Zimmerman In The News Again...

Liberty -vs- Tyranny

Zimmerman, 30, is the former Neighborhood Watch volunteer who was acquitted in July on a charge that he murdered 17-year-old Trayvon Martin last year.

So, here we are. George Zimmerman AGAIN involved in inappropriate and what could have been AGAIN deadly activity. Is this man just dumb, or is he mentally unstable, and severely so?

Trayvon Martin is dead from a gunshot fired by George Zimmerman. Zimmerman is in custody following a domestic dispute with Samantha Scheibe before allegedly pointing a shotgun at her head and asking her if she really wanted to call the police.

Is anybody else thinking maybe society should lock the dude up and throw away the keys this time?

Orlando Sentinel - George Zimmerman was arrested on domestic violence charges Monday after pointing a shotgun at his girlfriend, breaking a table and pushing her out of her Seminole County home, deputies said.

Zimmerman is being held without bail at the Seminole County Jail, charged with aggravated assault with a weapon — a felony — domestic violence battery and criminal mischief.

Deputies received a call from 27-year-old Samantha Scheibe around 12:30 p.m. Monday and when they responded to the home three minutes later, Zimmerman was there and was not armed

Zimmerman was arrested and booked, said Chief Deputy Dennis Lemma of the Seminole County Sheriff's Office.

Lemma said Scheibe told deputies that Zimmerman pointed a shotgun at her Scheibe. He also broke a table, pushed her out of the home and barricaded the door with furniture.

Zimmerman offered no resistance when he was taken into custody, Lemma said. Scheibe did not suffer any injuries, he said.

"She was concerned for her safety, certainly from having the weapon pointed at her," Lemma said.

According to an arrest report released late Monday, Schibe called police after she and Zimmerman got into a "verbal dispute," at her home on Topfield Court in western Seminole County. She asked Zimmerman to leave, and he "began packing his items, which included a Shotgun and a AR Assault Rifle," the report said.

When Scheibe told Zimmerman that she was calling the police, he pointed the shotgun at her "and asked her if she really wanted to do that," according to the report.

Lemma said that if a judge decides to grant Zimmerman bond, the Sheriff's Office has asked that he be placed on electronic monitoring.

"This is an additional step we ask for in every domestic violence case in Seminole County," Lemma said.

Lemma said deputies are seeking a search warrant so they can gain entry into the home, where he said Zimmerman and Scheibe appear to have been living together for several months. {Read More}

Perhaps one shouldn't jump the gun (pun intended)and pass judgement, however given his past and what the nation knows about this guy it is certainly hard not to.

  1. "Is this man just dumb, or is he mentally unstable, and severely so?"

All of the above. And may I remind folks that the extremists on the right fell over themselves defending this thug.

    Where are his cheerleaders now?

Old saying: "The truth will out."

  2. I know Shaw. While you and I differed on whether it was murder (your position) or manslaughter (mine) it now makes me wonder who was right at the time.

I still believe the reason he was acquitted is the fault of the DA. Had he been charged with manslauter and the prosecution had been more competent Zimmerman would be where he belongs, behind bars.

  3. All of the forensic evidence supported Zimmerman's version of events in the Trayvon tragedy and so, yes, to that extent, I defended him. If the evidence goes against him this time, I will criticize him. It is entirely a case by case thing with me as I eschew all systematizing and prejudged narratives and avoid them.

    1. True. As it should be.

Unfortunate as it is mistakes happen. As they did as I described in my prior comment.

  5. RN, to set the record straight. I never accused Zimmerman of "murder." That's legal charge, a criminal legal charge. What I did say, again and again, and what is true is that George Zimmerman KILLED Trayvon Martin. There's a difference. I NEVER called it murder. Just to keep the record clear.

  6. I will give you credit for keeping an open mind, RN. And for being willing to change your position. But it was interesting how your right-leaning friends quickly convinced you to go against your gut feeling. As far as manslaughter vs. murder, my guess was just about any murder trial can result in a manslaughter conviction. Of course, I am generalizing. In this case, my guess was correct. From the CNN web article.

    The decision

The jury had three choices: to find Zimmerman guilty of second-degree murder; to find him guilty of a lesser charge of manslaughter; or to find him not guilty.

Personally, I feel the murder charge was a better fit. Manslaughter to me suggests criminal negligence or some type of avoidable accident. The obvious example being vehicular manslaughter.

  7. I have no idea what you are talking about FJ. My position has been consistent. I am not influenced by "my right leaning friends."

After reviewing videos and articles here's what I came away with...

      Zimmerman is modern vigilante.

Travon was unarmed, non threatening, and posed no reason for concern.

The police dispatcher advised Zimmerman NOT to follow Travon. He ignored the police.

People heard Travon in what could only be construed as pleading (or fear) for his life immediately prior to the gunshot.

Zimmerman it would appear is guilty of 1'st degree murder.

Zimmerman should be behind bars waiting arraignment. A swift and speedy, as well as just trial should follow.

Like I say, it is interesting. I think we all can be influenced by the opinions of others. Why else would we even be blogging?

    2. Ah yes, I remember the comment. Written in the heat of the moment. Then calmer thoughts and further info resulted in my ultimate position. If he would have been charged with manslaughter I believe he would be behind bars today serving time for the death of Martin. But hey, I'm no attorney or judge.

I am becoming more ambivalent about the state of things everyday actually. I used to believe there was an outside chance that humans could learn from history, no longer.

  8. You certainly are entitled to your opinion murder was the better fit. I continue to disagree but understand why you chose your position even as I think it in error.
