Socon rEpublicans Proving Yet Again...

Liberty -vs- Tyranny

Call me stupid if you like. But the looney tune (IMNHO) Georgia "top rEpublican" Sue Everhart, chairwoman of the Georgia Republican Party lives in a totally different reality than any sane rational person.

But then again stepping back and thinking about it... Sane and rational is NOT something the present day rEpublican party is into. Fear mongering, yes. Power, yes. Control of the lives of the individual, yes.

This inanity from what's her name? Oh yeah, Sue Everhart is the final straw for this independent Classical Liberal and Objectivist who REFUSES to be lead around by ignorant and clueless collectivists. Which by the way folks is something this Classical Liberal, Objectivist, and fiercely individualistic liberty loving person has grown to recognize is precisely what identifies the rEpublican party as well as the current state of conservatism.

Here then is the article that elicited my ire. Willful ignorance really sets me off. Sorry all you collectivist conservatives that march in lockstep to the insanity of the unthinking.

TPM - A top Republican in Georgia has sounded an ominous warning that legalization of same-sex marriage may also lead to fraud.

Sue Everhart, chairwoman of the Georgia Republican Party, told the Marietta Daily Journal in a story published Saturday that once gay nuptials are legally permitted, there will be nothing to stop a straight person from exploiting the system in order to claim marital benefits.

“You may be as straight as an arrow, and you may have a friend that is as straight as an arrow,” Everhart said. “Say you had a great job with the government where you had this wonderful health plan. I mean, what would prohibit you from saying that you’re gay, and y’all get married and still live as separate, but you get all the benefits? I just see so much abuse in this it’s unreal. I believe a husband and a wife should be a man and a woman, the benefits should be for a man and a woman. There is no way that this is about equality. To me, it’s all about a free ride.”

Everhart also expressed a distaste for homosexuality, which she argued is unnatural.

“Lord, I’m going to get in trouble over this, but it is not natural for two women or two men to be married,” Everhart said. “If it was natural, they would have the equipment to have a sexual relationship.”

Brian Keahl, executive director of the Georgia GOP, told TPM on Monday that he hadn't seen Everhart's comments and would have to confer with the chairwoman before commenting. When TPM followed up later in the morning, a man at the Georgia GOP said the group has "no comment at this time" before refusing to provide his name and hanging up.

Yes Ms. Everhart, you are in trouble. For reasons you will NEVER understand. But then again I'm sure you really don't care, do you?

  1. This is the inevitable outcome of government confiscating our money and our rights, throwing them in a pile, and then doling them back out to us.

If government granted no special privileges based upon marital status, this wouldn't even be an issue.

Only libertarianism can save us from the clanking bipartisan progressive monstrosity that eats all in its path and leaves nothing but great clods of manure in its wake.

    2. I don't understand the criticism. This is the system we voted for, and she is expressing her opinion in the effort to craft laws that accord with her beliefs and those of her constituents.

As I said, when we put liberty to vote, this is the result

  3. There will always be people who feel threatened by giving constitutionally guaranteed rights to people they do not understand and fear.

Apparently this woman is so naive that she doesn't know that straights have been scamming the hetero marriage system for tax breaks forever! I don't know what the percentages are, or even if data are collected on this sort of scam. But I'm pretty sure it's an infinitesimal amount, and that if gays engage in it, that would be even more infinitesimal--compared with what we spend on defense, for example. She's worried about losing revenue THAT way? Duh!

The woman is probably enraged that people who have traditionally been scorned by religions and cultures are now going to be on equal footing with straight people vis-a-vis marriage.

I have some empathy for those people who are convinced that somehow the universe will now collapse in on itself once teh gaii are allowed to marry. However, in a few billion years, our local star will become a red giant then a white dwarf, and the solar system, including our blue/green planet and all of us enraged humans, will vaporize.

But here's what puzzles me: Those who are religious actually believe that an entity that could have created this vast, complicated, and magnificent universe--or possibly multiverses, would concern itself with how we little insignificant nothings on an insignificant rock in an insignificant solar system in an insignificant galaxy interact with each other's naughty parts. But I have to accept that people believe that such an entity made some rules about how some mammals on this third rock from this average to sub-average star should enjoy each other's sex parts.

It's all so complicated and silly because those people know in the deepest part of their humanity that people, whether they're two man mammals or two women mammals--those two people, a minority, who share their bodies and lives with each other have absolutely no impact on those human mammals who share their bodies and lives with man and woman mammals. This is a simple truth, but it will take more time for it to sink into certain reptilian brains.

That unfortunate woman is one of them.

    1. It is indeed puzzling, this whole preoccupation with issues of little importance in the grand scheme of humanity.

I believe this issue will take a couple more generations before fear leaves the fearful. As the acceptance for equal footing for gay couples continue to grow today's and tomorrow's youth will hopefully close another chapter in the book of bigotry and discrimination.

In all honesty Shaw this should be an issue that "liberty" loving rEpublicans and Libertarians across the nation should have been in the forefront on.

Labels (particularly political ones) get in the way as they often do not accurately describe realities. I suppose the challenge is seeing through "the smoke and mirrors."

On a different note you might want to take a stroll over to WD's blog. I hear through the grapevine he's got the "real scoop" on this sight posted over there. I'm just to busy (as well as not giving a damn) to take a stroll over myself.

      For the "argument" was...

      DOD Budget in 2013... $613B

      from the Tax Policy Center

Marriage penalty relief is costly. TPC estimates that extending the marriage penalty reductions from their scheduled sunset in 2010 through 2017 would cost more than $130 billion in tax revenue. Much of the cost results from raising marriage bonuses.

Granted that gays now would qualify for 2-3% of that $130b total, the amount is "hardly" infinitesimally small"

Besides... aren't Democrats only FOR Tax INCREASES (since all tax deductions seem to fall into the category of "scams"?
