Liberty - vs- Tyranny

Michael Moore, filmmaker and advocate for the "99"%. Wealthy by anyone's definition of well off. Certainly he is living well beyond the means of even the top echelon of the middle class. Not that anyone should begrudge the man for effectively marketing his questionable talents and reaping the benefits thereof.

But doesn't his his own lifestyle versus his words speak volumes? What has Mr. Moore done to help make the life of some of the "99"% easier? Hypocrite? You the readership of this humble blog be the judge.

Big Hollywood - Left-wing filmmaker Michael Moore has been touring Occupy Wall Street demonstrations across the country–including some of the most violent, such as Occupy Oakland–urging activists to continue their fight against the wealthy “one percent” of Americans.

Initially, Moore tried to deny that his massive wealth made him a member of that one percent. Even when forced to admit the obvious, Moore suggested that he was not always among the one percent, based on his income: “Other years, like last year, I don’t have a job (no movie, no book) and so I make a lot less.”

The fact is that Moore is so wealthy that he does not need to worry about his income. According to public tax records, Moore owns a massive vacation home on Torch Lake, Michigan–one of the most elite communities in the United States–in addition to his posh Manhattan residence.

Through an independent source, Big Hollywood has obtained exclusive photographs of the house matching the address of Moore’s waterfront mansion. It is the kind of luxurious summer home that 99 percent of Americans can only dream of owning.

  1. Moore has also been very critical of white America fleeing to the suburbs. It looks to me like he's traversed even farther than that.

  2. You can say whatever you want about the Michael Moore the man, but his work is great.

He is always careful to leave the story open. He never ties it up. He is truly one of the greatest documentarians of our time.

Now, of course, he is highly controversial. Everyone who sees one of his films sees something they don't like. He does not attack any particular class, or clan, or clique. He focuses like a laser on the issue he's describing - or at least at his best he does. In other words, there's no third rail for Michael Moore.

You can say that you do not care for what he documents and how, but to attack him as a person, an individual, his personal character?

    Who cares?

It's just petty at best - diversionary propaganda at worst. I hope it's just the former here, Les.

    1. Jersey; I think he is a good person, but will attack him for his documentaries, which are really nothing more than misleading slick campaign commercials, made by someone with a talent for that.

  3. jmj - Just shaking my head again as it is obvious you once again missed the point.

    But that's okay. I understand.

  4. Les, I get your point. Moore is not what he conveys. No one is. But his work is provocative, interesting, and important. The very fact that you've written this point makes my point.

Moore is not wealthy and powerful because he pursued the documentary just for the sake of profit, he is wealthy and powerful because of what he documented.

    Get my point?

Actually, he is wealthy and powerful because he pursued documentary films for the sake of profit. Anything else he is just fooling some into believing.

Believe me, I know 20 times more about Moore than anyone else commenting here.

  5. jmj - Don't toy with me. The man is a hypocrite, and if you don't see that you are either ------ or asleep.

Perhaps you noticed my criticism was not of his documentary or film making skills.

Or did that detail escape you completely?

Although I have seen documentaries that exceed MM's expertise.

  6. Les, would you not live finely if you could? Didn't our country's Founders? Isn't that what America was always about - living finely?

    The class consciousness runs thick.

Michael Moore exposes the American Myth of "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." We have none of the three if we have not one or the others.

  7. @ Jersey: He is truly one of the greatest documentarians of our time.

What an asinine statement. Even honest fans of his will admit he is agenda-driven, not interested in the facts. And his manipulation and abuse of people is disgusting. I'm thinking specifically of a senile Charlton Heston and then that wounded soldier in the hospital bed.

People in Littleton, Colorado hate him for "Bowling for Columbine."

He may be a great filmmaker and propagandist, but he is not documentarian, not by a long shot.

Michael Moore is the Leni Reifenstahl of our time. He is a disgusting pig.

  8. And, get this, gentlemen. It appears that Mr. Moore's anti-capitalist film was funded in large measure by none other than Goldman Sachs. Now, that, Mr. McJones, IS hypocrisy!

    1. Will: Moore also received a tax break for the making of this movie.

  9. This was bound to bite the guy in the ass, especially after showing up at Occupy events claiming that he wasn't a millionaire.

Disgusting hypocrite making millions off useful idiots.

True. The real bozos are the ones who lap up this bloated turd sack's bs.

  11. Liberalism, hypocrisy be thy name, indeed.

I would dearly enjoy finding out which charitable/social activist groups Mr. Moore supports with his money, and what percentage of his money is actually used.

There is no amount of spin that can be spun to undo that which has been so clearly done: Michael Moore is a hypocrite.

  12. >documentarians

The correct expression is "documentary-style fictional film-maker." The style is the only thing "documentary" about anything that he has released. If I didn't know that Moore was a leftist wacko, I would think that his work was actually a parody of the left. And a rather boring parody at that.

  13. A rich man cannot advocate for the less off? Seems you are the nut job

  14. I know it is "old bones", Les. But relevant to this, it came out in the news very recently that Moore owns 9 homes. Yes, nine homes.
