Drama of American Politics... GOP Style

Liberty -vs- Tyranny

The drama of American politics. Part comedy, part reality, mostly about doing make overs and whatever it takes to get elected.

Perhaps American politicians have principles. Some, like Ron Paul(at least for the most part} even stick to their principles. Which of course provides others the desired fodder to attack with a vengeance.

Others, like Michelle Backmann, who is of little substance have their campaign managers defecting to "the other" campaign. Michelle lost her Iowa manager to, Oh Dread, none other than... the Paul campaign!

Then we have Rick Santorum, another horse of the {fringe} religious right taking third in what is the newest surge in GOP primary politics. How many does that make for the GOP (Grand Old Poop)he tast couple of months? I've lost track. But I'm sure there is more to come.

When the principles enunciated in our Declarations of Independence and the Constitution of the United States of America cease to be the anchor of American values is it in wonder we are where we are today.

And yes, I welcome both conservative and liberal (rational) perspectives in response to the preceding statement.

In the meantime, because the better half and yours truly have more pressing things to attend to I leave with some interesting links.

And now, the issue the big "R" Republican statists (as well as some democrats and independents) will misrepresent and use to vilify (using it as the big wedge issue) against the only consistently conservative and advocate for constitutionally limited government and liberty candidate in the tent of republican presidential hopefuls.

Ron Paul: Sanctions against Iran are ‘acts of war’

Again Paul shows his consistency and fidelity to the Constitution.

  1. Are sanctions unconstitutional? I didn't get the connection.

  2. No, not as conventionally viewed. Sanctions can however be considered a form of "economic warfare", certainly by the nation on which sanctions have been imposed.

Whether sanctions are rightly imposed in any specific event, is of course open to debate and judgement.

The broader point I was making is that congress, and not the president has the constitutional power to declare war. It is possible we will find ourselves in yet another "undeclared" war at the orders of the president.

ie: the War Powers Act. Something that was indeed an expansion of executive power to engage the nation in armed conflict for a period of time without a declaration of war.

Paul is looking ahead, and my money is on he is right again. I'm betting we will soon be engaged again in a "undeclared" war.

  7. GOP = Grand Old Poop

Les, THAT made me giggle! I know I shouldn't because it's actually quite sad! We have this field of candidates but really no one to choose from!

We know the "Establishment" wants either Gingrich or Romney. I don't know who I want. I'm really not impressed by any of them.

I want to be EXCITED over a candidate! When was the last time that happened? It's been awhile.

Look at 2008 and who we had, Obama and McCain. Oh, yippe, the Old Man and the Community Organizer. There was NO choice!

Before that, what did we have?

    And before that?

    What is going on?

I want to throw up my hands or just plain throw up.

  8. If you don't want to be called a racist pig, maybe you should change your ways and not actually be a racist pig

  9. Pamela - I want to get excited and enthralled by a candidate as well. But sadly there is no one in EITHER party that is worthy of such admiration.

So, in the absence of what one wants we have to decide what our CONSCIENCE an live with.

In that frame Ron Paul is the only consistent limited constitutional government and liberty candidate running in the Grand Old Poop Party. In all reality Paul ought to be running as a third party {Liberty} candidate. But such is politics.

The following comment is just my considered opinion of course. What we need today are politicians with the integrity of Dwight D. Eisenhower, Barry Goldwater, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, John F. Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, Walter Mondale, or a host of individuals that cared about the American legacy and doing the right thing. Even if you disagreed with matters of policy or their philosophy these individuals all hd integrity. There were certanly others I hve not mentioned.

The challenge for us is not to give up. Rather it is to speak up and be sure, as YOU always do to rise above the partisan BS and speak the truth as you perceive it.

It has been said that "The pen is mightier than the sword." So my dear Pamela use your pen as it is indeed in your hand mighty and powerful.

A Happy, Prosperous, and Healthy New Year to You and your family!

  10. Pamela said: "Before that, what did we have?"

Well, we did have a clueless boob claimed to have invented the Internet, and when he lost the election in 2000, he ordered people to repeatedly lie in court to get the actual results overthrown... including such crazy arguments that ballots without a vote on them should be counted as Gore ballots.

  11. dmarks - I don't think Pamela had Al Gorelioni in mind.

  12. We have drama because no one ever addresses the issues. All politicians pay lip service, but none either care or understand what the root problem is, nor can they correct a problem without knowing or accepting its cause.

  13. But but... Gore did not invent the Internet. He created it! Huge difference!!!!

  14. I hear what you're saying about Bachmann, Les, and, no, I'm not a humongous fan, either. But let me play devil's advocate for a second here. a) The woman's a lawyer. b) She has an ADVANCED law degree from William and Mary (an impeccable school). And c) she has gobs of experience working as a tax attorney for the I.R.S.. I mean, yeah, she does have some major gaps in her knowledge (of American history, especially) and the religious right component bothers me, too. But I would have to put her head and shoulders over most of the other tea partier women; Palin, Angle, Blackburn, that mega bimbo from Delaware, etc.. Not that that's saying a lot, mind you.
