The Christie Popularity Problem...

So, what do you think of Governor Chris Christie and his take on reality? Popularity ratings aside, would he make a viable president of these United States of America? Or is popularity the primary criteria for electing presidents? Sometimes it certainly seems that way. If ya know what we mean.

  1. His take on reality? I can't seem to get a fix on the guy, which is ironic, when you think about it, but that makes me a little uncomfortable. As far as Republicans go, he's more politically comfortable for me.

Would he make a viable president of these United States of America? I suppose he could run, but he's got some serious studying to do, I'm sure.

Is popularity the primary criteria for electing presidents? I don't think it's primary, though in many elections I'm sure it is and was, but "popularity" has a variety of connotations, so... Besides, people are more clever than you think. I voted for Obama for a host of reasons, but primarily just keeping the GOP out of the White House. A LOT of young independents went that way, and probably will again. I don't think conservatives understand just how unpalatable they've become to the young, informed and educated - regardless of how they're educated.

  2. Thinking about your points I find myself in primary agreement. Oddly enough, or maybe not so odd, the thought occurred to me that a sizable segment of the electorate vote their wallets and pocketbooks. Mostly without a thought given to reason, logic, or much else.

  3. Pretty much nodding along with both of you.

  4. I remember Christie from when he was the federal DA for New Jersey, which, in New Jersey, is a pretty serious full-time job that gets you a lot of press coverage. He was as rambunctious then as he is now, by the way. He's consistently "that way." I don't know if America is ready for that, but ya' never know.

The important thing, I think, to understand about Christie is that he is a product of a peculiar and powerful political machine in NJ. You know how the Chicago Machine gave us Obama, Clinton, Kennedy? Well, he's from a sorta of machine like that, but "Republican." I say "Republican" because they're really more just an assemblage of interests and a lot of them cross party lines. When I tell people I voted GOP many times, they often don't believe me, but it is very true. Sometimes, in NJ, even a libby lib liberal like me will find themselves voting GOP at the state and local levels. Here, in Florida, I couldn't imagine such a thing.

  5. He's right about community policing being the way to go... Otherwise I didn't hear anything from him that I agreed with. Is he going to run for president? I don't know why he would as he does not have a chance. But then several others who also have no chance have already announced. But those people are running for higher speaking fees and to sell books. And Christie has a job as an elected official, unlike those other people.

Limbaugh is right about Christie... Up until the last paragraph where he referred to Walker, Rubio and Cruz as "honest" I was in agreement with him. Of course popularity is the primary criteria for electing a president.

Name one truly honest politician either left or right. I know of none. Bernie Sanders might be the closet and he is too far left as is Crux too far right.

Of course popularity is the primary criteria for electing a president.

Unfortunately this is true. We have seen a few instances of this in just the last 50 years.

  7. "poularity"? What's poultry got to do with anything? ;-)

Christie is obviously just another douchebag.

I pity you Americans having to choose between Clinton (bweurk!) and that bunch of Rep imbeciles that want the WH too.

    You need another Revolution, period.

    1. Well, you just might be right Gert. But what's to say it would change a damn thing in the end. Influence, Power, Control... the driving force behind ALL that is political.

    2. Excuse me, he said "hottest" not "honest". I guess I misread that. Anyway, I don't think that is accurate either.

As for the revolution... I support this. Americans could wage a revolution at the ballot box in 2016 by electing Bernie Sanders. I doubt anyone could deny we've never had a president like Sanders. And he'd be with Libertarians in standing against crony capitalism, corporate welfare, and militarism. He's also with Libertarians when it comes to ending the war on drugs, ending the surveillance state/restoring the 4th amendment, repealing the 2001 AUMF and the PATRIOT act, opposing the FED, marriage equality, a woman's right to choose, etc. Lots of areas of agreement.

I agree with all that. Crony capitalism, or Neoliberalism as I call it, is one of the biggest of these ills because it’s trans-national, global even.

Unfortunately things are going to get a lot worse before the electorates (in the 1st World in general) will 'get it'. Meanwhile here in the good ole’US of A people get hot up mainly over side show sex-related issues, a side-show at best.

    4. Yes Gert, methinks you are right. Us Americans (some of us anyway) can get awfully anal about lots of stupid sh*t that's for sure.

    5. It’s because you’re not being given a choice though. The Republic is being appropriated by Big Corp and the Goppers and Demmers allow you to get hot under the collar about minor ‘conscience’ issues. This way you still feel you have a ‘vote’. Meanwhile the third dog runs with the real bone, the one made of solid gold. We’re seeing it starting to happen this side of the pond too…

    6. You've figured it out Gert. Tis true, the two party system provides the appearance of choice when in reality the two parties prop each other up. Each gets a turn being the majority party in power and together they move the USA closer to cliffs edge.

Distraction politics does indeed serve it's purpose; much to the detriment of the people who are being governed by a corrupt and unethical system. But as they say, you get what you deserve. We've done it all to ourselves. Sigh...

    7. Having said that, massive victory for our LGTB brothers and sisters in Oireland: Gay Marriage, Yaaaayyy! Jesus himself must have voted that day. Rainbows over Dublin...

Can't hurt the Cause in the US either! Goppers will probably blame Irish victory on O'Bama. ;-)

Most worrying (euphemism) phenomenon: secret trade agreements.

  8. Oh no! Late for coffee and donuts again.

My main concern regarding Christie, besides a number of policy issues, is his bullying. He trades on bullying, which he considers "candor." In my book, it is a mark of bad character and a warning sign. Bullying coupled with arrogance is what tyrants are made of.

    3. CC gave a speech Wednesday at a “roast” dinner that was more “raw” than cooked.

The New Jersey governor said one journalist should "open your eyes" and "clean the s--- out of your ears."

"Then just get the f--- away from me if you don't know what I'm doing.

Last year during a publicized event, a teacher admonished CC over his “language” and “bullying style” saying he sets a bad example for young people. CC verbally abused the teacher in public over her comment.

This man is not presidential material.

    4. I despise such coarseness in public discourse. Rahm is another example of that.

My problems with CC are much more to do with this and the related issues of his demeanor, bullying, thuggishness, and less with him not being "conservative" enough.

    5. Not to worry (O)CT(O)PUS, Christie won't get elected. My point is Cruz is just as dangerous to our liberty and freedoms as Christie, if not more so. He is insidious.

  9. What, I thought Libertarians strongly supported Neoliberalism? Neoliberalism is the "freeing" of business by government getting out of the way, while Crony capitalism is government inserting itself into the free market with regulations to help corporations. Or with contracts, bailouts, etc. Any way the State can help the corporation (except by getting out of the way), that's crony capitalism. And Libertarians hate it.

I would add that the reason is because they believe that corporations can crush workers and further enrich the oligarchs without government help... but I think that is where RN would stop agreeing with me (if he does indeed agree with my first paragraph).

    2. Some of the Libertarians aren't crony or neoliberals in the US at ALL. Trust me on that...

    3. I thought neoliberalism was one of the basic tenants of libertarianism. They're all about "freedom" and neoliberalism represents "economic freedom".

("Economic freedom" being the freedom of large corporations to crush workers and further enrich the oligarchs).
