The Donald Importing Foreign Labor While Running On Claim He'll Protect American Jobs...

Rational Nation USA
Purveyor of Truth

The Donald has been talking about how if elected president he would protect (save) American jobs. Of course The Donald has not been clear on exactly how he would accomplish this; in fact he has given absolutely no specifics at all. From Reuters we learn just what The Donald has been up to with respect to filling jobs within his own companies.

Donald Trump is staking his run for U.S. president in part on a vow to protect American jobs. But this month, one of his companies, the elite Mar-a-Lago Club resort in Florida, applied to import 70 foreign workers to serve as cooks, wait staff and cleaners.

A Reuters analysis of U.S. government data reveals that this is business as usual in the New York property magnate's empire.

Trump owns companies that have sought to import at least 1,100 foreign workers on temporary visas since 2000, according to U.S. Department of Labor data reviewed by Reuters. Most of the applications were approved, the data show.

Nine companies majority-owned by Trump have sought to bring in foreign waitresses, cooks, vineyard workers and other laborers on temporary work-visa programs administered by the Labor Department.

The candidate's foreign talent hunt included applications for an assistant golf-course superintendent, an assistant hotel manager and a banquet manager.

Two of his companies, Trump Model Management and Trump Management Group LLC, have sought visas for nearly 250 foreign fashion models, the records show.

Trump’s presidential campaign and a lawyer for the businessman declined to comment. The Mar-a-Lago Club could not be reached for comment.

The analysis of Trump's history of actively importing foreign workers comes as he has emerged as an early front-runner in the race for the Republican nomination in the November 2016 presidential election. Trump has positioned himself as a champion of American workers whose livelihoods are threatened by illegal foreign laborers and the offshoring of U.S. jobs

“I will be the greatest jobs president that God every created," he said in announcing his candidacy on June 16. "I will bring back our jobs from China, Mexico and other places. I will bring back jobs and our money."

Trump generated both notoriety and buzz by singling out Mexican immigrants in the United States. “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best," he said in the speech. "They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists."

In a speech on July 11, Trump distinguished between those working legally and illegally in the United States, saying thousands of "legal" Mexicans - "incredible people" - have worked for him over the years.

The Labor Department records don't specify the nationality of the foreign workers sought by companies. But Trump could be bringing many Mexican workers into the United States.

Reuters examined records of applications for three categories of temporary work visas - the H-2A, H-2B and H-1B programs - submitted by employers to the Labor Department.

The Donald, aside from being a bombastic narcissist and basically an totally self serving individual, is also a goddamn hypocrite

  2. The concern of course is really the contents of the organ directly below his outrages coiffure. Or perhaps more accurately stated its apparent inability to connect with anything that would show an ability to understand and practice sound ethical behavior as his norm.

  3. Well, FOX News will have the Opportunity to take down their Monster next week. My bet is they blow it, intentionally. Trump is great for FOX News ratings. Even Rupert Murdoch can't get them to stop the coverage. They say it's because Trump is so popular, yet Bernie Sanders is out there breaking records for live turn-outs and FOX pays no attention at all. It's just the ratings, the rubberneckers ogling the accident. You can't sell reverse mortgages to Sanders fans.

    1. There have been other times, Jersey, when you said Fox News was ignoring a particular story... at a time when Fox News was running that one story as an hourly headline.

I checked to see if this was the case with this one.

      Ignoring? Not really:

    3. dmarks, you really need to get a grasp on relativity.

Les, FOX News CREATED the Donald Trump candidacy. They have lowered the discourse in this country to it's lowest ever. Saber Tooth Tigers had higher quality political programming. And why you'd singularly mention the opinion programming is beyond me. There is absolutely nothing but opinion. Everything is spun to the right. It's a clock fest. If FOX was a wood screw, it would be buried 40 feet into the lumber. If FOX broadcasted from the South Pole it would reverse the rotation of the Earth. I believe FOX employees have to undergo pre-employment surgery to disconnect the Left side of their brains. And if I'm not mistaken, no FOX employee is allowed to drive in England.

    6. I can, and very specific figure-free claims like that someone "pays no attention" are not figurative speech.

Your clever wood-screw comparisons are, however, figurative. I can tell the difference, and I guess you can't.

  4. "Most of the applications were approved, the data show."

No laws were broken. Vain self-serving hypocrisy is another matter. Right now, the Cringe Fringe is only interested in validating their anger and will justify the Dumpster without paying attention to details or nuance. It's the way they vote.

    1. Many on the "cringe fringe" (if I am guessing your term right) hate Mexicans, so they keep saying stuff about Trump like he is "telling it like it is", "saying what is necessary", etc..

But certain "details" are out there as well: Trump is no "Religious Right" guy. Just one of the ways his candidacy can fly away with his hair.

Jersey has an interesting point about Trump's statements on Howard Stern, too. The public has a certain tolerance for many years old comments. but some real zingers put into campaign ads could harm the lamprey-mouth.

  5. My guess why the republican party seems to be adrift without a rudder is a simple lack of leadership. Newt Gingrich is arguably the last person who at least could have been referred to as a leader. In 2008, the de facto leader of the party was surely Rush Limbaugh, or at least his script writers and handlers. I'm sure a lot of you tuned in the Wednesday after Obama was elected and the entire machine received its marching orders. No matter who gets hurt, or what happens, the Obama presidency must fail at all costs.

But today, the most powerful republican, Boehner, is reviled by a mob rule mentality. Rand Paul is struggling to win party loyalty, yet remains on the fringe. We can thank Jeb Bush for stand your ground, however, Butt Chimney didn't even invite him to Utah. Surely, Christie is a true hero to a very small group, but will not likely gain national traction. Gotta love that one quote, "If I am elected, the national pot party is over!" Classic. Scott Walker? Let's all hope not for the sake of our children.

It's a complete power vacuum. The only real power appears to reside with the media who keep the base misinformed and fearful. It's like an oligarchy of FOX News and talk radio, with figureheads such as Hannity, O'Reilly, Kelly, Rivera and other talking head personalities as the true party leaders.

    1. As unnerving as your hypothesis is I fear there is a great deal of truth to it.

For our republic to function effectively requires two or more functioning political parties that have the interests of people of the nation in mind. Leadership that demands allegiance to rational intelligent debate of issues and guides action to acheive effective compromise is essential.

Our modern media has devolved in many cases to nothing more than a circus act and the news is often treated as malleable data.

I'm beginning to think thinks have progressed beyond the salvagable. But as someone once said, "there is always hope".

    2. The GOP had rational candidates who were reviled and run out of the party. Kasich is already being called a RINO by the base, just as, in the last election, they labeled Jon Huntsman or any other GOPer who didn;t engage in hyperbole, calling Obama the anti-Christ, America-hating Muslim. Gary Johnson was another candidate who was dismissed because he wouldn't play the crazy card.

Those sort of candidates want to discuss issues that are relevant and important, while Trump and Fox Noise want to grab attention for attention's sake. No one really believes Trump will be the nominee or president, yet the comedy continues.

  6. Anyway when someone rails on this issue, it is so common that there is hypocrisy. On both sides. I remember when Michael Moore was an early and major voice against businesses outsourcing and offshoring. At the time he was making a big issue of this, I went and checked his own web site. He had hired a Canadian company to design and run it...

    2. "...to a degree.."

While there is some difference between us on which one is more poisonous (perhaps in terms of counting the number GOP candidates worse than Hillary... and differing on that count), I am not that hugely off from the standpoint you are expressing at this time

  8. The argument can be made that Trump is simply playing by the rules as they exist (and Michael Moore too). If Trump sincerely wishes to change the rules (and then play by the new rules), then there is no hypocrisy. Of course he could simply be telling people what they want to hear. People know that our so-called free trade deals have cost many American jobs... and that is one reason they like Trump.

BTW, the Rightwing site "NewsMax" is behind Trump. I recently received an email from NewsMax that contained an "Urgent Message from Donald J. Trump"... asking for money. I guess he isn't going to totally self-finance his campaign.

Trump says (in his fundraising email) "I am sick and tired of China and Mexico and all other countries beating us at the negotiating table – getting one-sided trade deals from Washington officials.
They have been letting these countries rip off our jobs, killing our potential for economic growth. ... Thanks to Obama, the American dream is dead. But I can bring it back – bigger and better and stronger than ever before. A few weeks ago the political establishment went crazy when I pointed out the fact that some illegal aliens from Mexico, being pushed into our country by the Mexican government, are bringing crime, drugs and murder to the United States. The media tried to smear me, claiming I was racist and that I attacked the Mexican people. Nothing could be further from the truth".

Notice that he flips his original statement around 180 degrees... instead of some illegal immigrants being "good people" now it's SOME who are the bad people. He should have said he misspoke to begin with. It is hard to believe that he thinks he can get away with lying about what he said... when it is on video.
