It Just Makes Common Sense... To The Rational Thinking Anyway

RALEIGH — Gov. Pat McCrory Monday signed into law a bill requiring voters to produce a photo ID when they go to the polls, a measure that was hailed by Republicans as a means for heightening ballot security but which was criticized by Democrats as a thinly disguised effort at voter suppression.

The measure signed by McCrory also reduces the early voting period by a week, ends early voting on Sunday, ends same-day voter registration, and does away with pre-registration of 16 and 17-year olds.

“North Carolinians overwhelmingly support a common sense law that requires voters to present photo identification in order to cast a ballot,” McCrory said in a statement. “I am proud to sign this legislation into law. Common practices like boarding an airplane and purchasing Sudafed require photo ID and we should expect nothing less for the protection of our right to vote.” {Read More}

Only the far left, those with a political agenda beyond reasoned thought oppose this common sense law.

    1. Spoken like the true blazing idiot that you apparently are jmj. A bold blanket hate filled progressive line of serial bullshit for whkch you have absolutely no proof of.

Why don't you go join the progressive crap fest with the other lying progressives over at the wd/DS/BS/Anon blog?

    2. "Only a racist would support this bill."

Huh? This law has absolutely nothing to do with race. Getting tired of saying "you can do better". With the earlier comments in which you made silly assertions about trade/etc, all that comes from you is like grunts and whistles.

Les, does he even have it in him anymore? The power to surprise with the wisdom of a point-of-view that is not knee-jerk campaign boilerplate?

    3. Ya know dmarks I am starting to think it isn't just jmj I actually see the same knee jerk emotional reaction from most of the left I have seen in many on the right. Steeped in nothing but partisan BS they have trouble connecting the dots. Most unfortunate for the USA.

  2. Oh, c'mon Les. You what all this law encompasses. It's "rational" alright, if you think blacks and poor people shouldn't be voting. (Here and I thought you were mocking the law!)

    1. Your comment is indeed irrational as requiring a picture ID to vote is non discriminatory, has now affect on a lawful citizens ability to cast his/her ballot black poor or otherwise in any way.

As usual jmj you (and likely the rest of the progressive cabal) resort to the charge of racism and disdain for the poor. Totally unfounded and nothing but BS.

    2. Indeed irrational, as the law has absolutely nothing to do with black or white or rich and poor.

  3. I put forth a compromise about a year ago. Instead of mandating that everybody have a picture ID, have people give the last 4 digits of their SS#. If it comes back legit, then they can vote. And in the mean-time, have all new voters picture IDd at registration.

  4. Can anyone explain why eliminating more days for voting is a good thing?

    1. Well Shaw, off the top, without the mechanism requiring individuals at the polls (yes regardless of ethnic, racial, socioeconomic background) to verify their citizenship and right to vote) reducing the days would have a marginal POSITIVE effect on voter fraud. Which by the way disenfranchises legitimate citizens exercising their RIGHT to cast a ballot.

It is not unreasonable IMNHO or discriminatory to require a person verify they have a legal right to vote in local, state, and national elections by way of being a legal citizen of this great republic of ours.

Now, one only needs one day to cast a ballot, the day of the election. For those folks who are in the service, out of town on business or vacation, attending to sick relatives out of town for a known extended period of time, there is the absentee ballot. It works well if one chooses to use it when necessary. Any problems with fraud here, well, work out the bugs causing the problems.

For circumstances that occur, and they will last minute, I believe there should be an additional two weeks period in which a legal resident taken out of town due to an unexpected emergency be able to cast a ballot up to the end of that two week period providing they meet the photo ID and citizenship requirement, AND provides verifiable proof of their unexpected emergency.

On;y those with nefarious reasons of their own would find these requirements unreasonable or discriminatory IMNHO.

The problem with the left is they chose not to provide any suggested solutions to this problem, yet many, as jmj did on this thread, will Scream RACISM because it fits their myopic template and view of reasonable and non discriminatory practices.

  5. So far, absolutely nothing from the leftists who oppose effectively reducing voter fraud. Jersey's claims are hardly an argument, as worthwhile as grunts and whistles (mere preposterous claims that the policy is a certain way not out of evidence, but out of a gut feeling).

Not even the very weak argument by the voter fraud lobby that the amount of voter fraud is low, so it should be allowed. (which, among its many problems, ignores the fact that there are elections decided by very few votes: Bush 2000 comes to mind, and a nearby US Congressional republican primary in which the 2nd most popular candidate lost by just one vote).

Or the weak arguments by the passionate defenders of the election fraud crimes of the ACORN organization, which attempts to set aside types of election fraud (false divisions) concerning making up fake voters, and argues that this too is OK since it does not happen at the actual time of the election, even though this earlier fraud impacts the election.

If any level of voter/election fraud is acceptable, democracy is damaged.

    1. It makes sense to the reasonable. So therefore, according to jmj, you (as well as all the rest of us) must be a Raaaaacist!

    2. When they ain't got a thing the first thing people like jmj do is holler Raaaaacism. Guess they're too dumb to understand it lessens the meaning of racism and reduces the impact when and where real racism exists.

  6. Disenfranchising Black voters IS "real racism".
