Marco Rubio and Unrelated Issues, His Lack Of Understanding With Respect To Rational Self (and National) Interest...

Liberty -vs- Tyranny

Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL)

I am getting more amused every day by the loonies that constitute the Tea Party faction of the Republican Party. Being an advocates of exercising rational self interest in all thing I cannot help by marvel at Senator Marco Rubio's remarks on FOX News this Sunday. Certainly his remarks don't sound much like concern for rational self interest. Of course this is based on the belief comprehensive immigration reform is in everyone's rational self interest.

But maybe it's just me.

Via Memeorandum.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) suggested on Sunday that President Obama’s refusal to compromise with Republicans on Obamacare to re-open the government and raise the nation’s debt ceiling has jeopardized the chances of passing comprehensive immigration reform.

“I think immigration reform is harder to achieve today an it was three weeks ago because of what happened here,” the first-term senator said during an appearance on Fox News Sunday, before agreeing with opponents of immigration reform who warn that that the Obama administration will simply fail to enforce border security or other aspects of a bill he disagrees with.

“The president has undermined this effort, absolutely, because of the way he has behaved over the last three weeks,” Rubio added. “This notion that they’re going to get in a room and negotiate a deal with the president on immigration is much more difficult to do…because of the way the president has behaved towards his opponents over the last three weeks.” {Read More}

This sounds more like sour grapes and a United States Senator acting like a spoiled child than it does looking out four our nations rational self interests.

  1. I'm not sure what the rational national interest is with regard to immigration, but I agree Rubio is not helping anything or anyone, especially the GOP. Just more simpleminded Tea Party whining.

    1. I read the dude actually did well in college and was considered among the brightest.

Intellegence does not relate to much when it comes to some. Cruz is A good example of that.

  2. The guy is a clown who's existence is only to say whatever crap he thinks the people that can do him good, voters, Senator McCain or Sarah Palin, etc. want to hear. He is the bitch of the tea party and people like Grover Norquist.

  3. I feel bad for Rubio. I think he's far smarter and better a person than he often portrays as a Senator. Unlike Ted Cruz, I think Rubio feels bad about what he's being asked to do and say. He always seems terribly uncomfortable when he squawks propaganda.. Get him talking about something in a non-partisan way, and he can be quite refreshing. In another time, Rubio could have been a bridge to the Middle like a Ronald Reagan or Dwight Eisenhower. Instead, he's the sleazy right's marionette token. He needs to break from that. Twenty years from now, the Tea Party will be a memory - and an unpleasant one. He has to think about his future, and his country's.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not a fan of his politics. But I think he could actually help things and it's depressing to see him wasting that opportunity. Chris Christie helped things, a little. I wish the GOP would just at least try to reach out to more people, and not in a sleazy token way. The Right is just breaking away these days.

  4. Well Joe, you certainly are on to something there. No doubt about it.

But you know of course every political party or movement of any consequence has their "bitch."

  5. Well jmj, while I don't agree with much of your politics I find nothing to disagree with in your comment just above.

Other than I don't know exactly why you feel bad for Rubio. He's a big boy freely making the choices he makes.

  6. I think he felt he could bring some respectability to his cause, only to be sucked up by it's unrespectable vortex.
