At OWS ... Swank Hotels in the Picture for Some Protesters, and Leaders

Liberty -vs- Tyranny

Another look at OWS and some of the forces behind it.

{New York Post) Hell no, we won’t go — unless we get goose down pillows.

A key Occupy Wall Street leader and another protester who leads a double life as a businessman ditched fetid tents and church basements for rooms at a luxurious hotel that promises guests can “unleash [their] inner Gordon Gekko,” The Post has learned.

The $700-per-night W Hotel Downtown last week hosted both Peter Dutro, one of a select few OWS members on the powerful finance committee, and Brad Spitzer, a California-based analyst who not only secretly took part in protests during a week-long business trip but offered shelter to protesters in his swanky platinum-card room.

KYLE SMITH: OBAMA PRETENDS TO SYMPATHIZE WITH OWS, BUT PROTESTERS GET NO REFORMS, NO CANDIDATES -- NO IMPACT

RABBLE RETURNS TO ZUCCOTTI TO 'DRUM' UP SUPPORT

“Tents are not for me,” he confessed, when confronted in the sleek black lobby of the Washington Street hotel where sources described him as a “repeat” guest.

Spitzer, 24, an associate at financial-services giant Deloitte, which netted $29 billion in revenue last year, admitted he joined the protest at Zuccotti Park several times.

“I’m staying here for work,” said Spitzer, dressed down in a company T-shirt and holding a backpack and his suitcase. “I do finance, but I support it still.”

During his stay, hotel sources said, he and other ragtag revolutionaries he brought into the hotel lived like 1 percenters. He would order up a roll-out bed to accommodate guests, they said.

“He’s here all the time,” a hotel source said. “We all see him at the protest.”

Spitzer denied sheltering Occupiers. He claimed he only invited in a blogger buddy living at the park to wash off his camp grime.

Meanwhile, Dutro, 35, one of only a handful of OWS leaders in charge of the movement’s $500,000 in donations, checked in on Wednesday, the night after police emptied Zuccotti Park.

While hundreds of his rebel brethren scrambled to find shelter in church basements, Dutro chose the five-star, 58-story hotel, with its lush rooms and 350-count Egyptian cotton sheets. He lives only a short taxi ride away in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. {Read more}

Makes ya wonder who is leading who. And, what the purpose really is. Power and money Redistributed. With just a different set of power players in charge.

Hypocrisy? Perhaps.

More OWS violence. Update...

(PJ Tatler) - Looks like the “Join us or else!” mentality is growing violent at Occupy Cal in Berkeley, where an (apparent) OWS protester assaulted a female student when she gave the wrong answer about going to the Occupation protest:

Man throws aluminum water bottle at UC Berkeley student’s face

A man threw an aluminum water bottle at a UC Berkeley student Thursday evening on campus, causing minor injuries to the victim’s face.

At about 5:09 p.m., the female student was approached by a man at “the northeast exterior of the Haas Pavilion,” according to a UCPD crime alert. The man asked the suspect if she was going to the protest on Sproul Plaza, and when the victim answered “no,” the suspect yelled at her.

“People like you are the reason that California is in debt,” he said, according to the crime alert.

The suspect then threw a full aluminum water bottle at the victim’s face. The victim then called UCPD and refused medical treatment for the bruise on her cheek. UCPD officers responded to the scene and checked the area, but could not locate the suspect.

The suspect was described as a white or Hispanic male in his early 20s, wearing a brown and green knit cap with earflaps and strings, a black coat and dark pants.

  3. Yeah, know why this story is bs? Occupy Wall Street "leader"... Thank dog won't hunt.

But, of course, when dealing with right-wingers preconceived conclusions are easy to confirm so keep believing what you want to...

  4. Grung_e-Gene - And you differ from your own assessment of conservatives, libertarians how?

Source? Murdoch Media/Fox, lying liars; no accountability no responsibility. Make it up and say, its Murdoch/Fox. Next lie coming up.

And you want to believe this because it is what you want to be true.

Do you ever get tired of being played for fools by Murdoch Media/Fox??

  6. Summary of thhe above: Ema does not like it that the facts get out, so she is lying about a major, important, and proven accurate news source.

Fox News is the real alternative media, since all the other national news sources are pretty much identical and all left-wing.

  7. Emma - I fail to even remotely grasp your intellectual lack of clarity.

But then again it is not uncommon comming from a sheeple of the left.

See, two can play these foolish games. So, the choice as to is yours.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Anon - Yes Emma has done so, she is not alone. Many on the left do the same. But then so do many on the right.

Fox is a major news network just like ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, etc. None of them are completely unbiased and report "just the fact ma'am, just the facts" anymore.

So we are each left to draw our own conclusions from the facts presented from multiple sources and biases.

Both your comment and Emma's have merit if they had been applied to politicians of both parties as well.

  9. Les,

Found this and thought of you. FOX News is a major news source, but MSNBC....well, that's another animal altogether.

Yes, as it should be. And if you don't like something, ignore it.

I wish everyone on the Left had respect for free speech. Yet, there have been numerous attempts to censor Fox News and Rush Limbaugh.

Nothing like this has come from the Right in many years.

  12. (I really have to knock it off with the typos...)

Right Wing reports of the Occupy Movement are of no interest to me. They have completely disregarded the movement from the get-go, and have spent all their efforts accusing OWS of everything but actually making a fair point.

Most Occupy people, as I, would tell you they do believe the Tea Party movement has some validity, but just as they would say the defense of the "polite" incivility of the Tea Party is no different than defending the Occupiers for their "impolite" civil disobedience. Whether polite or impolite on the surface, incivility is still incivility, and civil disobedience is civil disobedience.

We're not arguing about the Occupy movement's goals here, but their facade.

It's stupid. I wish you guys would get on with the real substance.

  13. Jmj - I have. The fact you chose to disregard reality is not anyone's problem.

  15. dmarks: "I wish everyone on the Left had respect for free speech. Yet, there have been numerous attempts to censor Fox News and Rush Limbaugh."

dmarks, could you please link to any evidence that shows the US government tried to censor FNC and Limbaugh?

If you're really referring to ordinary citizens on the left "censoring" FNC and Limbaugh, do you mean by boycott, letter writing, or demonstration? If so, where exactly is the illegality in that? Is it anymore contra the Constitution than people on the right leading a movement to stop a Muslim mosque from being built?

I don't know of anyone on the Left who tried to abrogate a religious organization's right to build its place of worship where it chose to. And yet this is what the Right has done.

Isn't that a violation of our First Amendment rights as well? You seem to put on blinders when these situations occur on the Right. But maybe I've just missed the comment sections where you disagree with that issue as well.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Shaw: By censorship, I am referring to petition drives to change media ownership laws to censor Fox. here is an article by those who favor draconian media ownership laws as the means to censor Fox News.

And then there is the push for the return of the "Fairness Doctrine" whereby the government is able to censor news and opinion that it deems "unfair". This blatant censorship idea is supported by many Democrats in Congress.

The church thing is another subject. We can get to that soon. Do you support or oppose the censorship which I have mentioned above?

Even mild efforts such as boycotting Fox News advertisers are ugly and intolerant, if not un-American. Why not just turn the channel if you don't like it? While such a boycott is allowed and is an expression of rights, it shows a mean-spirited and intolerant mind...to try to pressure in some way to cause the silence of those who dare to present the facts that they'd rather not get out.

Whatever happened to the enlightened philosophy of "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"?

  17. "Whatever happened to the enlightened philosophy of 'I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it' "?

Oh, I dunno. Go ask Van Jones.

In July 2009 he became "embroiled in a controversy"[8] over his past political activities, including a public comment disparaging congressional Republicans, his name appearing on a petition for 911Truth.org, and allegations of association with a Marxist group during the 1990s.

For these issues, Van Jones was heavily criticized by conservatives. Jones resigned from the position in early September 2009.

dmarks: "...it shows a mean-spirited and intolerant mind...to try to pressure in some way to cause the silence of those who dare to present the facts that they'd rather not get out."

Those are your words, and they apply to what was done to Jones. He's gone. FAUX NOOZ is still on cable.

I believe you yourself were on the bandwagon to get Jones fired from his job.

Apparently you defend "free speech" and "the right to say it" when it threatens FAUX NOOZ or other powerful people on the Right, but why weren't you there to defend Jones' "right to say it?"

    ReplyDelete
  18. Van Jones had a major problem like David Duke did. He was a genocidal kook in his younger years. And he never really distanced himself from his Maoist past. You know, Maoism. The ideology of Pol Pot.

Dissent is one thing, but having a man in your administration who believes that instituting a government system in the US where scores of millions would be slaughtered is another.

And yes the allegations are true, and he proudly associated with a nutty conspiracy group that lies about 9-11. Dissent is one thing, being a maniac is another.

Dhaw, if President Romney appointed David Duke to his administration, would you be so forgiving?

You need to come up with a better example of intolerance than the fact of Obama kicking a pro-genocide maniac out of his administration.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I don't know about the first story but the second one is all over the internet and being reported by the Daily Californian (I don't think that Mr. Murdoch owns that one) as true.............Look, I'll say what I said before. Most of the OWS people (the real ones, not the hangers-on) are good and decent citizens. And most of the Tea party folks are good and decent citizens. This whole debate over which side is crazier is totally pointless. Most attributes are evenly distributed across populations and I seriously doubt if this is any less of an example of it. What do you say we just put guys like Keith Olbermann and Sean Hannity in a rubber room, roll up all of our sleeves, and maybe get a little something done (me, I would start by passing Simpson-Bowles/Rivlin-Domenici and go from there)?

    ReplyDelete
  20. As for Mr. Jones, the fellow's name ended up on not one but two 9/11 truther documents. He absolutely had to go and principled liberals like Jonathan Alter precisely expressed just that.

    ReplyDelete
  21. dmarks: "...but having a man in your administration who believes that instituting a government system in the US where scores of millions would be slaughtered is another."

    That is utter rubbish.

Van Jones never advocated genocide, and you know it. You have no understanding of what he supported in his younger days, and what he now rejects.

You apparently believe that a man never changes his habits, ideas, or philosophies?

When Bush was president, did you still see him as a hopeless drunk? Is Newt Gingrich still a serial adulterer in your eyes? Does Rick Perry still think "Niggerhead" is a great name for a family hunting camp?

How do you feel about any Catholic in politics? If they're still congregants in the RCC, does that mean they support the rape of children?

Your example of David Duke doesn't hold water, since Duke continues to hold those KKK ideals. Van Jones does not embrace what he did 20 years ago.

Apparently, you don't believe people evolve and change as they mature.

It's an easy way to bludgeon someone for mistakes they make when young and never forgive them when they change.

Except, of course, when it involves a repentant GOPer.

BTW, in a recent survey, more Americans approved of Communism than they did Congress.

    ReplyDelete
  22. About the 9/11 truthers: Being a GOP Birther doesn't seem to hurt people running for the presidency.

At least try to be consistent in your condemnations.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Shaw: Van Jones was a member of Storm, a group that held to the ideals of Chairman Mao. The David Duke comparison holds, as Duke has belonged to organizations that hold to the ideas of another very murderous socialist leader, Adolph Hitler.

"Is Newt Gingrich still a serial adulterer in your eyes? Does Rick Perry still think "Niggerhead" is a great name for a family hunting camp?"

As far as I know, Newt still is. As for the "Ni**erhead" rock, Obama is far worse. In his Presidency, he knowingly invited a racist hate rapper who loves to use the word "Ni**er" to be honored at the white house.

"It's an easy way to bludgeon someone for mistakes they make when young and never forgive them when they change."

Show me ONE THING where Van Jones has distanced himself from being a member of a vile hate group, and I will drop it.

"At least try to be consistent in your condemnations."

It's a different subject. Bring up the birther ideology, and I will condemn it. For now I was bringing up the facts on the genocidal kook Van Jones.

As for "...but having a man in your administration who believes that instituting a government system in the US where scores of millions would be slaughtered is another", it is very accurate. Look into STORM. Look into the ideology of Chairman Mao how it was implemented in the only two countries it conquered.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Shaw, I personally condemned Mr. Trump in 5-6 consecutive posts on the birther idiocy. And I believe dmarks when he says that he condemns it, too. Multiple wrongs do not a coherent moral philosophy make.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Believing in 9/11 lies is not really that big of an outrage, really. Especially compared to Jones embracing Maoism.

One can also add to this that Van Jones made princely sums as a sort of green energy czar. A position in which he raked in the dough while basically doing nothing. A sort of Ministry of Smoke and Mirrors.
