One of my favorite classical Overtures. Enjoy, and for all you DADS out there Happy Father's Day Sunday!

  1. Every July 4th, the Boston Pops plays this at the Esplanade just before the fireworks show begins. It's a tradition started, I think, by Arthur Fiedler.

  2. I was always more of a Mussorgsky, Dvorak, and Smetana guy myself.

  3. Having sat 1'st chair in Jr. High and High School band and orchestra (1'st trumpet) I have an appreciation for Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, Schubert, as well as most accomplished composers of the classical era.

While I no longer play I enjoy partaking of the listening experienxe still. It is not surprizing I love jazz.

  4. A good piece to listen to in the car (if all you can get on radio is Rush) and since it commemorates the
victory over Napoleon, a good one to have on while you wade through 'War And Peace'. Me, I cannot resist an overture which is scored for artillery and ends in a celebratory cacophony of pealing bells!
