Wisdom From the Past

Rational Nation USA

Perhaps those who {rightly] advocate reform to immigration laws and policy ought to revisit the views of our founding fathers. The intellectual clarity of their statements founded in their wisdom should be a guide to all.
"The bosom of America is open to receive not only the opulent and respectable stranger, but the oppressed and persecuted of all nations and religions; whom we shall welcome to a participation of all our rights and privileges, if by decency and propriety of conduct they appear to merit the enjoyment." --George Washington Address to the Members of the Volunteer Association of Ireland, 1783
"Strangers are welcome because there is room enough for them all, and therefore the old inhabitants are not jealous of them; the laws protect them sufficiently so that they have no need of the patronage of great men; and every one will enjoy securely the profits of his Industry. But if he does not bring a fortune with him, he must work and be industrious to live." --Benjamin Franklin, Those Who Would Remove to America, 1784

If I offend the "politically correct" advocates of the American political left then I do so unapologetically.

  1. I've been thinking today about how the lack geographical expansion has impacted our need for immigration.

  2. Do you know why you added that little unapologetic the end of that post? Because you know what was inferred. You seem to be suggesting that today's immigrants are not "decent" and "propitious," not "fortunate" or "industrious." Right? "If" that is why you are unapologetically qualifying your post, then you should apologize for at least two things: the whole point of the post, and not apologizing for it. ;)

Upward mobility has been down for everyone in America for over thirty years now. Everything the Right has applied to our nation has failed miserably for all but a few. Today's immigrants are just as upwardly mobile as any other wave of immgrants ever have been. There's really no difference. They learn the language at the same pace, they move up the social ladder at the same pace - they assimilate at the same pace.

So really. Get over it. THIS is America.

  3. Trestin, up there, seems to think we need to grow the Father Land.

    Sound familiar?

  4. JMJ - Know what?

Read again, and again, and again and again... Until YOU understand the point of my post. And the intent. Assumptions are, well you be the judge...

Your reference to the "Fatherland" is not only offensive but stupid as well. In reality it is those with the mindset you have that are the ones who will ultimately enslave.

  5. Mr. McJones, it hasn't been the conservatives who've created a situation where illegal immigrants qualify for generous state and federal monies, but men an women who've worked all their lives and are now living on limited income can get nothing.

  6. JMJ,

Liberalism bears more similarity to Naziism than conservativism ever could. Beginning with eugenics, forced abortions of babies of minorities, the outlawing of guns for private citizens, the vilification of Christianity, double-talk about the common-man/middle class...I could go on and on.

It was surprisingly silly of you to make such a base statement about The Fatherland and insinuate that Trestin desires one. Come on, man. It was conservatives who actually fought against Hitler. It's what we do. We are hard-wired for that kind of thing. Liberals worked in the offices far from combat, or did their best to remain in colleges and universities.

Fatherland? Obama and his sycophantic rabidly ignorant Democrat Socialists represent more of that than you could imagine.

    My two cents.

  7. Well, what the hell does Trestin mean by "how the lack geographical expansion has impacted our need for immigration."??? Sounds like someone wants to see America "expand."

Gorges, I have no idea what you're talking about. What "generous state and federal monies?" These immigrants ALL pay taxes. They get very litte back for what they pay. We are living off their backs, not the other way around. Only an idiot would think otherwise. Today's "illegal immigrant" is nothing but the closest thing our businesses have to slaves.

Donald, you're two cents are insane. Get help.

  8. Jersey McJones,

I know it may be hard for someone with your lack of understanding to comprehend this, but that is not what was meant.

What I meant to say, and I'm sure everyone else understood, it that in the 19th Century America was expanding and needed lots of immigrants. Today we are not expanding, and no longer need many immigrants.

It makes no sense to bring large amounts of people into the country while we are sending jobs out of the country. It's not racist or anything crazy, it's just common sense economics, most countries on planet earth have much more restriction on immigration.

  9. JMJ,

    You said:
"Donald, you're(sic) two cents are insane. Get help."

Insane, sir? No, insanity is supporting Socialists in a nation that is Capitalist. Insanity is vilifying the wealthy because a person is poor. Insanity is telling America to, "pass the bill and then you can see what's in it". Insanity is The Beer Summit, the Olympic Beg-a-thon, The World Apology Tour 2009, ObamaCare, printing 1 trillion dollars to make our debt magically go away, etc.

Insanity is suffering the vitriol of liberalism which reeks of raaaaacism, misogyny, and fascism.

I don't need "help". I need proper governance.
