Has the rEpublican Party Out Lived its Usefullness?...

Liberty -vs- Tyranny

The Neanderthal Party of 2012

Once again the rEpublican party statist power base proving it is out of touch with reason. Determined to remain a force in subduing opposing political views within the party's already small tent.

BuzzFeed Politics - The Republican National Committee's Rules Committee voted to require written certification that a presidential candidate has a plurality of delegates from five states in order to get a space on the convention ballot — a move intended to provide a warning in the event of floor movement toward an insurgent candidate.

Tennessee committeeman John Ryder push the rules change to eliminate "distractions" on the convention floor, in an effort to "try to create a more streamlined convention procedure, that better reflects the realities," he said.

"The focus is to get away from some of the residue of the 19th century," he added.

Ryder also proposed raising the threshold for inclusion on the ballot from winning a plurality of 5 states to 10 states, a thinly-veiled move to make it harder for an insurgent candidate like Ron Paul to come up for a vote at the convention. Paul has urged his supporters not to disrupt Romney's nomination, but his delegates have also bitterly battled Romney supporers for tickets to Tampa.

"Unless you've got a real contest, where you have two candidates or three candidates who actually have a mathematical chance of winning, then why do we want to go through the exercise," Ryder said.

"It's not an intent to block a specific candidate," Ryder said when asked about Paul, but said it's meant to prevent a future candidate who wins between 5 and 10 states from earning a spot on the ballot.

The threshold change was rejected by the rules committee after the loud objections by Ron Paul supporters and by committee-people from states with significant Paul contingents, but the notification requirement made the party's rules.

Damn it feels good to have distanced oneself from the fascist leaning rEpublican party!

Vote Libertarian! Vote Gary Johnsonn.

  1. One difference between Democrats and Republicans is that true Republicans will leave the party when it no longer represents them. Democrats will stay put until they die, out of sheer stubbornness. (Or is it stupidity?)

  2. I would love to see a return of the Reform Party. But instead of having some lunatic like Ross Perot or some eccentric like Jesse "the body" Ventura run it, have some legitimate nonpartisans like Chuck Hagel, Jon Huntsman, and Evan Bayh involved in it. I totally think that the public would respond favorably to it.

    1. Or maybe Gary Johnson or a Ron Paul type.

    2. Both of those guys are in favor of reform and, so, yeah, definitely.

  3. to ask that question based upon the premises you used is to ask another more pertinent question:
has the democratic process of making decisions outlived its usefulness?

And that's the key. The whole floor vote thing is an anachronism from a past age when we didn't have primaries.

If your looking for rationality from a political party, keep looking.

If/when the Libertarian party gets big enough to be nationally consequential, you'll see the same crap from them. It's human nature.

    1. It is likely the Libertarian party never will get big enough. The system we have will preclude it from happening. It is the way it was designed and functions.

Human's are sad lot then aren't they Silver? But I suppose it should be expected. We are after all animals. Just a slightly higher order.

  5. I"m voting for Gary Johnson. No way on God's green could I hold my nose and vote R even if I was drunk out of my mind and loaded on every pharmaceutical known to exist. I support Ron Paul and the Constitution, and not Republican red tyranny. I've never known a Republican loyalist who wasn't a Nazi, a warmonger, a socialist, a commie and a whole lot worse.

The GOP needs to just die or rename itself the Todd Akins Party.

    1. Hear, Hear! As you say the rEpublican party has indeed outlived any usefulness it once had. It has morphed into just another party for tyranny, not unlike the democratic party.

I too was a huge Ron Paul advocate and believe it unfortunate that he chose to remain in the rEpublican party. Gary Johnson is a good and decent man with many similar beliefs.

Todd Akin is a walking joke and it is a shame he is using up perfectly good oxygen.

The gOP unfortunately is going to have a very slow death. We'll just have to work harder to get true liberty minded candidates on local, state, and national ballots. It will be a long and painstakingly slow process.

Than you so much for dropping in at RN and leaving comment. Hope to see you grace the pages of RN frequently.

  6. Any party is irrelevant when it is so outside the wants and needs of the people. Especially when they have been so incompetent when in office.

  7. this has become an interesting thread.

and in what way has the Republican party become a party of tyranny like the Democratic party?

    1. The Griper, just for starters, take look at the congress members' voting records for the police state/NDAA Obama signed. That should answer your question. Romney is pro-NDAA, by the way, and so is Ryan.
