Christine O'Donnell... The Solution or Part of the Problem?

Les Carpenter
Rational Nation USA

Can't seem to get into all the primary election hoopla. Hear a lot of rhetorical feel good talking points without a lot of specifics. As usual  there seems to a bit of ethical fortitude lacking in some candidates, aka Christine O'Donnell. Certainly not something the conservative Tea Party needs. Nor should they want a candidate that has the baggage O'Donnell  is carrying.

Perhaps I am being unfair. As an "independent" conservative I simply am skeptical  of her credentials to lead. I believe a candidate needs to display consistent ethical behavior. In this realm I fear O'Donnell is lacking.

I could be wrong but where there is smoke there usually is fire.  Regardless whether a conservative or a progressive first "smells" the smoke the action needed is to put out the fire..

Check it out out here, here, here, and here. Lets hope the rest of the Tea Party hopefuls look more like Rubio than they do O'Donnell. Me thinks O'Donnell is an opportunist and has much to hide.

Just the opinion of an "independent" conservative. You are certainly entitled to yours and I would love to here them.

  1. I'm with you Les.

On the whole I think November will be a big disappointment to those of us who believe in the founding principles of our republic. I feel that it will merely be a shuffling of the deck chairs and we will be stuck with more of the same.

  2. What ethical deficiencies are we talking about? So far I haven't heard anything about Christine O'Donnell that keeps me awake at night. What are the "serious" accusations?

The people who, prior to the primary, were saying that we simply MUST take back Joe Biden's senate seat (no matter how much ideological compromise it might require) are now more interested in stupid rumors that are being generated by the left wing media than they are in the serious flaws of the Democratic candidate in Delaware.

People who think Christine O'Donnell is nothing more than a big pile of baggage are certainly entitled to their opinion, but if that's really what they believe, and if they want Republicans to win in November, if they want Conservatives to win in November, I see a few options. Tell me which ones make sense:

    a) Attack Christine O'Donnell.
    b) Support Christine O'Donnell, warts and all.
    c) Ignore Christine O'Donnell and attack Chris Coons.
    d) Write Delaware off and support Conservatives/Republicans elsewhere.
    e) Write Delaware off and attack Liberals/Democrats elsewhere.

For the life of me, I cannot understand the wisdom of pursuing the first option.

Liberals let their people get away with murder. Conservatives crucify their own upon hearing RUMORS of peccadillos. Is it unreasonable to consider charting a coarse between those two extremes?

Every candidate has flaws. Why don't people like Karl Rove pick on candidates like Mark Kirk?

  3. Get away with murder? Like we let Blago?

The fine Congressman Shimkus of Illinois looked the other way while Mark Foley was trying to diddle with the interns RK.

We could go on and on with examples like this on both sides. Don't pretend that conservatives, whatever they really are, are chaste.

Don't forget what Reagan said. "Never speak ill of another republican." Your missatatement is a blasphemy.

  4. AYATOLLAH TRUTHMENI 101: I don't want to sweep anything under the rug. If Christine O'Donnell is fatally flawed, the sooner we find out the better. But O'Donnell's "conservative" and Republican detractors have been pussyfooting around. We don't have time for that. The elections are just a few weeks away. If there's a smoking gun, we need to look at the evidence ASAP. Otherwise, let's cut out the hand wringing and get down to business...winning elections for OUR side.

  5. Les, you offered four links.

Of those four links, two are hard-line leftist media organizations (HuffPo and TPM) and I usually go to one or both of them for opposition research, as I'm sure you know because you've probably seen my posts about my HuffPo experiences.

One (powerline) described the radical leftist Bill Maher's catty attempt to smear a conservative. There's something new...? He (Maher) loved having her on his show back in the 90's when he needed her, and now he's shilling for Marxists so he's on a smear campaign just like he does with Palin, and like that article stated, Maher is no Jon Stewart. At least Stewart makes some attempt to be reasonable...

From the fourth, Politico, you offered the rather left-leaning Ben Smith's article about how McDonnell is backing out from a scheduled appearance on the leftist FTN on CBS.

My first thought is this - what she is up against is the same old thing, and you've bought right into their messaging to a degree.

I believe in redemption, and I believe this woman has the right message. Sure she has made mistakes, but she hasn't been studying Marxist theory and hanging out with Alinsky disciples.

I too have made mistakes in my life. I've been through a bankruptcy, and had some other rather painful things happen to me through my fault and the fault of others. We don't honestly know exactly what the truth is behind a couple of her situations - but hey, the nation gave Barack Hussein Obama the benefit of the doubt about Rev. Wright and Bill Ayers. If it comes out that she was really werong about her banking issues then we can look at that, but so far nothing bet leftist media rhetoric shows us otherwise.

Also, I've said some pretty stupid things, but today I'm a good person with good values and principles, and I live my life the right way. She seems to be a similar person. She's farther right than I on social issues, but we'rew not in an era of social debate, we're in an era in which we need fiscal responsibility in a voting representative. That's why the left is working the social issues angle - they know the've lost that argument.

I know she is not perfect, but her primary opponent was a pathetic career politician RINO who wouldn't even acknowledge her victory with a phone call and his backing. Her Democrat opponent is a self-described Marxist. Really? You want one of them?

She and her handlers made a mistake in scheduling her on national programming. She is a local candidate and she should stay local, and if she wants to go national - Palin is correct - speak through Hannity and FNC. No need to deal with hostiles when the issues of the day are on your side and your message is spot on in that regard.

In the Senate, you're only one of 100, so you can't do that much damage. She'll vote on the correct side of the issues as far as you and I are concerned.

And if she wins the general, yet she's a total screw-up once elected, Delaware will rightfully take care of that next time she's up for election.

  6. My point is this... she has baggage and she is not the paragon of virtue our leaders ought to be.

Sorry, but as a true "independent" conservative I simply have a problem with her character flaws.

PRINCIPLE MATTERS and she does not represent my principles. But then again she does not live in my state so I suppose I should just can it.

  7. d) Write Delaware off and support Conservatives/Republicans elsewhere.

RightKlik - Above it my answer.

  8. I'm with Les on character flaws. From what I've seen Ms. O'Donnell hasn't addressed then as you have Solomon.

I do have to applaud her for standing up and going for the brass ring though. Many times success comes not to the best or brightest but to the one that just had the kahunas to go for it.

  9. @Soloman, you said...

I hear your point, and I too have made mistakes. However, on this rare occasion I am in agreement with Truth 101.

  10. The good news was that (DISCLOSE supporting) Castle was booted. After that it is hard to get excited about the contest between the democrat and a religious republican, one who has sued her employer for wrongful dismissal to boot.
