Liberty -vs- Tyranny

Perhaps this was just a bit over the top. But kinda funny nonetheless. Beside, political caricatures and comedy have been around a very long time. But this is President Obama and therefore requires a greater degree of sensitivity.

AP - A clown wearing a President Barack Obama mask appeared at a Missouri State Fair rodeo this weekend and the announcer asked the enthusiastic spectators if they wanted to see "Obama run down by a bull."

The antics led the state's second highest-ranking official, Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder, to denounce the performance in a tweet Sunday. He said it was "disrespectful" to the president.

"We are better than this," the Republican tweeted.

State Fair officials said the show in Sedalia was "inappropriate" and "does not reflect the opinions or standards" of the fair. "We strive to be a family friendly event and regret that Saturday's rodeo badly missed that mark," they said in a statement Sunday.

It wasn't clear if any action will be taken against the performers. {Read More}

Wondering what the reaction would have been from the left had it been a Bush mask. Just sayin given the enunciated and immense hatred the left has for GWB.

  2. I still have my Nixon mask from the '70s and even wore it a Halloween or 2 ago. Like the dude in the article says, it comes with the territory.

    1. Indeed it does Will, indeed it does.

    2. Honestly, Les, at this point, I see Obama as only marginally less buffoonish than Bush and neither of them as admirable (as opposed to Truman, Ike, Cleveland, and a handful of others).

    3. Yeah, I agree. I'd add Kennedy, Ford, Reagan, and Coolidge to the list.

    4. Did I mention Jefferson, Madison, and Washington?

    5. Les, if you base a President's record on the level of peace, prosperity, and liberty that the country had during his tenure, Silent Cal would definitely be up there, possibly in the to 5.

Let's check the peace one. Coolidge was President from 1923 to 1929.

Checking the List of Wars involving the US, the only instances I can find are the ongoing long-term occupations of a few Middle American countries, one of which ended quite early in his Presidency.

Relatively, Coolidge was a President of peace. We all know about Bush. But comparing Coolidge to Clinton? Clinton comes out warlike (engaging in a long-term expensive war against Iraq that lacked only ground troops) and choosing to initiate American hostilities and send troops into harms way and go to war in 3 different Balkan nations.

Obama does not come across well, either. Instead of quickly ending the two wars he inherited (easy enough for him to do), he kept them going for quite some time, even accelerating one of them. He also started a new war, and might be starting yet another.

    7. As Nick Gillespie of "Reason" magazine has stated on several occasions, "Obama is a warrior, and in a very bad way."

  3. Well, it sure fits the snobby, upper-crust humor of a rodeo.

  4. So, have any hardline leftists come forward with claims that this is racist, and that rodeo-clown is some sort of a code word or dog whistle used in typical anti-black racism?

  5. Apparently they were playing with the masks' lips and that made some people uncomfortable. Other than that, the whole thing just came off low-brow and made "Country" Americans look a little bad. I'm just surprised this was a surprise to anyone. It's a rodeo, not a wine tasting. Nothing wrong with either, but I wouldn't get the two confused!

  6. The tight assed left just needs to put a down payment on a sense of humor. Stop seeing a racist behind every tree.

Its a rodeo clown.....its not blackface with white gloves......christ,they did'nt even put him in a barrel.....or over one.

  7. Rusty: It's a diversionary tactic. This rodeo clown with an Obama face is quite harmless. It's the other clown with the Obama face in the White House that is of concern.
