Our Time Of Discontent

Today is Rational Nations USA's Saturday edition post at Conservative Firestorm. As some of my readership may not get the opportunity to visit Conservative Firestorm here are excerpts from todays edition.

With the creation of our republic the founders, men of reason and enlightened thought, placed the rights of the individual above any rights held by the state. That is to say beyond what limited power the government needed to insure the existence of a civil society. The Constitution expressly states  "The powers not delegated to the United States by the constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people", Bill of Rights, Article X.

Today our Constitution is viewed by a seeming majority to be a living document. Or perhaps more accurately stated, since the progressive movement in America took hold in the early 20th century. As a result of this interpretation, one effectively used by all Progressive Presidents and Progressive Supreme Court Justices, the size and scope of government has grown to gargantuan proportions.

For the past seventy years we have engaged in foreign wars, manipulation of U.S. and world markets, allowed for special interests to corrupt the system our founding fathers passed on to us, pursued an interventionist foreign policy, taxed individuals and corporations to finance poor decisions by an unresponsive government, choose to deficit spend with abandon (Keynesian economics), allowed our capitalist system that produced great achievements and  technological advancements to turn socialistic... and the list is endless.

However, if the rationale of the movement is based solely on emotionalism and dissatisfaction with the current occupant of the White House then it is as dangerous as that which the movement hopes to replace. For any movement to have credibility it must be based on a proper sustainable  philosophy of governance, it must be principled and based on reason, it must demonstrate unbridled loyalty to the concept of  individual rights and liberties, and it must offer something that makes sound fiscal sense.

  1. So, then.....

If one supports the 'lesser of two evils' then are we not losing our credibility, albeit to a lesser degree, but nonetheless...

Then you have to deal with the fact that we have created corporations, yes, they were created by individuals, that now can destroy individualism just as surely as government does?

So, if we return government to its original purpose and size what about corporations?

    Unions?

    Media?

  3. Jesus Christ...GO TO BED! :)

I have been abused so much on most conservative blogs that I fear for my life when approaching a new one....

If you promise that I will not be abused then I will venture over....

  4. TAO - I am as I have repeatedly stated and independent conservative.

As such I respect ALL rational thought, even when I disagree with the premise or conclusion.

You might want to check out my most recent post on Hayek - vs- Keynes. You might find it interesting.

My immediate guess is you would be a Hayek proponent even given he was not a fan of socia planning because of the obvious dangers.
