THE // INTERCEPT, a new launch O\online publication of First Look Media might just be the alternative to the MSM, including Fox News we've all been waiting for. With an impressive line up of journalists, including editors Glenn Greenwald, Jeremy Scahill, Laura Poitras THE // INTERCEPT is certainly a site to add to your favorites list to visit often.

A teaser from their welcome page today.

We are very excited to welcome everyone to The Intercept, a publication of First Look Media (FLM). The Intercept, which the three of us created, is the first of what will be numerous digital magazines published by FLM.

As soon as we resolved to build The Intercept, we set out to recruit many of the journalists whose work we have long respected and admired: those who have a proven track record of breaking boundaries, taking risks, and producing innovative, rigorous journalism.

We have assembled a team of experienced and independent journalists and editors (see our masthead here). Our central mission is to hold the most powerful governmental and corporate factions accountable, and to do so, we will report on a wide and varied range of issues.

Being able to work with highly accomplished writers like Liliana Segura, Dan Froomkin, Peter Maass and Marcy Wheeler, along with a team of young and aggressive reporters such as Murtaza Hussain, Ryan Gallagher and Ryan Devereaux, is truly emboldening. For our reporting, we have both technical expertise in the form of Micah Lee, and legal expertise from Daniel Novack. As our team grows, the ethos they embody of fearless, independent journalism is what will guide us.

The Intercept has a two-fold mission: one short-term, the other long-term.

  2. Never know what to expect from Greenwaldt, with his eclectic history. His site is bankrolled by
ambitious funding . Eclectic-wise, he was a strong support of Russ Feingold , the Wisconsin liberal.
(which should earn dmarks disapproval) :)

    1. BB: Even before reading RN's comment after this, and despite Feingold having some extreme views (such as wanting "abortion" to be forced on born US citizens), my immediate thought, and not to be rude to you, BB, is "so what?". I've often enjoyed columnists and pundits in the past, despite them liking politicians I didn't like. That has not changed. Besides, Feingold is now a has-been. And I'm sure Greenwaldt could find some politicians I have supported with extreme views, if he so chose to. I'm just not thinking in terms of absolutism, pure ideology here, BB.

To now echo RN, I say "bring him on". I look forward to this approach of "Eclectic", and no less so if it means it includes left-wing columnists.

I will readily admit, though, there are a few that would make me say "Nahhhh". Pat Buchanan tops the list. (Not thinking of any on the Left right now like that that really would turn me off, other than Molly Ivens who mistook Limbaugh-like taunts for wit, but she is not with us anymore).

    2. Russ Feingold is now in the private sector and not one of the "rulers" whose only goal is to accrue more power to the government... so I'd have thought Dennis would believe that to be an improvement... instead he bashes Feingold with the "has been" insult? Russ Feingold, by the way is still working (not moping at home while ruing his electoral loss). Feingold works as as college professor, has authored a book, and started a Progressive organization since leaving office.

It is Wisconsin's loss, IMO. The voters chose wrongly. And, before Dennis breaks out the "arrogant" insult, I should point out that no charges of arrogance were forthcoming from Dennis when his buddy Will insulted the voters.

    3. Bill Clinton, a man with many common human flaws, turned out to be an effective and relatively effective president.

He is "retired" yet remains active in different ways.. However, in regards to active government involvement he is a has been.

Be that as it may Feingold is basically as well as essentially a man of integrity. So, Derv (the Swerve) Sanders what do you have to say about that?

PS: Feingold remains FOS with respect to some things. But don't we all in someway, eh Swerve?

    4. RN: I have answered, I think, BB, concern/preconception. I'm willing to let go of any tilt toward "boilerplate" and give this a chance. I consider Greenwaldt's writings about a failed state politician several years ago to be no big deal.

As for Clinton vs Feingold concerning the "has been" idea, Clinton left office with head held high, having completed his two terms as planned. He was rather popular at the time he left. Very different: Russ Feingold left office after the voters rejected him... a lot earlier than he had planned.

Regardless, Mr. Dervish' intentionally false summary of what Will said on his blog, and his link to an irrelevant link does nothing but take us further afield into unimaginative "boilerplate" carrying-on. Nothing to do with Greenwaldt, or even BB's assessment of him. More on the line of a type of horse being saddled up again.

I'd be interested, however, in what BB has to say.

    5. Well put and good choice. BB Idaho, unlike Mr. Sanders always has cogent points and is always professional and respectful. We can all learn from BB Idaho. Especially Mr. Sanders.

    6. Dennis: ...intentionally false summary of what Will said on his blog...

I provided no summary. Will said "I do think that the American electorate is quite stupid and quite irrational...", and I ACCURATELY pointed out this is an insult. As for Russ Feingold, the voters were idiots to get rid of one of the country's best senators. Not only is this a loss for WI, but a loss for the country.

In regards to Greenwaldt, I've liked what he's had to say when he's appeared on Progressive shows, like The Young Turks. I don't know much about this Libertarian streak I've heard that he has, however. If he has any positive feelings about Ayn Rand that would certainly lower my opinion of him.

    7. Wow. What a tantrum. When Derve is caught lying, his reaction is to tell the same lie more stridently. The subject of supposed lie is not a matter to discuss here. Derve is free to discuss it on Will's blog or make a weeks worth of tempest-in-a-septic tank rants in his own blog.

Not that I am saying what RN will allow our not on this blog. I just know from experience that he has little patience with anyone attempting to bring a subject here simply because he didn't like how the discussion was going on another blog...and doing so with complete disregard for the subject at Rational Nation.

  3. I say bring him on. I'm down with eclectic, and in today's far to lockstep partisan world we need a lot of eclectic journalists AND politicians. IMNHO anyway.

  4. I just read a ranty forum at "Eclectic" containing a lot of anger over Greenwaldt. Apparently, he is an Ayn Rand worshipper and puppet of the Koch Brothers as well as supporting Russ Feingold.

I guess to make so many people so angry he must be doing something right...

  5. Have a link to said ranty forum? Inquiring minds want to know.

  6. No luck finding it. I was pretty sure it was a page inside Eclectic! But not finding the same thing again.

  7. He might be a pinko but I've developed a great deal of respect for Jeremy Scahill. The fellow is one of the very few progressives who's consistently taken Obama to task for his foreign policy, treatment of the media (even going as far as to defend Fox News's James Rosen), and borderline imperial Presidency and, so, yeah, I just might give this thing a look.
