King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia Warning to the West...

ISIS and the terrorist threat is growing as we (the world as a whole) debate, dither, and ponder just what the most appropriate response might be. A couple things seem quite clear, 1) any response must have the backing of the Middle East and it's population, 2) a broad Arab, European, and American coalition must be formed with all parties being both the financial burden as well as military involvement. Anything short of this will ultimately be doomed to fail.

There are hopeful signs that such a coalition may be in the realm of possibility. As time is of the essence assembling such a coalition sooner rather than later should be of utmost priority. Of course the United States because of it's role as leader of the free world must take a leading role in any effort to assemble such a coalition.

From Yahoo News:

Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) (AFP) - King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia has warned that the West will be the next target of the jihadists sweeping through Syria and Iraq, unless there is "rapid" action.

"If we ignore them, I am sure they will reach Europe in a month and America in another month," he said in remarks quoted on Saturday by Asharq al-Awsat daily and Saudi-backed Al-Arabiya television station.

"Terrorism knows no border and its danger could affect several countries outside the Middle East," said the king who was speaking at a welcoming ceremony on Friday for new ambassadors, including a new envoy from Saudi ally the United States.

The Islamic State (IS) jihadist group has prompted widespread concern as it advances in both Syria and Iraq, killing hundreds of people, including in gruesome beheadings and mass executions.

Lack of action would be "unacceptable" in the face of the phenomenon, King Abdullah said.

"You see how they (jihadists) carry out beheadings and make children show the severed heads in the street," he said, condemning the "cruelty" of such acts.

"It is no secret to you, what they have done and what they have yet to do. I ask you to transmit this message to your leaders: 'Fight terrorism with force, reason and (necessary) speed'."

President Barack Obama has yet to decide whether the United States should launch raids against positions held by the Islamic State jihadist group in Syria to follow US air strikes on IS activities in Iraq.

US Secretary of State John Kerry called Friday for a global coalition to combat Islamic State fighters' "genocidal agenda".

President Obama has been accused of not taking the threat seriously and of having a disjointed ineffective foreign policy. This may be true in some respects. Somehow one gets the feeling that his measured actions thus far may very well be the forerunner to decisive action with respect to the ISIS threat to Europe, the USA, and indeed the entire world.

Will have to wait and see but I for one remain hopeful.

  1. ""You see how they (jihadists) carry out beheadings and make children show the severed heads in the street," he said, condemning the "cruelty" of such acts."

hmm? Saudi Arabia holds public executions, including these barbaric executions with a sword, and forcing people to watch. Not getting where the King is coming from, especially when he is making a point to speak out on an issue in which Saudi Arabia is rather like its ISIS coreligionists.

  2. You picked up on that huh dmarks?

Saudi Arabia has its self interests and maybe King Abdullah recognizes the threat ISIS poses to his crown.

I say ally oneself with those having the common interest of removing the scom threat.

"I say ally oneself with those having the common interest of removing the scom threat."

A threat to whom and for what? Having lived through the 'fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them here' travesty of the previous USA administration, one can understand the reluctance of people's willingness to accept blindly, proclamations of threats by questionable domestic and international establishment entities.

Again, why is this a problem for USA?

Once again Ema's partisanship blinds her to facts and makes her a laughingstock.

This is why it is so laughable that she never mentions living through five years of the current administration deploying troops, escalating involvement in Libya, striking all over with drones, surging, keeping huge numbers of troops in the Mideast theatre, etc... all also for "'fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them here".

  4. "barbaric executions with a sword ???

One whack! Over and out! Maybe less barbaric than injecting condemned prisoners with chemicals that kill them slowly ... like up to an hour.

But methods of execution are not the point. The point is how to avoid repeating the past mistakes of American misadventures in the Middle East. Better to tread with caution than stumble into another debacle with disastrous consequences. Yes, I posted on this too earlier today.

    1. Octo: Thus is my uneasiness with the death penalty overall...

But at least we don't have the death penalty for refusing to worship a certain god. The Saudi government kills people just for that.

  5. BTW, I am not inclined to take the word of Michael McCaul on anything! In August 2011, McCaul, along with John Culberson and Ted Poe, attempted to remove the right of deceased soldiers families to choose which prayers, if any, were to be read at a soldier's funeral. The three politicians attempted to impose Christian ceremonies on the military funerals of everybody who has served in the military, regardless of whether or not the deceased was Christian - with or without the consent of the family of the deceased. McCaul is not a man I could respect or trust.

Just because he is Chairman of the House Committee for Homeland Security does not make him an expert on homeland security. There are all too many partisan hacks in Congress, and McCaul is one of them.

  6. RN: I wonder if the real enemy here is bloodthirsty medievalism. Not Islam as such. Look at the medieval attitude of the Serbian Chetniks/etc as they slaughtered a hundred thousand Bosnians, Kosovars, and Croats during the 1990s. Mass rapes. crucifixion of enemies. hundreds of thousands fleeing, atrocities in the name of millennium-old grudges.... All there too, as now with ISIS (and its close ally and ideological twin Hamas).

The problem now being that too many Muslims now embrace this brutal medieval outlook and not enough speak out.

    1. "not enough speak out"

Recently, voices in the Middle East have spoken out; the alarms are ringing throughout the region:

      The Grand Mufti of Egypt
The Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia
      The monarchy of Saudi Arabia
      The King of Jordan

Last year, the Egyptian military overthrew the government of the Muslim Brotherhood.
Years ago, the monarchy of Saudi Arabia purged and banished al-Qaeda.

Nonetheless, there is a layer of duplicity to be taken into account. ISIS trades Syrian oil for money and arms through Turkey, our NATO ally. Our allies in the Gulf host American military installations; yet the wealthy citizens of the Gulf states finance radical Jihadi groups including al-Qaeda, al-Nusra, and ISIS.

If you are looking for easy answers, there are none. Meanwhile, Obama is criticized for being overly cautious. My opinion: Caution is warranted (given the mess of the Middle East) and long overdue.

  7. And ISIS continues the beheading of American journalists. Sotloff most recent victim.

White House has allegedly been receiving briefings on growing ISIS for over a year.

No strategy to deal with ISIS. Is this good as Ron Paul believes or is the beheading of Sotloff an act of war as the neo cons believe?

  8. These terrorists have direct advocates in Congress... such as Keith Ellison, who actively participates with a major HAMAS fund raising outfit in the US.

  9. Wow, I did not realize that dmarks. Wish you had provided a link to the. data.

  10. CAIR is the terrorists' public lobby in the US, having deep ties with Hamas/etc. Ellison received campaign money from them, and they are outspoken against Jews, and in favor of the interests of terrorists. Here is one link, involving him speaking at their event:

    http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/first-muslim-congressman-addresses-cair-banquet-56465627.html

Ellison is also in deep with Egypt's terrorist Brotherhood:

There are moderate Muslims. Ellison isn't one. There are also links, including his attending pro-terrorist rallies which called for killing off Israelis.

  11. Ellison is also outspoken in favor of racial supremacy, and antisemitism in general. When asked in 1997 about probably the most famous antisemite in the US, Minister Farrakhan... a man who preaches the black people are the blessed master race, in favor of killing Jews and says Judaeism is a "gutter religion".... Ellison specifically said: " He is not a racist. He is also not an anti-Semite." He also is quick to speak before a wide variety of pro-Hamas, pro-terrorist, kill-the-Jews advocacy groups in the US aside from just CAIR.

Ellison has also specifically written in favor of the racist policy of "Reparations" (in which black people get a cash gift from the government just for being black) and also wrote in favor of carving out a pure-Black "homeland" in the US by expelling all non-blacks.

An outright racial supremacist and passionate supporter of the worst hatred going in the US today. See, there are worse people than Gohmert and Bachmann. He's probably worse than the average Tea Partier,
