Liberalism Contains the Seeds of its Own Destruction

Europe's famed and admirable liberalism and tolerance are being snuffed by militant Muslims.  It's a case of tolerance taken too far, to its logical extreme:

Having tolerated Muslim intolerance, Europeans are now horrified to see rightwing political movements gaining ascendancy:
Socialists' long-standing support for European unification, religious tolerance and integrating immigrants has made them vulnerable to right-wing populists like the Sweden Democrats, Geert Wilders' Dutch Freedom Party or France's National Front. (Reuters - Anti-Immigrant Europe)
Angry, bigoted Muslims, the recipients of European tolerance, repay their liberal benefactors by spewing intolerance of anything outside their narrow, bigoted ideology.  Europeans are growing weary of it and voting rightwing as a result.

The People Get It
"People in Europe have grown comfortable in the decades since World War Two and now they see that level of comfort threatened," Grabbe said. "The result is that tolerance is no longer held dear as a European value, even in countries that used to be proud of being open and liberal." (Reuters - Anti-Immigrant Europe)
I am not bashing Europe. They have way too much socialism for my taste, and they fund it by confiscatory taxation while having us carry their defense burden. But it is their choice. They have built a nice, peaceful life for themselves, and it is being ruined by liberal immigration policies.

An Example from Nature by Dr. Michael Savage

Michael Savage best explains it best by taking an example from nature (I’m paraphrasing from memory). A society should be like a strawberry, luscious and juicy and sweet on the inside, but with barbs on the outside to keep the predators away. Yes, many varieties of berries have barbs, they are just so fine that they don’t bother humans eating them, but they do repel the pests that try to eat them on the vine.

Europe is a beautiful continent and the people are wonderful. They are way too collectivist for my tastes, but it’s their society, not mine. If they want to hold on to the world they have built, they need to put some barbs on their berries.

Alan Grayson: Unbalanced Liberal Liar

Florida Congressman Alan Grayson (D-ing Dong), is bat guano crazy.  He is in danger of losing his seat to respected businessman and state legislator Daniel Webster, and it's causing him come completely unhinged.

This brainsick ranter has taken to calling Webster "Taliban Dan" because of his conservative Christian beliefs, which he has NOT tried to enact into law.  Politico calls it a blatant lying smear.  The Orlando Sentinel gets to the crux of the wackadoo charges leveled in Grayson's communist propaganda disguised as a campaign ad: 
• One says "Dan Webster wants to MAKE DIVORCE ILLEGAL," a reference to a bill Webster sponsored in 1990 that would have given couples the option of entering a covenant marriage, which would have allowed divorce only in cases of adultery. The legislation failed.


• Another says "Dan Webster voted to deny abused women health care," referring to a vote against legislation that would have prevented insurance companies from listing domestic violence as a pre-existing condition.

• And a third says "Daniel Webster wants to force raped women to bear their attackers' child," citing a 1990s newspaper story in which the then-state representative said he opposed abortion even in cases of rape and incest.    (Orlando Sentinel)
In the first case, Webster supported a voluntary marriage option, in the second he voted on an issue that is far from the egregious wrong Democratic demagogues claim it is, and in the last case he expressed a personal belief but apparently never attempted to codify it into law.  Grayson is flailing.

Another Grayson Smear
Factcheck.org slapped down another Grayson smear, where he falsely claimed Webster was a Vietnam draft dodger.  Of course, like most of what come out this dishonest slobberer's mouth, it's not true.
Records show that Webster was deferred from military service five times due to academic study from 1967 to 1970 (once in high school and four times while he was in college at the Georgia Institute of Technology).


Once he completed his undergraduate degree, he was given the classification 1-A  (which means he was available for military service) and was asked to report for a physical examination. The documentation shows that on the date of his physical, July 26, 1971, Webster was rejected and given the classification of 1-Y, which means that he was "qualified for service only in time of war or national emergency." Now, Grayson could go after Webster for the student deferments, but asshat Alan never served either.

Nutball Grayson is unbalanced, slanderous, and off his meds.  He's the perfect poster boy for a desperate, grasping, Democratic Party.

Celebrating Political Incorrectness

I enjoyed Bastiatarian's last post so much I thought I'd throw out something in a similar vein from from Victor Davis Hanson.  The following quote is from his article, Ten Random, Politically Incorrect Thoughts:
Something has happened to the generic American male accent. Maybe it is urbanization; perhaps it is now an affectation to sound precise and caring with a patina of intellectual authority; perhaps it is the fashion culture of the metrosexual; maybe it is the influence of the gay community in arts and popular culture. Maybe the ubiquitous new intonation comes from the scarcity of salty old jobs in construction, farming, or fishing. But increasingly to meet a young American male about 25 is to hear a particular nasal stress, a much higher tone than one heard 40 years ago, and, to be frank, to listen to a precious voice often nearly indistinguishable from the female. How indeed could one make Westerns these days, when there simply is not anyone left who sounds like John Wayne, Richard Boone, Robert Duvall, or Gary Cooper much less a Struther Martin, Jack Palance, L.Q. Jones, or Ben Johnson?

Feminized Men

One or two people may have noticed that I haven't been posting anything new recently. Circumstances (work and research-related, not tragedy-related, fortunately) dictate that I take a leave of absence from blogging for a month or so as I try to pound through some projects.

Before that, however, I wanted to post one thing that I have been thinking about lately.

 A number of years ago, Dr. Steven Clark described some of the major characteristics of a feminized man.
  • Compared to men who have not been feminized, a feminized man will place an unbalanced emphasis on how he feels (and how other people feel), in turn becoming highly visceral in his personal thinking and reactions.
  • He will be much more gentle and handle situations in a “soft” way.
  • He will be much more subject to the approval of the group, and thus significantly affected by how others feel and react towards him.
  • Sometimes he will relate by preference to women or other feminized men, and will have a more difficult time with an all-male group.
  • He will tend to fear women’s emotions; in his family and at work he will be more easily controlled by a woman’s emotional reaction.
  • He will tend to idealize women, and if he is religious, he will see women as ideal Christians and identify Christian virtue with feminine characteristics
Now, femininity is a wonderful thing...in a woman. But in a man, it is highly destructive, of both the man and those around him. In a woman, femininity enhances life, just as masculinity enhances life in a man. A masculine man and a feminine woman complement each other and can create a powerful team of different but equal individuals.

However, femininity in a man is distorted and transforms into psychological weakness, as indicated in Dr. Clark's list. This type of man tends to subject both himself and others to emotional blackmail. He is unable to solve problems, because he prioritizes feelings and political correctness over truth and reason--in other words, reality. He is dependent, and has a desire to make others dependent as well. In personal relationships, this type of man can never be a true partner. When he marries, his wife tends to be the man of the family, and as a father, he is weak and permissive. This type of man really isn't even a man, regardless of his biology

When this type of man attains government office, the damage that he does extends to the entire community, and in cases such as the current administration and members of Congress (both R and D), to the entire nation.

Today, misandry permeates the United States, from elementary school to the university to the halls of government to sitcoms to simply walking down the street. Many of today's men have had the misfortune to grow up in homes ruled by mothers who had a deep antagonism toward men, and tried to raise there little boys as little girls, in a sense. Those boys have therefore struggled to grow into manhood themselves.

I should point out here that I know and have known many wonderful women, those who do their best to raise their little boys into real men, just as they do their best to raise their little girls into real women. Women who embrace the inherent strengths that her femininity brings to her, just as she is grateful for the inherent strengths that a man's masculinity brings to him. Women who understand the complementary relationship of femininity and masculinity, and how masculinity allows men to do what they need to do. I am sure that those women look with contempt on feminized men. In fact, many of them have expressed this to me. It is clear that no psychologically healthy woman would want to associate with, let alone marry, a weak and needy girlie-man.

I realize that this view will seem deeply old-fashioned to many, particularly to feminized men and the over-bearing women that control them. But those who lament the weakening--the neutering, if you will--of our nation over the past century, and in particular the past four decades, will see the truth in what I say. We have lost much of the strong and honorable legacy of the Founding Fathers, and of our pioneer ancestors. Restoring those things is a mountainous task. If we want to reestablish liberty and truth in our nation, men have to stand up and start being men again, both in our personal lives and in the political arena. If we don't act like men, there really is no reason for us to be around.

Progressive Nation


We are Living in The Progressive Age

Rachel Maddow, who I think is the smartest person on MSNBC (I know, that's not saying much), read a litany of liberal actions undertaken by President Ronald Reagan.  The purpose was to throw all Obama criticism back in the faces of us racist conservatives.  It was unbalanced and simplistic, just the way Obama devotees like their propaganda. 

If you want some actual thinking Reagan criticism, look no further than libertarian economist Murray Rothbard.  He hits the same point Maddow does, damning all modern-day liberalism in the process.

Progressivism is Here

Progressivism was ushered in by Teddy Roosevelt and nurtured by Professor Woodrow Wilson.  It was finally rammed home by FDR, who never let a crisis go to waste.  The constitution is trampled, our personal freedoms diminished, and government continues to grow. 

That is the political environment President Reagan found himself in.  That is the only defense I can muster.  Ours is a progressive structure, built over the decades, and even a good strong man like Ronald Reagan weilding a sledgehammer couldn't knock the damned thing down, although he did pull us out of Carter's malaise.  President Clinton was smart enough to continue Reaganomics, and we had the greatest economic boom in our country's history. 

It's no longer "Liberty versus Tyranny"
Rather, it's "which version of tyranny do you prefer?  Republican or Democrat?"

Better stated, it is statist progressivism versus classical liberalism.  This is why "progressive" fits the current crowd on the left so much better than "liberal."  For they are very illiberal and they castigate all who refuse to pay obeisance to their man-made dogma.  As the state increases, individualism decreases.  We cede more and more control of our lives to the state and the to the busybody control freaks who infest it.

A Socialist by any other name...
F.A. Hayek rightly calls all of it Socialism.  For that is what it is:  Chinese and Russian Communism, Italian and German Fascism, and the US Progressive movement embodied in FDR's new deal and Johnson's great society all have theoretical non-party socialism at their core.

Hayek uses the term to include even states that do not physically take over the means of production, but merely redistribute the fruits of those enterprises through the coercive power of government.  Why should the bureaucratic overlords get their hands dirty when all they have to do is shake down the producers at the end of each workday? 

The end result is the same:  The state ignoring its founding principles and confiscating personal property and "spreadin' it around."  That is how progressivism leads to totalitarianism.

The Truth About ObamaCare

Although I have taken a short term sabbatical I have on a limited basis continued to monitor evens as they occur as well incoming e-mails from loyal readers. The following really caught my attention. It is encapsulates my views and is more than frightening. As the veracity of the following has been verified by Snopes I pass it on to my readership.

Snopes says this e-mail has been correctly attributed to Michael Connelly.

A retired Constitutional lawyer has read the entire healthcare bill, as enacted. Read his conclusions and pass this on as you wish. This is stunning loss of rights cannot continue.

The Truth About the Health Care Bills - Michael Connelly, Ret. Constitutional Attorney

Well, I have done it! I have read the entire text of proposed House Bill 3200: The Affordable Health Care Choices Act of 2009. I studied it with particular emphasis from my area of expertise, constitutional law. I was frankly concerned that parts of the proposed law that were being discussed might be unconstitutional. What I found was far worse than what I had
heard or expected.

To begin with, much of what has been said about the law and its implications is in fact true, despite what the Democrats and the media are saying. The law does provide for rationing of health care, particularly where senior citizens and other classes of citizens are involved, free
health care for illegal immigrants, free abortion services, and probably forced participation in abortions by members of the medical profession.

The Bill will also eventually force private insurance companies out of business, and put everyone into a government run system. All decisions about personal health care will ultimately be made by federal bureaucrats, and most of them will not be health care professionals. Hospital admissions, payments to physicians, and allocations of necessary medical devices will be strictly controlled by the government.

However, as scary as all of that is, it just scratches the surface. In fact, I have concluded that this legislation really has no intention of providing affordable health care choices. Instead it is a convenient cover for the most massive transfer of power to the Executive Branch of government that has ever occurred, or even been contemplated If this law or a similar one is adopted, major portions of the Constitution of the United States will effectively have been destroyed.

The first thing to go will be the masterfully crafted balance of power between the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches of the U.S. Government. The Congress will be transferring to the Obama Administration authority in a number of different areas over the lives of the American
people, and the businesses they own.

The irony is that the Congress doesn't have any authority to legislate in most of those areas to begin with! I defy anyone to read the text of the U.S. Constitution and find any authority granted to the members of Congress to regulate health care.

This legislation also provides for access, by the appointees of the Obama administration, of all of your personal healthcare information in direct violation of the specific provisions of the 4th Amendment to the Constitution, and also your personal financial information, and the information of your employer, physician, and hospital. All of this is a protection against unreasonable searches and seizures. You can also forget about the right to privacy. That will have been legislated into oblivion regardless of what the 3rd and 4th Amendments may provide...

If you decide not to have healthcare insurance, or if you have private insurance that is not deemed acceptable to the Health Choices Administrator appointed by Obama, there will be a tax imposed on you. It is called a tax instead of a fine because of the intent to avoid application of the due process clause of the 5th Amendment. However, that doesn't work because since there is nothing in the law that allows you to contest or appeal the imposition of the tax, it is definitely depriving someone of property without the due process of law.

So, there are three of those pesky amendments that the far left hate so much, out the original ten in the Bill of Rights, that are effectively nullified by this law It doesn't stop there though.

The 9th Amendment that provides: The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people;

The 10th Amendment states: The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are preserved to the States respectively, or to the people. Under the provisions of this piece of Congressional handiwork neither the people nor the states are going to have any rights or powers at all in many areas that once were theirs to control.

I could write many more pages about this legislation, but I think you get the idea. This is not about health care; it is about seizing power and limiting rights... Article 6 of the constitution requires the members of both houses of Congress to "be bound by oath or affirmation to support the Constitution." If I was a member of Congress I would not be able to vote for this legislation or anything like it, without feeling I was violating that sacred oath or affirmation. If I voted for it anyway, I would hope the American people would hold me accountable.

For those who might doubt the nature of this threat, I suggest they consult the source, the US Constitution, and Bill of Rights. There you can see exactly what we are about to have taken from us.

On a different note; all is well is I am hoping to return to regular posting within the next couple weeks. As time has allowed I have occasioned visits to many "progressive" sights. What I find on most, although not all truly give reason for concern if not outright dismay. More later upon my return to full time activity.

In the meantime I encourage a visit to the Tenth Amendment Center and Jeffersonian Principles. Should any modern day 21st century "progressive" ever tell you they are adherents to Jeffersonian principles question them deeply. They are most likely lying as progressive often do. More on this later.

Obama the Redistributist Warfarist Compared to George H.W. Bush/Ronald Reagan in 1980

I have been really busy in the last 2 days, thus missed El Collectivista Presidente's Hugo Chavez-esque rant against the watered down, somewhat-toothless, "Pledge to America" released recently.

Instead of dissecting the hair-pulling minutiae of El Collectivista Presidente's all-too-predictable attack, I point you to a fascinating debate between Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush in 1980.



The contrast between the two couldn't be any more bold. And while GHB's statism is nowhere near Obama's, it proves that statists have always been in positions of power in the Republican party. Reagan states his case and does it well.

Although I disagree with tax cuts without corresponding spending cuts as well. We need to drastically shrink the Leviathan and cut taxes.

This brilliant document was an example of pure, crystal clarity until, alas, the lawyers and activist jurists got ahold of it. It is now accreted with so much case law and wild twists and turns that many plainly-written articles have been shorn of their original intent.

What US Law Says about the US Constitution

Two web sites provide excellent, authoritative guidance, with searchable text and links to the different articles and amendments. The most valuable feature is the rich commentary on case law that includes scholarly writings on the meaning and interpretations of each section.

You may not agree with where our judges have taken us, but these sites explain how it happened, citing specific court cases.

A Threat to One Right is a Threat to All Rights

I got into an argument with an old friend and fellow lifetime NRA member over that organization’s support for campaign finance legislation that restricts free speech in exchange for an exemption for itself.

Good on the NRA for defending our Second Amendment rights. Bad on them for squashing the First Amendment in the process.

Things really got heated when I excoriated our NRA for toying with the idea of endorsing Harry Reid. Reid Voted for the Brady Bill, Erik Erikson reminds us.  Politico explains how politics in America makes such bedfellows possible:

First, Reid has a fairly favorable lifetime rating from the NRA. And then there’s the $61 million for the Clark County Shooting Park, earmarked by Reid, which led Wayne LaPierre, chief executive officer of the National Rifle Association, to call Reid “a true champion” of the Second Amendment at an event commemorating the opening of the 2,900-acre park in April. (Politico)
So Reid bribed the NRA with $61 million of taxpayer money, and they in return call this petty statist "a true champion." Disgusting.

Legislation as a Money-Making Scam
It is bad enough that congress exempts itself from its own laws. It is a truly despotic government that enacts laws threatening our individual liberties in order to sell those rights back to the highest bidder. This is extortion--a sickening theft of our birthright.

Progressive America, Negotiated Rights
Natural Rights are down the toilet. The Kagan hearings confirmed that. Congress can make us eat our veggies and progressive jurists like Kagan will stand aside because they see nothing wrong. And her confirmation was a cakewalk.

If government can make a free man play “mother may I” in order to keep firearms, it can also make a free woman ask permission to exercise her God-given right to free speech. Once we open negotiations on our fundamental rights, we’ve already lost. Government ceases to be the protector of our rights and now becomes the gatekeeper, telling us which rights we may exercise, when and where.

Liberals' Last Stand: Americans are Stupid

Alas, it wasn’t supposed to be like this. We should have been carried away to a liberal utopia amid billowing clouds of fluffy hope and change by now...

It’s the damned people...
Others are aiming their sound and fury at the American people. According to Maureen Dowd, “Obama is the head of the dysfunctional family of America — a rational man running a most irrational nation, a high-minded man in a low-minded age.

The country is having some weird mass nervous breakdown.” Jonathan Alter argues that the American people “aren’t rationally aligning belief and action; they’re tempted to lose their spleens in the polling place without fully grasping the consequences.” And Slate’s Jacob Weisberg has written that “the biggest culprit in our current predicament” is the “childishness, ignorance, and growing incoherence of the public at large.” (Peter Wehner - Contentions)
Wehner goes on to list the hobgoblins that inhabit the fevered imagings of the New York Times and MSNBC crowd, bogeymen such as the founding fathers, Glenn Beck, and Vast Righwing Conspiracies.

For liberals crying that Wehner is mischaracterizing them, along comes leftwing wackadoo Michael Tomasky to corroborate Wehner’s findings...
I expected some anti-Obama backlash. I never thought his election meant we'd "moved beyond race" or the rest of that nonsense. I anticipated that a segment of the population would simply be pissed off that he was in the White House. But I really didn't think it would be like this.

I did not expect to see this much hatred, this depth of conviction that the president of the United States is an enemy of his own country, this intensity of bigotry directed at American Muslims, this degree of belief in obvious and poisonous lies.

And it's not isolated. At all. About 30% of Americans call themselves tea-party supporters. Given that the tea party movement is almost all white, and that the country is about 70% white, this means that around 43% of white Americans subscribe to this basic view. That's nearly half.
Oh boo hoo! Cry us a liberal river of tears, Michael. We’re racist because we won’t stand idly by while red statists flush our nation down the toilet? 100 years of progressivism brought us here, and you are stupid enough to cry for more.  Good thing Tomasky blogs at "Comment is Free."  Only the foolish would pay for such twaddle.

We’re spoiled brats, according to Obama hopium smoker Eugene Robinson.
Americans are in a mood to hold their breath until they turn blue. Voters appear to be so fed up with the Democrats that they're ready to toss them out in favor of the Republicans -- for whom, according to those same polls, the nation has even greater contempt. This isn't an "electoral wave," it's a temper tantrum.
There we are America! The problem is we are too stupid to see that the cure for overspending and government failure is more spending and more government.

This is the problem with progressivism: It’s “my way or the highway” with these people. If you don’t start goosestepping you’re a racist moron. Do they really think insulting half the country is a winning strategy?

The left has another problem: If you promise people all that stuff, you better deliver; the dependent class is still waiting with their hands out. You can’t eat hope and you can’t feed your family with Obama’s change. Of course, they’ve been promising but not delivering for decades. And the things they have delivered are bankrupting the country. Progressives are trapped rats, and all they have left is to lash out at patriotic Americans.

Where's Molly?

America is sick.  We The People are not sick, but the body politic is, and our nation suffers from a Carteresque malaise.  We suffer from a few cancerous growths, and termites and rodents have eaten away much of our constitutional foundation.  A bipartisan gang of chiselers has turned our federal government into a criminal enterprise that hands out taxpayer money in exchange for votes, but we're wise to their depredations and we're fixin' to clean house.  Literally.

The story of journalist Molly Norris, now in hiding from Muslim murderers, saddens me.  It is disgusting that this should happen here in The United States of America.
The FBI told her she had to because otherwise it couldn't protect her against death threats from Muslims she'd angered. Earlier this year, Norris started "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day" to protest radical Muslims' violently stifling freedom of speech and conscience. (Washington Examiner)
Meanwhile, our perfidious press, who tore at George Bush like a pack of ravenous wolves, is pissing down its collective leg in fear.  Not a peep from these supposedly brave defenders of free speech.  

New York Slimes, Washington Compost, San Fran Sicko Cornicle, El Lay Times, Atlanta Urinal and Constipation... You Suck!!!  You all suck!!!  and the quicker you all go bankrupt the better! 
 
The FBI should be tracking down and killing those threatening her, not telling her to go into hiding.

So we can't protect people in this country anymore?  OK.  Why then did we just grant asylum to Mexican journalist Jorge Luis Aguirre?  Nothing against Mexicans, and lord knows we need real journalists to pick up the slack for the media personalities who have given up real reporting.

Thank God Mr Aguirre is safe from murderous drug lords, but this reveals a gross inconsistency.  The FBI cannot protect an American citizen from Muslim murderers, but it grants asylum to a foreigner threatened by drug gangs.

For some period of time I shall be absent from daily blogging activities at Rational Nation USA. Aside from the simple fact I need a break there exits practical reasons detachment from blogging has become necessary.

My commitment to conservative principals, and love of liberty will certainly have me back at the keyboard in the future. For now my focus must be redirected to matters that are of a more pressing nature.

Part of me will miss the daily routine that blogging and Rational Nation has created for me over the last 15 months. And my heart will not be far removed from RN USA during my absence.

I  thank my loyal readership for your interest in this site and assure you I shall return when the time is right.

The Left's Sexism Double Standard

Les Carpenter has often referred to me before of the constant tit for tat gamesmanship that takes place in the nation's typically government-sponsored press. I have told him that the left is largely responsible for this but the right engages in it as well.

He agrees.

Worse yet, the right is often crucified over politically incorrect faux paus' that are simply ignored on the left side of things. My piece at Daily Caller today points this out in regards to a comment made my Harry Reid.

If one is an activist, political guru or just one that watches the daily goings-on in our nation’s body politic, one has surely noted the political gamesmanship (especially pervasive from the left) and sometimes from the right, that takes place on a daily basis.

Typically such one-upmanship hinges on pet liberal peccadilloes meant to malign and smear players right of center on the same old gotcha-canards of sexism, racism, bigotry, homophobia and greed.

The nation burns as leftist radicals tear at the national fabric from within, yet daily headlines scream, this congressman said this, was caught on tape saying this, or in O’Donnell’s case, said this, this, someone says she said this, that 20 years ago.

As a product of their “intentions,” the same rules don’t apply to gaffes and missteps made by anyone on the left — this ruling class phenomenon is so pervasive now as to be considered an absolutely predictable leftist reaction by rightists.

The GOP To Unveil It's Plan For America Thursday

On Thursday of this week the Republican party is set to unveil their plan for America should they take back Congress in the 2010 mid term elections. Said to be patterned after the "Contract With America" of the mid 1990's I wait with baited breath.

If the Republican party (and the Tea Party movement) is sincere in restoring this nation to fiscal sanity and responsibility what comes out will have the hand of Jefferson as well as the mark of many of our other founding giants. And perhaps even a bit of Randian economic philosophy.

With baited breath I await the unveiling. Given this is the 21st century, and lacking political leaders with the integrity, honesty, discipline, and ethical values of a time long past I ain't planning on much different from what we have seen over the prior few years from the Republicrats. Oops, Republicans.

This venerable and much honored WW II vet is well known in Hawaii for his seventy-plus years of service to patriotic organizations and causes all over
the country. A humble man without a political bone in his body, he has never spoken out before about a government official, until now. He dictated this letter to a friend, signed it and mailed it to the president.
 
Dear President Obama,      
         
     My name is Harold Estes, approaching 95 on December 13 of this year.  People meeting me for the first time don't believe my age because I remain wrinkle free and pretty much mentally alert.
 
I enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1934 and served proudly before, during and after WW II, retiring as a Master Chief Bos'n Mate. Now I live in a "rest home" located on the western end of Pearl Harbor, allowing me to keep alive the memories of 23 years of service to my country.
 
One of the benefits of my age, perhaps the only one, is to speak my mind, blunt and direct even to the head man.
  
So here goes.
 
I am amazed, angry and determined not to see my country die before I do, but you seem hell bent not to grant me that wish.
 
I can't figure out what country you are the president of. You fly around the world telling our friends and enemies despicable lies like:

             “We’re no longer a Christian nation"

             “America is arrogant" - (Your wife even
                 announced to the world," America is mean-
                 spirited. “Please tell her to try preaching
                 that nonsense to 23 generations of our
                 war dead buried all over the globe who
                 died for no other reason than to free a
                 whole lot of strangers from tyranny and hopelessness.
                
I'd say shame on the both of you, but I don't think you like America, nor do I see an ounce of gratefulness in anything you do, for the obvious gifts this country has given you. To be without shame or gratefulness is a dangerous thing for a man sitting in the White House.
 
After 9/11 you said," America hasn't lived up to her ideals."
 
Which ones did you mean? Was it the notion of personal liberty that 11,000 farmers and shopkeepers died for to win independence from the British? Or maybe the ideal that no man should be a slave to another man, that 500,000 men died for in the Civil War?  I hope you didn't mean the ideal 470,000 fathers, brothers, husbands, and a lot of fellas I knew personally died for in WWII, because we felt real strongly about not letting any nation push us around, because we stand for freedom.
 
I don't think you mean the ideal that says equality is better than discrimination. You know the one that a whole lot of white people understood when they helped to get you elected.
 
Take a little advice from a very old geezer, young man.
 
Shape up and start acting like an American.  If you don't, I'll do what I can to see you get shipped out of that fancy rental on Pennsylvania Avenue. You were elected to lead not to bow, apologize and kiss the hands of murderers and corrupt leaders who still treat their people like slaves.
 
And just who do you think you are telling the American people not to jump to
conclusions and condemn that Muslim major who killed 13 of his fellow soldiers and wounded dozens more. You mean you don't want us to do what you did when that white cop used force to subdue that black college professor in Massachusetts, who was putting up a fight?  You don't mind offending the police calling them stupid but you don't want us to offend Muslim fanatics by calling them what they are, terrorists.
 
One more thing… I realize you never served in the military and never had to defend your country with your life, but you're the Commander-in-Chief now, son.  Do your job.  When your battle-hardened field General asks you for 40,000 more troops to complete the mission, give them to him.  But if you're not in this fight to win then get out.  The life of one American soldier is ot worth the best political
strategy you're thinking of.
 
You could be our greatest president because you face the greatest challenge ever presented to any president. You're not going to restore American greatness by bringing back our bloated economy.  That's not our greatest threat.  Losing the heart and soul of who we are as Americans is our big fight now.

And I sure as hell don't want to think my president is the enemy in this final battle...

Food For Thought

I really appreciate my readers! For they often send me e-mails with tidbits of information that really make you remember. And think.Today turns out to be one of those days.

Here is some food for thought provided by a RN USA reader. I think you'll like it.

Once upon a time the government had a vast scrap yard in the middle of a desert. Congress said, "Someone may steal from it at night."
So they created a night watchman position and hired a person for the job.

Then Congress said, "How does the watchman do his job without instruction?" So they created a planning department and hired two people, one person to write the instructions, and one person to do time studies.

Then Congress said, "How will we know the night watchman is doing the tasks
correctly?" So they created a Quality Control department and hired two people, one to do the studies and one to write the reports.

Then Congress said, "How are these people going to get paid?" So they created two positions: a time keeper and a payroll officer then hired two people.

Then Congress said, "Who will be accountable for all of these people?" So they created an administrative section and hired three people, an
Administrative Officer, Assistant Administrative Officer, and a Legal Secretary.

Then Congress said, "We have had this command in operation for one year and we are $918,000 over budget, we must cut back." So they laid off the night watchman.

NOW slowly, let it sink in.

Quietly, we go like sheep to slaughter.

Does anybody remember the reason given for the establishment of the DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY during the Carter Administration?

Anything?

No?

Didn’t think so!

Bottom line, we've spent several hundred billion dollars in support of an
Agency the reason for which likely but a few people who reads this can remember!

It was very simple, and at the time, everybody thought it very appropriate.
The Department of Energy was instituted on 8/04/1977, TO LESSEN OUR DEPENDENCE ON FOREIGN OIL.

Hey, pretty efficient, huh???

AND NOW IT'S 2010 -- 33 YEARS LATER -- AND THE BUDGET FOR THIS "NECESSARY"
DEPARTMENT IS AT $24.2 BILLION A YEAR. IT HAS 16,000 FEDERAL EMPLOYEES AND
APPROXIMATELY 100,000 CONTRACT EMPLOYEES; AND LOOK AT THE JOB IT HAS DONE! THIS IS WHERE YOU SLAP YOUR FOREHEAD AND SAY, "WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?"

33 years ago 30% of our oil consumption was foreign imports. Today 70% of our oil consumption is foreign imports.

Ah, yes -- good old Federal bureaucracy.

NOW, WE HAVE TURNED THE BANKING SYSTEM, HEALTH CARE, AND THE AUTO INDUSTRY OVER TO THE SAME GOVERNMENT?

The Weeks Wrap Up... Fine Jazz

Bill Clinton Still Doesn't Get It

Ex President William Jefferson Clinton has admitted he was wrong on healthcare. His comments as posted by The Hill.

Former president Bill Clinton, a champion of healthcare reform, admitted on Sunday that he made the wrong prediction about the popularity of President Obama’s healthcare bill.

Initially, Clinton had predicted that the polls in favor of Democrats would be boosted as soon as the legislation was signed into law. Instead, Clinton said on NBC’s "Meet the Press," his prediction was wrong for two reasons.

"First of all, the benefits of the bill are spread out of three or four years. It takes a long time to implement. And secondly, there has been an enormous and highly effective attack on it,”
he said.


Of course the big government "New Democrat" doesn't get the real underlying reason why ObamaCare will ultimately fail just as His and Hillary's did.

The people of this nation simply do not trust, nor do they want the take over of their health related issues by Leviathan and ineffectual government.

Our nation, and it's people can only hope that one day the statists on the left and the statists on the right finally get the message.

The Power of the Tenth Amendment

I just caught the Richmond - Times Dispatch article entitled "Give States a Tool to Check Federal Power." The gist of which is to create another amendment to the Constitution. My immediate reaction... all this "Independent Conservative" and follower of Jeffersonian principles can say is amen. But after further thought I recaled the power already exists to curtail federal government expansion of power. It is known as the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. 

The tenth amendment reads as follows; "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."


As one can readily see any powers not specifically delineated to the Federal Government by the Constitution rests with each state respectively. 


In other words if the federal government is overstepping it's authority, which it has done regularly the states have to power and authority to resist and declare the action of the federal government null and void.

We do not need another amendment to the Constitution. We only need the veracity and tenacity to use the power already given us by The Bill of Rights. The people of this nation,  and sovereign States only need to wake up and use the power granted us by our founding documents, in this specific issue the Tenth Amendment.

A few weeks back Rick Moran contacted me and wanted to know if I was interested in writing for Pajamas Media, in particular the California side of the November election. Moran is an editor for PJM and American Thinker, along with the conservative feather-ruffling writer atRight Wing Nuthouse.

"Uh, yah, really?" was all that I could think. I was nervous, to be honest.

So I responded back to Moran and immediately he asked for five ideas that people would find interesting in the California senate race. "Make it interesting, I don't want regurgitated stuff," he said.

I then brain stormed and thought of several ideas (along with the help of Sam Foster and RightKlik as well). Moran grabbed my least favorite of all the themes presented and took the Palin angle in the race. Hat-tip goes to RightKlik for inspiration on that, (thanks, buddy!).

Donald Douglas was kind enough to recommend me to PJM and I thank him for that too. It's a real gig too - up to five articles, deadlines, working with an editor, press creds and such.

My first article finally made it to print, "Sarah Palin's Gentle Shade of Purple in a Cobalt Blue State." The good thing is that I'm really excited to do this. The bad thing?

--- Having my article and writing in close proximity to Victor Davis Hanson's work.

The Clinton Take

Bill Clinton "gets" what the Tea Party revolt is all about. Or does he? Here is what he said.

Clinton said on NBC's Meet the Press that a lot of the voters who chose Tea Party candidates have "good impulses" because "ordinary people" have not "done well." But he said it is not clear where the Tea Party candidates stand on "specifics."

Lets give the "big intrusive government" guy a quick lesson. The Tea Party stands for a less intrusive and oppressive federal (read central) government.

Or to put it in historical terms the Tea Party is the modern day offshoot of Thomas Jefferson's Democratic Republican Party.

Given the reality "modern education" has failed to teach the principles that are the cornerstones of our Republic this confusion by ex President Clinton is not surprising.

But then again when values depend on "it depends on what the meaning of the word is is" we can get a glimpse into the mind of the ultimate statist.

Or then again perhaps it is I who have missed something.

You the reader be the judge.

A Civil Religion

Imam Ralph came right out and said it to Soledad O'Brien when she asked him about the possibility of moving the mosque site:

Tolerance

Doctor Zudhi Jasser, Former Navy Lt Commander and founder of  American Islamic Forum for Democracy opposes Rauf's efforts and believes the mosque should be moved for the good of all.  He espouses a very American ideal:
But, I think what unites us is the freedoms and liberties our Constitution gives us..."  (CBS News)
A Civil Religion

Our founding fathers consciously chose to put no religion above another, but to instead foster a civil religion, in the spirit Jean Jaques Rousseau.  In his chapter on Civil Religion, Rousseau put all religions into one of three categories:
  • "The true theism, what may be called natural divine right or law."  This is religion at its most elemental; man worshiping God without intervening pastors, altars and dogmas.  It is the God upon which our country was founded.
  • State Religions, including theocracies. Think the Pantheons of Rome, Greece, Iran, and the ancient Israelites.
  • Religions which conflict with the state. He placed Roman Catholicism in this category. He described such religions as one "which gives men two codes of legislation, two rulers, and two countries, renders them subject to contradictory duties, and makes it impossible for them to be faithful both to religion and to citizenship."
He praised the adherents of "Mahomet" for having crafted a religion of the second category, where there is no contradiction between political and religious morality.  How things have changed since 1762!  Muslims have burst the bounds of their own homogeneous societies and have now displaced Catholics as the disturbing influence pitting the pious against the state. 

The philosopher also recognizes the salutary effects of personal morality on society: "it matters very much to the community that each citizen should have a religion."   And it's no business of the state "provided they are good citizens in this life."

The US Constitution:  A Civil Profession of Faith
There is therefore a purely civil profession of faith of which the Sovereign should fix the articles, not exactly as religious dogmas, but as social sentiments without which a man cannot be a good citizen or a faithful subject.
Theological Intolerance is Incompatible with a Free Society

By theological intolerance, he means being intolerant of those who do not share your religion.  This quote is best understood by imagining it coming from an intolerant religious bigot:
It is impossible to live at peace with those we regard as damned; to love them would be to hate God who punishes them: we positively must either reclaim or torment them.
Rousseau then explains why...
Wherever theological intolerance is admitted, it must inevitably have some civil effect; and as soon as it has such an effect, the Sovereign is no longer Sovereign even in the temporal sphere: thenceforce priests are the real masters, and kings only their ministers.  
This is the standard to which we must hold every American.  Muslim, Christian, Atheist.  It matters not what your faith is, so long as it is compatible with our civil religion.
