, fiction, mythology and folklore.}only applies with regard to his religious belifs and his desire to impose the same on everyone else. My take anyway.

  7. I'm pretty sure a number of us who comment here have been around for a while and have seen a lot of bizarre characters run for office. But who could ever, EVER imagine a candidate saying this and still stay in the race? Especially someone we know to have little to no knowledge of foreign or domestic policies -- and absolutely no understanding of our Constitution:

Mika B. asking Trump on "Morning Joe:"

“Who are you consulting with consistently so that you’re ready on day one?”

    Trump replied,

“I’m speaking with myself, number one, because I have a very good brain and I’ve said a lot of things. … My primary consultant is myself, and I have a good instinct for this stuff.”

If that answer from a man who could possibly be the leader of the most powerful country in the world -- if that answer doesn't make rational people soil themselves, then nothing will. I didn't think I'd live long enough to see this great country consider a narcissistic baboon as the possible head of the Party of Lincoln.

Call him up and give him hell.
