Executive Orders - Presidential Power

President Obama, having seen his agenda stalled on several fronts, is planning to use presidential executive orders to move his agenda along. Having lost the dema-socialist super majority in the Senate with the election of Senator Brown from Massachusetts, he apparently views exercising these powers as necessary and proper.

Before for continuing I think it only fair to acknowledge the use of presidential executive orders has been a practice of prior administrations, both democratic and republican. The criticism in this article will focus on the current occupant of the White House specifically. However, in general, it is critical of prior administrations as well. Indeed the entire concept of the use of executive orders to circumvent congress exercising its rightful power to legislate.

Rahm Emanuel, Obama's Chief of Staff, made this statement, "We are reviewing a list of presidential orders and directives to get the job done across a front of issues." Given this White Houses lack of promised transparency one can only imagine what lay in store.

  1. The republicans will try to block everything of substance thinking it will help them this November. He has no choice bt to try using executive order as the republicans in Congress will not allow Congress to legislate.

  2. Right. BS and you know it. Executive order, expanding presidential powers, it all feeds well into the statist minded power brokers in both parties.

Is is dangerous and you know it. That is of course unless you don't view the continued expansion of a branch of government that is already well beyond it's Constitutional mandate.

Let me ask you, when is enough... enough?

Oh, come on, sir, the most excessive use of Executive Orders was George W. Bush. Surely your memory is not that dull yet.

  5. What other choice does he have RN? He won. The Democrats won control. They can't do anything because of republican obstructionism. I know that sounds wonderful to the anti government crowd you're now trying to lead, but we need a functioning government. Blocking all Obama's appointees is not good government. Blocking legislation to reform bad things is not good government.

I can't argue your point about expansion of presidenttial powers becase it troubles me also. But a Congress that is impotent beuse 41 senators decide to vote no and block any intiative started by Democrats troubles just as much if not more.

  6. mud_rake & Truth - No what? I will from this day forth expend my arguments on principal.

As you acknowledge Truth you cannot argue my point with respect to presidential powers.

My principal is iron clad. So... either join me or get the hell out of the way.
