The Shameless Senator Harry Reid...

Liberty -vs- Tyranny

It stinks like a Chicago sewer. Senator Reid priming the pump for the Obama campaign.

The Hill - Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is standing by his story that a Bain Capital investor called him recently to tell him that Mitt Romney hadn't paid taxes for 10 years.

Reid's comments came Wednesday, a day after he said he was told by someone who invested in Bain, the venture-capital firm founded by Romney, that the reason the former Republican Massachusetts governor had released less than two years of his tax returns was because he hadn't paid any taxes in over 10 years.

"I am not basing this on some figment of my imagination," Reid said in a conference call with Nevada reporters, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. "I have had a number of people tell me that."

As he did when he initially told the story, Reid refused to say who the investor was.

"No, that's the best you're going to get from me," Reid said.

Reid said the focus should not be on Romney.

"The burden should be on him. He's the one I've alleged has not paid any taxes," Reid said. "Why didn't he release his tax returns?"

Democrats have been pushing hard for Romney to release more of his tax returns, saying his refusal to do so shows he has something to hide. Romney has said he's released a sufficient amount of his tax records.

The Democrats' push is part of a larger strategy of casting Romney as beholden more to the wealthy than to middle-class households.

Fueling the class warfare game so disingenuously played by the democratic party.

So Harry old boy, who ARE your sources, if they indeed exist?

  1. And when it is all said and done. Romney will surely have been revealed to have paid millions in taxes every year.

Far more than the amount paid by the greedy and jealous "You aren't paying your fair share!" whiners: who are selfish with their own money but so generous with that of others.

  2. We do have a progressive tax system. The more you make, the more you get taxed. Seems fair to me, and Thomas Jefferson agreed.
Because of a tax system riddled with loop holes that only the rich can take advantage of, in reality, the rich rarely pay tax at their assigned level, they pay much less. The middle class and certainly the poor do not have the opportunity to take advantage of tax loop holes, and get few deductions that can lower their assigned tax level. Thus the unfairness of the tax system.

    1. jmj, just when I thought you were beginning to be rational. Oh well, I suppose A short run is better than none.

      1) Romney should produce 10 years of tax returns.

      2) I really do not care that Romney, Clinton. Obama, Pelosi, bla, bla, bla are wealthy. Nor do I begrudge the wealthy person their success. Nor do I believe success should be punished. Nor do I believe that the truly poor should pay a penny in taxes. I actually laid it all out more than once here at RN USA (a simple and equitable tax plan in which the wealthy would actually pay much more), certainly it is in more than you have done.

      3) The PROGRESSIVE Tax code of the U.S., with all its loopholes, deductions, exemptions, etc. allow for all kinds of shenanigans (legal mind you) the wealthy can enjoy. And plenty of the wealthiest liberals in the nation take full advantage of the current tax code that allows it. So would you and every other liberal if you were indeed fabulously wealthy.

Since you're throwing around derogatory adjectives jmj, lets see what the sleazy Chicago elitist is hiding as well.

    2. Les,

C'mon, argue honestly. You know full well there's nothing progressive about the loopholes personally enjoyed by the wealthy, regardless of who takes advantage of it. There's nothing conservative about it either. These loopholes exist because of the nature and structure of our political system - about the legalized bribing our of elected officials.

Obama has been fully vetted. Romney has not. This isn't about class warfare, it's about what kind of world Romney would help to build - or destroy.

    3. jmj, I am arguing honestly. he US tax system is PROGRESSIVE. I realize it is not progressive enough with enough soak the rich provisions for you but... progressive taxation is relative.

I prefer the flat tax, no exemptions, no deductions, no special loopholes with only legitimate business expenses allowed for deductions by businesses. Oh, and no family of two, making less than 30k pays any taxes. You can find the details in the archives jmj.

Obama might have been fully vetted, he was not effectively vetted. There is a difference. And yes, Romney ought to release 10 years of tax returns.

  5. "I heard from unnamed sources that Harry Reid raped a boy in Reno just to watch him cry..."

Yes, of course. Because that allegation is EXACTLY the same as suggesting some billionaire elitist has paid no taxes.

So Atwater of you, SF. Down in the gutter Atwatery of you.

  6. Romney's 3 homes are worth $21 million. Even at my relatively low mil rate, that would be $500,000 a year that the dude pays in property taxes alone.......My suspicion is that Romney probably took a loss on some investments and, because of that, he paid a low percentage for a couple of years. He should just release the damn forms and do it quickly like a band-aid.

    1. Here's my take Will. You are likely correct.

My guess, Mittens will release his tax forms just before or just after the democratic convention. Thus putting the BS about his alleged nefarious activities and not paying taxes fo ten years to rest,

Most importantly the demothugs will really have egg (or sh*t) on their faces.

I could be wrong, but it is what I'd do at this point.

  7. As for Senator Reid, did he really have to bring up the dead father? That to me seemed exceedingly bald.

  8. Listen, my dear Ms. Shaw. If "some billionaire" can LEGALLY avoid paying taxes, all I can say if MORE POWER TO HIM.

There is absolutely NO virtue to forking over one's funds to support that corrupt, wasteful, witless, fraudulent, IGNOBLE bunch of looters and freeloaders who ruin our nation's Crapital City.

Mr. Romney was not MY choice, -- he's far too liberal and politely accommodating to our political enemies for my tastes -- but at least we know who he is, where he's come from, what religion he practices, and what he's done with his life prior to entering politics.

And we know that he, himself, is not a pretentious egomaniacal fraud, and that his parents, grandparents, mentors and teachers were not anti-American lunatics, filthy Communists, raving racist pigs, anarchists and domestic terrorists.

Your party's vicious, unprincipled attempts to denigrate Mr. Romney with a series of spurious allegations and illegitimate demands are reprehensible in the extreme.

You have nothing truthful you could say in support of "your" guy and his dismal track record, so all you can do to try to deter the only possible alternative we have to "Wonder Boy" is smear him with manufactured, patently false "concerns" about the integrity of his squeaky clean opponent whose only "sin" is having made a success of his life -- almost entirely on his own.

Your party could be dismissed as merely fatuous, if its bogus humanistic ideals weren't so deadly dangerous to the health and safety of our constitutionally-guaranteed liberties.
