Trump, the Future Christmas President?...

TPM - Donald Trump on Monday night criticized Starbucks for creating a blank red cup for the holiday season, rather than including winter or Christmas-themed designs.

Starbucks' decision has angered Christians who believe the coffee chain has declared a "war on Christmas."

"I have one of the most successful Starbucks, in Trump Tower. Maybe we should boycott Starbucks? I don't know. Seriously, I don't care. By the way, that's the end of that lease, but who cares?" Trump said during a campaign event in Illinois on Monday. "If I become president, we're all going to be saying Merry Christmas again, that I can tell you."

Trump making a non issue a issue by whipping up fundamentalist frenzy among the Christian right.

Hey Donnie ole boy, most will keep saying Merry Christmas when they feel like it, some won't, and frankly nobody cares if ya renew the Starbuck lease at Trump Towers or not. Oh, and BTW Donnie, you sure as hell can pander to interest groups with the best of em.

  1. "Merry Christmas again"

The lie is in the "again" part since we've never stopped saying it. Atheists say it, Jews say it, some Muslims probably do and so do I. Christmas with it's pagan origins has something for everyone of good will as the saying goes. It seems to be the part about peace, compassion and love that Trump misses. It's a damned paper cup, not the holy grail - and the only thing I can imagine taking offense at is Starbucks prices.

I'm sure if it had snowmen and reindeer on the cup he'd be howling about putting Christ back in Christmas, but one of this is about cups or Jesus, it's about Trump. He's one person
I won't be saying Merry Christmas too this year or any other.

  2. ... he'd be howling about putting Christ back in Christmas, ...

If he didn't certainly Bill O'Reilly would!

I am not religious and I have never stopped saying merry Christmas, nor has others I know that are not of the faith. You are right Captain, it's about Trump. Everything is about Trump in The Donald's mind; such as it is.

  3. I suppose he will issue an executive order demanding everyone say Merry Christmas.

  4. Trump doesn't have to drink the "cawfee". Problem solved.

  5. IMO, some day in the future, psychology textbooks will devote a full chapter on the phenomena of Trump &
    Carson and their voters.

  6. "Happy Holidays" is the same as saying "Happy Holy Days."

I'm not religious, but I put up a pagan-origin Xmas tree, as do Christians.

I'll be saying "Happy Holidays," Merry Christmas," and "Happy Solstice" as I do every December. This Starbucks non-controversy is being ramped up by the eternally "feeling victimized" extremist Xtians. It doesn't exist in reality, but only in their little cramped "I'm a victim" world. And it's eternally boring.

  7. Trump, IMO, does personally not care in the least. This is purely about him pandering to the dumb dumbs and nothing more.

  8. Just hopped over from 'whosyourdaddy' a blog so bad that the ladle they're scraping the barrel with has to go through the bottom anytime now. Ben Carson makes Trumpledore look like a benevolent genius. And this guy's the front-runner??? What the HELL is happening to US politics? Please, please tell me a lot of African Americans disown this nutcase, right? Please???

It's come to a point where what could be construed as an insult (like 'A IDIOT') becomes the objective truth when applied to pyramid huggers like SpongeBen Squarejaws.

I'm not religious but just in case: 'G-d bless America', because you're gonna need it...

  9. @ Dervish , I agree. Since his announcement I've held he isn't really serious and he may just be helping the decline of the far right and tea party goofs. I can hope anyway :)

@ Gert , Thanks for stopping by. The Stench Trench, aka The Smut Hut is really not representative of the majority of conservatives, republicans, or even the neo cons I don't believe. There is a sizeable group, mostly tea party and fundamentalist Christians that make up the looney fringe in American politics in my opinion. Following the financial crisis of 2007-2008 and the election of Barrack Obama to the presidency things started going downhill in the GOP and it as been downhill every since with them. Hopefully soon the mature adults, like Kasich, will be able to get things back in hand and move forward with something sensible at least. However I'm not terribly hopeful it will happen fast enough.

Yes, If a Trump, Carson, Cruz, Rubio, and possibly Fiorina were to get elected we are certainly going to need it. Oh, and I'm not religious either.

  10. I've always been irreligious and I've always celebrated Christmas. It's a nice holiday, with a nice story, and nice traditions. You don't have to be Christian to celebrate Christmas and more than you'd have to be a Jew to be a Christian.

I'm also worried about what the rise of a populist right. Many a real scary story started out with the rise of a populist right. You can get lucky with that sort of thing and wind up with a relatively beneficent or benign leader, but if you get a real psychopath, like Carson or worse, Cruz, than ol' even-in-a-foxhole-atheist Jersey McJones will start have to praying the safety of his countrymen. Those guys are flat-out fascists.

  11. Jersey, on what objective criteria do you base your characterization of Dr. Ben Carson and Ted Cruz being psychopaths?.

I do share your concerns over a Carson and Cruz as both represent views that can be considered less than main stream societal views. Perhaps sociopath is a better word to describe them?
