It gets so tiring listening to the far out liberal left loons flapping their gums about the far out wing nut right. I mean come on folks, doesn't it seem a bit odd the liberal loons, now that a conservative tide is building, find it useful to call the GOP Stalinist.
Truth be known, the liberal left loons would be closer to correct had they chose the tag Fascist as the descriptive modifier for the far right. But why get hung up on technicalities. Their purpose is to discredit all viewpoints not liberal left and loony.
On the other hand the wing nut far right has every interest in, and intent of, discrediting everything not far right and wing nutish. After all, isn't politics about winning at all cost? Irrespective of any damage done to the opponents character.
A question just entered my head. Wouldn't the descriptive modifier Communist be accurately and appropriately attached to the liberal left loons? Just a historical reference one might want to consider.
It gets confusing. Our nation is adrift. Our dollar is at its lowest level in history. Our national debt has just crossed over the 12 trillion dollar mark. Our unemployment is at near 10 % with projections it will top that level soon. Our manufacturing base has been decimated. Our preeminence around the world as the beacon of freedom stands greatly diminished. Our borders are as porous as a termite infested house and getting worse.
Values indeed change. America was built strong by capitalism. We have been moving towards socialism, and continue to do so
America was built on the concepts and values of self sufficiency and self reliance. Today it seems more Americans want government to provide for their needs.
America is a nation built on the strength of it's immigrants. Immigrants that assimilated into our culture and built the great nation we became. Today we welcome even those immigrants that are not about becoming Americans. Rather they are about changing America to THEIR values.
America was built on the concept of liberty and the rights of the individual. America today is at risk of losing the identity of the individual to that of the collective.
America was built on hard work and the idea that through hard work and saving one could build a secure future. Today America saves less, uses credit profusely, and is encouraged to do so by the government.
America once recognized that if we became indebted to another nation we would give up a part of our independence. America today is so heavily indebted to foreign nations we stand the risk of losing of our sovereignty as a nation.
America once believed that independent nations were responsible for their own affairs and the consequences of their actions.. Somehow America forgot that notion and instead decided we needed to be not only the worlds policeman, but its benefactor as well.
The foregoing list is just an example of changes that have occurred in America. Over the years all these changes took place much happened that was positive. Positive changes, whether the result of liberal or conservative efforts should be applauded.
Much of early America was built by individuals that shared liberal, indeed radical beliefs in freedom, self reliance, responsibility, and limited government. Today those beliefs and values seem to be better understood by conservatives. Conservatives in the mold of Ronald Reagan and Barry Goldwater.
So as we busy ourselves with assigning descriptive modifiers to political parties or individuals lets at least understand the meaning of the modifiers being used. The modern day independent Conservative an Libertarian is much like the definition of the classical liberal. The modern day liberal is more like the definition of classical communism.
When analyzing how we arrived at where we are, considering from where we originally started, it seems clear we should embrace the values of modern day independent Conservatives and Libertarians, and toss out those of modern day liberalism.
