Louie Gohmert - One Scary Idiot
As it goes Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) is one slightly unbalanced and therefore rather disturbing individual. His "way out in left field" claim that President Obama's administration has Muslim Brotherhood members is, IMNHO opinion based on one of two things. The fact "good ole Louie" is incapable of accepting we have a mixed race President, or he is simply stirring the pot of fear. Much like Senator McCarthy did in a bygone era.

In either case he is doing a great disservice to the American public. As a fiscally conservative social Libertarian I challenge the fear mongering right to provide some significant evidence in support of the delusions they would have us all accept as factual reality.

TPM - Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) went after the Obama administration's handling of the Boston Marathon bombing investigation in a radio interview Thursday -- and along the way he claimed that Muslim Brotherhood members are in the administration and influencing its decisions.

"It's very clear to everybody but this administration that radical Islam is at war against us," Gohmert told WND Radio. "And I’m hoping either this administration will wake up or a new one will come in at the next election before irreparable damage is done. Because radical Islam is at war with us. Thank God for the moderates who don't approve of what's being done. But this administration has so many Muslim Brotherhood members that have influence that they just are making wrong decisions for America.”

Gohmert cited the Benghazi attack, Algeria hostage crisis and the recent Boston Marathon bombings as examples of the administration's pattern of incompetence. One of the Boston bombing suspects, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, was added to two U.S. government watch lists, according to the New York Times. He was also interviewed by the FBI, but was ultimately cleared of any suspected connections to extremist groups.

Gohmert isn't the first Republican to claim that members of the Muslim Brotherhood have infiltrated the U.S. government. Back in July 2012, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) led the charge, pointing a finger at top Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin. Bachmann's accusations were widely condemned at the time.

Note the "news source" Louie Gohmert is using for his avenue of distorted reality. Nuff said?

  1. Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) is one slightly unbalanced and therefore rather disturbing individual.

You just described 90% of all DC politicians. It's the ones who appear sane and reasonable who are the real danger.

You are right to run from such sources as World Nut Daily, but be careful not to run into the arms of the leftwing nut house, of which TPM is member.

Here is a better representation of what Gohmert believes. It is from conservative Daily Caller, but they ask him a direct question, and then a direct follow-up, and they print his entire answer and you can see it in context:

    Daily Caller - Gohmert Interview

Gohmert's contention is still highly debatable, but at least DC gives us the whole picture.

Operatic bloviators of the Leftwing Echo Chamber who scream and point at anyone to their right and paint horns on their enemies do as much or even more harm than WND. Notice how much time the leftwing founts spew hatred and opprobrium on their enemies, and how little time they spend on their ideas and philosophy?

      1) There is no possibility of me running into anyone's arms. Left or Right.

      2) I have listened to insane Louie several times, as well as reading several articles. The dude is NUTS. He fits well with World Net (Nuts) Daily.

      3) Louie is the Pelosi of the Right. Guess that strikes a negation wouldn't you agree?

      4) Both the radicalized left AND right spread hate as well as fear. The sane have better things to occupy their time. Like looking for reasonable and workable solutions that create the least damage to liberties and the people generally can accept.

      5) I do not often use TPM. In this instance I felt it appropriate.

  2. Q: Now when you say “support the Muslim Brotherhood” do you mean they have the same goals of the Muslim Brotherhood or that they think the Muslim Brotherhood is a moderate force?

Gohmert: No, I will say based on the findings of the Dallas Federal Court and the Fifth Circuit of Appeals, the two largest front groups for the Muslim Brotherhood are ISNA, the Islamic Society of North America, and CAIR, Council on American-Islamic Relations. And people from ISNA, like the President Imam [Mohamed] Magid, has access to him. He had access in the State Department and Justice Department. And it appears that he is pretty much welcome most places. Helped the FBI supposedly with their redirection. So you have people like that who are actual members of organizations that federal courts have said are the largest Muslim Brotherhood front organizations in America. So it’s not me saying it, it’s the federal courts.

Q: But you think they are significant influencers of Obama’s foreign policy — not just peripheral figures? I mean, do you think these are the people President Obama is relying on to shape his foreign policy?

Gohmert: I think it’s born out that this administration believes that the best advice they can get on how to deal with radical Islam is to listen to people who happen to be in or have ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. And it’s just not right.

    ******************

People who may have ties to the Muslim Brotherhood sometimes visit the White House. That is quite a stretch on his part, but he clearly explains his reasons for believing it. And it's not quite as nutty as TPM and other leftwing hooting loonies would have you believe. And the picture is also over the top, meant to plant in the reader's mind that Gohmert is crazy, and therefore beyond the pale and not worthy of dialog.

The picture becomes clearer when you use two eyes instead of just one. It becomes clearer yet, when you understand that everyone involved has their own agendas and motives.

I've noticed how you ignore this, but complain about leftwing "founts" of hatred.

And I've also noticed this treatise on the "ideas and philosophy" of a movie star, someone you and other rightwingers detest because he made a silly video that you disagreed with!

I have to chuckle at SF's feelings of superiority where it concerns his rightwing brethern. Talk about having blinders on. He hasn't the ability to see the other side of the coin where rightwing screamers and bloviaters reside. It's only when lefties engage in it that it becomes a mortal sin of epic proportions and earns his, ahem, screaming disapprobation.

    Really.

BTW, TPM is a well-respected political news site that has won prizes and honors, including the prestigious Polk Award.

The Daily Caller, OTOH, ran Tucker Carlson's lurid and false piece on Senator Menendez. Which resulted in this:

"A drawn-out saga has ensued, though the Daily Caller has had trouble validating its claims. The New York Times and ABC News declined to publish the story, citing a lack of credible evidence. Meanwhile, an FBI investigation found no evidence to suggest Menendez had acted inappropriately."

Wow, Shaw. Interesting on the Daily Caller and Tucker Carlson. This is one of those times I learn and find out something from you other than just learning what the Left thinks. Well, I never liked Carlson anyway. He looked like an idiot with that bowtie, which he wore to look cute somehow, but it made him look like a buffoon.

  4. RN, I applaud your statement.

Bring on the criticism for President Obama's policies. That is fair. Implying that President Obama is working to bring Sharia Law on the US, or that the Muslim Brotherhood is infiltrating the US Government is pure bunk. It stinks of McCarthyism. And those who deal in that sort of character assassination deserve nothing but contempt.

" “We do not have a crisis at Freddie Mac, and particularly Fannie Mae, under the outstanding leadership of Frank Raines.”"

That's it, Maxine. A government employee personally plundering the treasury for more than a $20 million dollar salary while at the same time he promotes the policies which crashed the US economy is a big hero of yours, and there's nothing to see here, move along.

You illustrate beautifully how the left cannot stay on topic, and instead must stray into digressions concerning the actions of others.

I merely put Gohmert's comments in context, nothing more. Personally, I think he's stretching it, but the left's demonization, which has replaced the old tactic of marching people off to insane asylums, obfuscates and confuses the issues at hand rather than clarifying them.

  7. Americas Bright FutureSat Apr 27, 03:41:00 PM EDT

Americans have obviously lost their common sense. When statements like, " Implying that President Obama is working to bring Sharia Law on the US, or that the Muslim Brotherhood is infiltrating the US Government" and worse become accepted debate points, it's all over and only a matter of time until America collapses. If you have hope for the younger generation, forget it, they have been either indoctrinated, or care nothing about politics and government.

My statements on the DC and the way they report was in direct answer to your claim that TPM, from which RN found this text, is a nut house. That deserved an answer because it is so gawdawful untrue.

And please, SF, take a look at the contents of rightwing blogs when it comes to "demonization" tactics. When you make wild statements like you do in your last paragraph @01:59, they deserve to be rebutted.

  9. From Politico 4/4/2012:

"White House officials note that engagement with the Muslim Brotherhood is not a departure in policy, and previous administrations have met with Brotherhood members of Parliament. Further, the Obama administration's U.S. ambassador and State Department officials have met with members of the group.

"The meeting Tuesday with working-level [national security staff] officials is just one in a series of meetings between US officials, members of Congress, and representatives of the Muslim Brotherhood," Vietor said. "Senators Lindsey Graham, John McCain, and others have met with members of the MB during their visits to Egypt, and US officials, as part of their routine diplomatic outreach, continue to meet with representatives as well."

And this from The New Republic, March 2011:

"In 2004, Nakhleh, a Palestinian-American Christian who was born in Nazareth, founded the CIA’s Political Islam Strategic Analysis Program, which quietly reached out to Islamists. By Nakhleh’s own account, he has visited more than 30 countries through the years and interviewed hundreds if not thousands of Islamists—moderates, radicals, sympathizers of the Taliban, and members of the Muslim Brotherhood. In his meetings with various Islamists, Nakhleh says he was most often asked why the United States supports regimes that repress Islamist parties. “The regimes were the top issue,” he says.

Some in the Bush administration agreed that the United States needed more contact with these groups. After the 2005 Egyptian elections, in which Brotherhood-affiliated candidates won 88 seats in the national assembly, the U.S. Embassy began to reach out to the new parliamentarians. “The Muslim Brotherhood was illegal in Egypt, but certain parliamentarians who were connected to the Muslim Brotherhood were, we felt, worth talking to,” says Elliott Abrams, who was a deputy national security adviser."

Apparently Gohmert is ignorant of normal outreach programs to Islamist groups that have been going on since 1979, according to the TNR article.

    SOURCE

It was an easy cheap shot on Gohmert's part to imply that something nefarious, instead of routine, was going on in the Obama administration. That implication played neatly into the GOP paranoia and its suspicions around President Obama's "secret Muslim faith."

Shame on Gohmert and his McCarty-like innuendos.

He took a crap on a dead guy who, while, yeah, the dude supported gun rights (much more than I do, FYI), he also served his country during WW2, marched with Martin Luther King, and was a strong supporter of Bobby Kennedy. He also starred some of the greatest motion pictures ever made; Ben Hur, The Agony and the Ecstasy, The Big Country, El Cid, The Greatest Show on Earth, Touch of Evil, The Ten Commandments. For the idiot who gave us Ace Ventura, Pet Detective and Dumb and Dumber to even imply that Mr. Heston's movies are irrelevant is well beyond despicable to me.......That and he (an individual marginally more intelligent than Sean Hannity) totally made fun of rural people, too (I'm sorry but I'm not a big fan of castigating entire segments of the populace).

  15. Will: Someone is either racist, or they are not. RN said "The fact 'good ole Louie' is incapable of accepting we have a mixed race President..." and that is pretty definitive. And it thus remains close to the "any criticism of Obama is because of his race, regardless of the nature and subject of the criticism" meme. Given the lack of evidence to the contrary.... so far.

Not to defend someone as odious as Gohmert, but if there's an accusation of racism, it is only "rational" that there be a reason for it.

    3) By bringing up the Mexican thing, Jersey, it appears that you don't even find the case that the guy is racist against Obama worth defending whatsoever.

    4) The robes thing? Are you talking about the great liberal senator Robert Byrd? You went far afield. All I ask for, and Silverfiddle as well, is evidence to back up the claims here. There is no problem with refusal to "understand or accept" from me, and probably Silver Fiddle also, as you have given absolutely nothing for us to accept or understand.

You are standing by a "belief" which has no basis in fact. None that you can find. One can only guess why you are being faith-based instead of rational. Are you borrowing a page from religouus "apologetics"? Perhaps you have given in to the "every criticism of Obama is racial" meme?

In any case, I find little integrity in Gohmert. Your claim that I see him as an "example of integrity" merely because I like to see evidence for strong accusations of racism (regardless of who is being accused) isn't rational either. Yes he does, and I provided it by quoting his own words. He draws a connection between groups here in the US and the Muslim Brotherhood. Some members of these groups have been to the White House. That is a logical chain.

Now, as I said earlier, I believe it to be a stretch, but this flies in the face of your claims of "no tangible..." and "baseless claims."

He provided tangible reasons, based upon a court ruling, and has indeed provided a basis for what he said.

No rational reading could conclude otherwise.
