Wayne Lapierre and the NRA, More Hyperbole and Spreadin the Fear...

Is it just me or is anyone else tiring of the seemingly never ending drone of guys like LaPierre and Nugent? Mostly they are just blowing smoke and trying their damnedest to spread fear with all their hyperbolic, please forgive me, bullshit. We all understand you guys despise the President, but at least try and use some intelligence, commonsense, and cut the BS about how the sky is falling on our second amendment rights all because Obama is a commie and has no greater desire than to strip us of our liberties. The dude might me a lot of things but just in case you've failed to notice in many ways he's not all that different than any other mainstream politician and leader. I suppose I have most likely wasted the keystrokes, but at least I got it off my chest.

By Wayne LaPierre - Before I tell you how the NRA and our members are going to Stand And Fight politically and in the courts, let’s acknowledge that all over this country, tens of millions of Americans are already preparing to Stand And Fight to protect their families and homes.

These good Americans are prudently getting ready to protect themselves.

It has always been sensible for good citizens to own and carry firearms for lawful protection against violent criminals who prey on decent people.

During the second Obama term, however, additional threats are growing. Latin American drug gangs have invaded every city of significant size in the United States. Phoenix is already one of the kidnapping capitals of the world, and though the states on the U.S./Mexico border may be the first places in the nation to suffer from cartel violence, by no means are they the last.

The president flagrantly defies the 2006 federal law ordering the construction of a secure border fence along the entire Mexican border. So the border today remains porous not only to people seeking jobs in the U.S., but to criminals whose jobs are murder, rape, robbery and kidnapping. Ominously, the border also remains open to agents of al Qaeda and other terrorist organizations. Numerous intelligence sources have confirmed that foreign terrorists have identified the southern U.S. border as their path of entry into the country.

When the next terrorist attack comes, the Obama administration won’t accept responsibility. Instead, it will do what it does every time: blame a scapegoat and count on Obama’s “mainstream” media enablers to go along.

A heinous act of mass murder—either by terrorists or by some psychotic who should have been locked up long ago—will be the pretext to unleash a tsunami of Gun Control.

No wonder Americans are buying guns in record numbers right now, while they still can and before their choice about which firearm is right for their family is taken away forever.

After Hurricane Sandy, we saw the hellish world that the gun prohibitionists see as their utopia. Looters ran wild in south Brooklyn. There was no food, water or electricity. And if you wanted to walk several miles to get supplies, you better get back before dark, or you might not get home at all.

Anti-gun New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg had already done everything he could to prevent law-abiding New Yorkers from owning guns, and he has made sure that no ordinary citizen will ever be allowed to carry a gun... {There's More Right Here}

Just shaking my head.

  1. About the Latin American drug gangs, La Pierre missed a chance when he forgot to nail Obama for specifically handing out assault weapons to the Mexican drug gangs (the ongoing Eric Holder scandal).

  3. As far as I'm concerned, the NRA isn't doing a thing right now to change opinions about 2nd Amendment rights.

My family has long had membership in the NRA, but I go get weary of the NRA's logic fallacies.

"With a lot of people in this country who favor confiscation, raising the alarm over this real and dangerous threat is not paranoid, but instead prudent. When we don't speak out to protect our rights from threats by extremists, they will vanish.

The only reason no one is engaging in this sort of theft yet is because concerned people are raising the alarm. Let's hope it keeps up.. and that the predictions of doom come to nothing."

I choose to err on the side of caution. And while it is true that perhaps Obama is no different than any other President, he is the President we have today, and this warrants my scrutiny and evaluation and attention.

Even you, Les, can see that he has shown himself to be hostile towards the Constitution, the American spirit, and our Founders. Couple this with an all-too-willing media who literally swoons at his words, and you have the template for something quite dangerous.

Obama is our President. Today. Not Bush, not Carter, not Clinton, etc. Some of us have emerged from the shadows because of Obama simply due to the fact that in our minds no other President has been so hateful towards our Nation, and we have been mobilized.

What I see is the fact that Obama is not what the far right are portraying him as and anybody who has studied history knows he is not a Marxist, a Nazi, or in fact even a bigger a bigger statist than say, GWB, Clinton, Nixon, FDR, Hoover, TR, and I could name more. What I see is a nation torn by diverse ideologies that at politicians are using to continue to divides the nation. It is about power and both parties lust for power as they inundate the people with half truths and outright lies. And, after seeing what goes on today I must concur with the reasonable that the rEpublicans, especially the far right faction is more guilty than the left. Ayn Rand had it quite right over 30 years ago. But I won't bother you with that the video is up there on you tube if you are interested.

Keep in mind that if what you say, and I believe you are right, there is a great number who are mobilized behind the President and the politics of the dEmocratic party. So, where does that lead us?...

I certainly am not a Obama supporter, have issues with his fiscal leanings and further leftward tilt than I like, but I am tiring of hearing the same crap said about him that was being said 6 years and so far I seem to have as much personal freedom as I ever did.

Earlier this week, in response to the unwelcome public scrutiny and scorn, the NRA scrubbed the “enemies” list from their website (story here). They can run but they cannot hide. Some enterprising folks have copied and sequestered it elsewhere in Cyberspace where the NRA cannot cover up their PR disaster (refreshed list here).

    4. Sorry, Octo didn't make a case at all. The groups were on the list not because any of them were Jewish, but because

Not surprising that the nation's leading anti-worker group is No. 2 on the list. They steal million from "members" who are forced to join against their will, to waste the money on various political causes that go against the interest of from 30-70% of the members.

I know they spent a lot of money to crush workers' political rights and rights in regards to collective bargaining (by opposing Right to Work). I didn't know they also despised the Bill of Rights.

    5. "....and the YMCA, as examples..."

And why the heck is the YMCA spending money to oppose 2nd amendment rights? If anything, this list shows that a lot of charities don't help people, and instead work to take away our rights.

      "....People for the American Way...."

And this is a well known partisan pressure group that works for more power for those who govern and less for those who are governed, and also is very well known for working to diminish our freedoms.

  6. Les: I can see your point here. But consider this: does Lapierre increase NRA membership (money) by gently coaxing the gun-owning public into his organization's stances? No, he screams from the rooftop to the faithful, divides and doesn't win over side-liners with reason. That's where politics are today...

Consider what the left does on the gun issue - they dance on the graves of the dead and innocent and are all too willing to turn tragedy into political gain. What does it say for a President as well to capitalize on mass murder and push legislation that wouldn't have prevented said mass murder(s)? The left doesn't care; it's all about "winning" and sticking it to gun owners and middle America; the politicians care a whit about gun control's efficacy (it doesn't work), they are just appeasing their interest groups.

Is it any wonder most people despise politics today?

    1. Tim, I have considered BOTH sides of the argument and agonized over the issue. I grew up around guns, hunting, and target target practice while being taught by a responsible father the dangers that firearms present when improperly handled. As well he and my grandfathers taught be the value of respecting human life and that firearms should be used against another human ONLY when ones life, or the life of another was threatened and only by the use of deadly force would an innocent life be saved.

I support the 2'nd amendment and the right of RESPONSIBLE INDIVIDUALS to keep and bear arms. It a right that those who act responsibly and do not use firearms against another individual(s) should retain under the 2'nd amendment.

Having said the above, one of the responsibilities of the government (and they are limited and delineated in our founding document) is to insure the safety of the citizenry against malicous acts of violence by unstable, maladjusted, or simply evil individuals. Times have changed, it is not 1776 or 1789 any longer. It is time to RATIONALLY review our firearm policies and make adjustments that will reduce the INCIDENCE of firearm violence in our society. THIS CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED while at the same time insuring that 2'nd amendment rights remain in place.

This is precisely why I have no issue with; 1) extensive and background checks and longer waiting periods (cooling off period if you will) to minimize the number of loonies that are able to secure firearms legally. 2) Restricting magazine capacity to 10 rounds per clip. 3) Restrictions on semi automatic assault weapons. 4) Closing the current gun show loopholes.

If you feel the above points are excessive and negate the 2'nd amendment guarantee of the right of the citizenry to keep and bear arms I would love to hear the reasoning.

IMNHO the area of greatest danger to loss of personal and individual liberties lie right in conservatives back yard. But, again IMNHO, nobody seems to be looking below the surface. It is really unfortunate because, once again IMNHO, they are creating the storyline for their own irrelevancy and eventual demise.

  7. Lapierre is a fear-mongering, nihilist, race-baiting, liar, demagogue. His rhetoric is removed from reality (personally, I think he's got a screw loose) and he hurts the country. His general cause has important merit, but he pursues it down the lowest of low roads, pandering to xenophobes, insane people, and the willfully, hatefully ignorant.

I would be embarrassed to be an NRA member with that sleazy lunatic as it's executive vice president. And it's a shame. I have anything against the NRA. I'm not a gun aficionado, so I don't really have a reason to belong to such a group. But the poitical activities of the NRA over the past generation - the Lapierre years - have degenerated year after year, to the point now when they just seem out in the right field lot somewhere.

There is a necessary place for Second Amendment advocacy in America. Lapierre is not serious, sincere, or sane enough to play that role responsibly. The NRA members need to get rid of that element and put in a leadership that is serious, sincere and sane.

    1. jmj, perhaps for the first time I am in almost total agreement with you comment post. My only concern is where you come up with the "race baiting" allegation. Perhaps I simply missed a truly racist comment he made. If so I certainly would appreciate you enloghtening me with a possible example.

    2. Les, check out that sleazy lie about Brooklyn in that Daily Caller piece, and the "Latin American drug gangs," and that's just his most recent! Why lie about "Brooklyn," Les? I wasn't born yesterday, and I stand on flat solid ground, and I know a slant when I see one.

Since the 1970's, Lapierre's race angle has been to point, shrieking, at the big cities of America, invoking hellish scenes of urban minorities in hordes pillaging the nation. All the while only a tiny minority of urban people are criminals, lower than in much of the countryside, and far less numerous among the general population.

Whenever a city goes through a crime wave, Lapierre points, shrieking, blaming the crime wave on gun control, even though at any given time, crime in most American cities is very low. Remember, not everyone lives in cities. A lot of crime happens outside the cities, and the cities nothing to with most of it. And he only points to minority, inner city tribulations.

It's a "race war" fantasy and a pseudo-scientific argument for loosening gun laws all in one.

You should read about this guy, Les. He happens to be in the spotlight at the moment, but he's got a long, unpleasant, history.

    3. jmj, I'm still not seeing the blatant racism that you do. There is truth to what he says.

However (unfortunately) he fails to address the other minority communities that are involved in similar criminal activity such as Black and Asian American, nor does he comment on Caucasian gangs and criminal activity.

So, because of his omissions one can, if they choose, reasonably argue your point. I simply prefer to give him the very slim benefit of doubt on this one. He certainly gives enough bonafide beyond the shadow of a doubt reasons to consider him verifiability wacko.

    4. JMJ,

If LaPierre is a race-baiter (gigglesnort), then how do you classify President Obama's apathy and dismissal of all those black kids being shot up in his Chicago? Even the leftist media is scratching their heads.

  8. That's because Wayne LaPierre doesn't represent Americans, American Gun Owners or even the NRA. He represents the Firearms Industry. And he's well paid to ensure their murderous product continues to flood the Country.

We are awash in guns. IF they made us safer we wouldn't have 30,000 gun deaths a year.

But, Wayne is a quintessential Washington Tick. He's been in DC since 1977. He never served a day in the military. He's never had a real job.

All he cares about is making sure their are more and more guns in the country what happens afterwards doesn't matter to him.
