Barack the Anointed

By: Bastiatarian

In a 2004 interview, Barack Obama was asked a number of questions regarding his religious beliefs. His answers, however, give us less insight into his theological stance than his psychological condition.

It's not a pleasant sight.

At one point he is asked "Do you pray often?"

His response?
I think I have an ongoing conversation with God. I think throughout the day, I’m constantly asking myself questions about what I’m doing, why am I doing it.
An "ongoing conversation with God" that consists of "asking [himself] questions."

By itself, that statement could, with a little stretching, be chalked up to mere incomplete communication of an idea. However, later he is asked "What is sin?"

His response clarifies the philosophy behind the previous quote. Obama states that sin is:
Being out of alignment with my values.
Now, the values that he is speaking of may be the teachings of the Bible, Christianity, his preacher, etc., but he very clearly states "my" values, not the standards established by a divine being outside Barack Obama himself. In other words, to Barack Obama, sin consists of a violation of Barack Obama's standards. To Barack Obama, Barack Obama is, above all else, God.

My purpose here is not to begin a discussion of theology in general or religious practice in particular, but to raise the example of Barack Obama as representative of the stance taken by those of his ideological persuasion. To borrow Thomas Sowell's expression, Barack Obama and those of his ilk have anointed themselves the saviors of the masses.

On page 114 of The Vision of the Anointed, Dr. Sowell writes:
In their haste to be wiser and nobler than others, the anointed have misconceived two basic issues. They seem to assume (1) that they have more knowledge than the average member of the benighted and (2) that this is the relevant comparison. The real comparison, however, is not between the knowledge possessed by the average member of the educated elite versus the average member of the general public, but rather the total direct knowledge brought to bear though social processes (the competition of the marketplace, social sorting, etc.), involving millions of people, versus the secondhand knowledge of generalities possessed by a smaller elite group.
Later, Dr. Sowell observes that the anointed
do not simply happen to have a disdain for the public. Such disdain is an integral part of their vision, for the central feature of that vision is preemption of the decisions of others.
Barack Obama and the other members of the progressive/liberal/leftist/totalitarian-collectivist thuggery oppose our liberty because they view it as a violation of their own divine law. They are deity, and we are expected to be the obedient faithful. In the end, it is lust for power over others that drives them. In reality, though, we do not elect our best and brightest to political office, but our worst and most foolish. While it is true that many of them are highly skilled at the political game and at manipulating the system, wisdom, an understanding of human nature, adherence to truth, and integrity in general are not often found at any level of the federal government. Barack Obama and comrades are in no way wiser, more capable, more virtuous, or more worthy of praise than the humblest of private citizens who bases his decisions on common sense and reason grounded in reality.

Barack Obama has spent his entire career constructing his own ziggurat, and like Nimrod, who according to legend shot an arrow into the sky and believed that he had killed God, Obama now believes that he sits on the throne of glory, ruling over a benighted peasantry.

Isn't it time to drag him down from that fraudulent throne?

  2. I still don't understand why the man hasn't been arrested for the imposter he is. As for his thinking that he's a god, alot of people think that about themselves, including every atheist.

  3. Gorges - In a purely philosophic sense an aethist could not possibly consider themselves a God. It would be irrational for them to do so because it is a total contradiction of their premise there is no God.

Therefore it would not be possible for them to consider themselves a God. At least if they are to remain consistent with their premise.

    I think you forgot "vomit."

    >alot of people think that about themselves

And so we have a lot of self-proclaimed gods not only running round trying to impose their will on the rest of us, but also preventing themselves from achieving any real growth, since as deities they see no reason to do anything other than congratulate each other on their magnificence.

    >Therefore it would not be possible for them to consider themselves a God.

I think that the way that many people view themselves as "God" is not in the sense of believing that they have a perfect divine nature, etc., but in the sense that they ignore or reject the fact that they aren't omniscient or omnipotent, and in the sense that their entire focus is on themselves. Basically, the moral relativist types who believe that we create our own truth, that proclaim "If it feels good, do it!" or that believe that they are somehow chosen by nature to rule over others. Atheist or not, humans seem to have a distinct tendency to fall into those traps.
