Legendary Led Zeppelin, Stairway to Heaven - Live...

LYRICS:

There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for
Ooh, ooh, and she's buying a stairway to heaven

There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure
'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings
In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misleading
Ooh, it makes me wonder
Ooh, it makes me wonder

There's a feeling I get when I look to the west
And my spirit is crying for leaving
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees
And the voices of those who stand looking
and it makes me wonder
really makes me wonder

And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long
And the forest will echo with laughter

GUITAR SOLO

If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now,
It's just a spring clean from the May Queen
Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on
Ooh, it makes me wonder
Ooh, Ooh, it makes me wonder

Your head is humming and it won't go, in case you don't know
The piper's calling you to join him
Dear lady, can't you hear the wind blow, and did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind

And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all is one and one is all, yeah
To be a rock and not to roll.

And she's buying the stairway to heaven

  1. Not a Led Zeppelin fan. I prefer the Neil Sedaka tune (released 11 years prior to Zep appropriating the song title). Anyway, I heard they stole the intro. One of the greatest rock songs of all time? Not in my opinion.

    That's informative, WD.

  3. Musically, I am getting again mesmerized by "Graceland". And I have rediscovered the "Return to Oz" soundtrack, something I hated when I first saw this strange and dreary movie. I've done a 180 on it.

  4. A true classic but I think that Jimmy Page is getting sued for basically stealing the song from his opening act. We'll just have to stay tuned I guess.

  7. In regards to a commenter above referring to the film "Return to Oz"... Even though the film score CD is out of print, it can be purchased at a reasonable price on Amazon. It is HIGHLY recommend by me, being my favorite film score. I like the movie quite a bit as well. A shame it isn't available on Blu-ray. Looks like the DVD is out of print as well, as it can only be purchased via the Marketplace (on Amazon). No, this movie did not do well upon it's initial release... and I think Disney would rather just forget about it.

  8. Commenter above above appreciates the comments above.

I was quite excited for this film, having seen some of the props and having met with and talked to producer Gary Kurtz about it shortly before it was released. But I remember when it came out, being disappointed in the soundtrack. And also the framing sequence. Even so, looking back on it, I like it better than the recent James Franco movie.

Stumbling upon the soundtrack again a few days ago, I found I loved it. Now I want to see the movie again.

  9. I liked the Franco movie. I didn't care for the score CD being $20 despite it not being a limited edition ($20 is the normal price point for a limited edition CD). Had to buy it anyway because the music is by one of my favorite composers. And I can't imagine being disappointed by David Shire's score. I liked it immediately and loved it after repeated listenings. I have never "met with" nor discussed anything with anyone involved in making either of these movies. A number of times the commenter above has named-dropped - which causes me to wonder where he meets these people. His profile says he lives in MI and not Hollywood.
