Cliven Bundy, that rootin tootin Nevada rancher is back in the news again.

Excerpt from Mediaite - “I know black folks have a had a hard time with slavery and you know, the government was in on it. And the government’s in on it again,” Bundy says as spaghetti western music plays in the background. “I worked my whole life without mistreating anybody. A man ought to be able to express himself without being called names.”

In case you don’t recall, it was Bundy who suggested that “the Negro” was “better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things.”

Video via You Tube:

I do like Kamau Bakari, what little he said sounds damn reasonable. Bundy, I guess he needs to make up his mind.

  1. Horribly racist. Doesn't matter if it is a Black candidate who "approved this message". By "the government's in on it again" Bundy refers to Conservative BS concerning Welfare programs "enslaving" Blacks. Bakari will get the vote of White racists who think they aren't racist and view him as one of the "good ones". Racists like Bundy. Bakari declares himself part of the lunatic fringe by buying into the welfare slavery myth... which is actually just an excuse for Republicans to cut programs that help the poor. Shameful.

  2. Well I'm not surprised as most everyone who is not a full blown progressive is either a fascist or a racist in your view. In the case of Bundy I just happen to agree.

Now with respect to Bakari. I have known blacks that would agree with the important things he said, do you have the ability to realize what they were.

BTW, did you just imply I am a racist because I said I like what he said? I hope I am misunderstanding your intent. But if not, SHOVE IT. I will await your response (clarification) if any.

  3. I gave my opinion on what was said in the commercial and that is the only opinion I will be sharing. In any case, don't know what specifically you agreed with or why you agreed with it. Many Conservatives share similar views, which does not make them necessarily racist, but that also does not make the views not racist... just the person holding them wrong. And possibly racist. As far as RN being a racist goes, I believe his intentions are good even if his views are wrong. But, as I already said, RN wasn't clear regarding what he agreed with Bakari on or why he agreed with it. Also, I was referring to something Bundy said.

  4. With your "superior" intelligence I am certain you can identify the positive in Bakari's remarks.

Yes, the person holding the views may not be a bad person, just wrong. You often are, IMNHO.

Glad you recognize I am neither racist or fascist. I'd just hate to have to ban you again. :-)

  5. I know it's just a typo, and I make my share of them, that's for sure. But my typos are never as clever as yours. Mine are dull and unimaginative, whereas yours can conjure up the most wonderful images:

Cliven Bundt. I imagine a moldy, hole-in-the center crummy cake. Sorta like the guy it's named for. (I hope you don't correct it and spoil my fun.)
    ;-)

  6. Yes Shaw, I can be clever even when it's unintentional.

Because I'm in a sporting mood tonight I shan't spoil your fun. ;-)

    I do like imagination!

  7. Anyway, I think Bunt's campaign is definitely not a home-run. More like a strike-out...

And if you are STILL calling African-Americans "Negroes", you'd best examine your name-calling accusations.

  8. Now, in regards to Bakari. From his own web site: "It is time we defend the Constitution, all of it. We need to abolish the IRS, expand energy, expand school choice, pass a balanced budget amendment, stop lawlessness, repeal every word of Obamacare, and end corruption. "

There are parts of Obamacare which are popular with the vast majority of Americans, make sense, and most Republicans support.Though overall, this "unhealthy" bill forces people to lose their insurance and includes destructive provisions to force companies to fire people (and fines then if they hire more than 50 also), don't we need to repair this law rather than destroy it completely?

"Taxes". Don't most all Americans believe they need to be collected? So, then, why not some for of IRS?

"Stop Lawlessness" That's a really vague thing, isn't it? All candidates want less crime. So, what does this guy want that is different? This?

I do strongly support school choice, though. And this is one part of his platform which isn't so vague,

But you have to admit, overall his platform is as threadbare and poorly thought out as awful looking mistake-peppered dark-yellow web page, which seems a relic from Geocities from a decade or more ago,

    --------

I do agree with Dervish Sanders about Bundt. However, I do not agree with him about Bakari. Sanders' statement comes across as a back-door attack against the man's skin color. I do not believe his skin color has any relevance, and besides, no white racists would vote for him. Because, even as one of the "good ones" (to use the words from that statement), Bakari is a black man and racists hate that.

Bakari deserves to be evaluated solely on matters such as his platform and his association with Cravan Cinnabon or whatever we want to call him. Not his skin color.

  9. Most people who harbor racist sentiments are in denial regarding those sentiments. They still hold them, but they come up with justifications regarding why they aren't racist. A person usually isn't a racist or not a racist... everyone has some degree of racial biases. It's a matter of how strong those biases are. Except for those who embrace racism, such as KKK types.

And I made no "back-door attack against the man's skin color". I spoke against racism, not in favor of it. And if dmarks agrees that Bundy is a racist, then the question is WHY did Bakari chose to use him in a campaign commercial? Because he's alerting those on the Right with strong racial biases that he's one of the "good ones". Not my words, but the words racially biased people use to identify African Americans who act and think "like a White person".

Bundy: It's almost like Black folks think White folks owe them something.

This isn't insulting to Blacks? So WHO is this ad supposed to appeal to?

  10. Conservatives (in general, as opposed to isolated cases) aren't any more uncompassionate and racist than liberals are unpatriotic and lacking in family values. They just disagree on politics and both sides really need to get a grip here and knock off the demonizing, in my opinion.

  11. And of course there are liberal bigots as well - ”These Negroes, they‘re getting pretty uppity these days and that‘s a problem for us since they‘ve got something now they never had before, the political pull to back up their uppityness. Now we‘ve got to do something about this, we‘ve got to give them a little something, just enough to quiet them down, not enough to make a difference.......I’ll have them niggers voting Democratic for the next two hundred years.” Lyndon Baines Johnson, 1963.

    1. That supposed quote is over 50 years old. Also fake. LBJ never said he was going to trick N-words into voting Democratic. In fact, I think people who believe African Americans could be TRICKED into voting Democratic might be a little racially biased. Essentially they're saying Black people are stupid.

    2. BS (the same guy who accused Nixon and Reagan of treason on far more flimsy grounds). LBJ said this on Air Force One to not one but two governors and Kessler has it on tape... And take a listen to this from your racist hero who consistently opposed civil rights legislation (including the 1957 Civil Rights Act initially) and who only did a 180 when he decided to run for President - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1rIDmDWSms

    4. What tape? Also, easy to call BS on something I didn't say. I agree with the MSNBC article. Thom Hartmann did NOT suggest what you say he suggested, BTW. Even though your misinformation received a lot of agreement... it still never happened.

  12. 02/28/2024 - Johnson did the right thing. And he realized that he would lose the south. The old racist southern democrats turned republican following the Civil Rights Act of 1965 when the south went from blue to red. All the racists left the party and turned the republican party racist. It remains so today.
