Do We Have the Will To Reach Fiscal Sanity, or Will We Go Broke?

The forthcoming videos are intructive. They paint a picture of the real direction out nation is headed if we do not take difficult and immediate action to reverse our fiscal insanity.

It is clear that the answer is not more spending on more entitlements to make us all feel good. the answer lies tn setting a direction to REVERSE our spending habits untill over a period of time, perhaps 5 to 10 years our budget is balanced. Then mandate in all future years the budget must remain balanced.

This will require Congress and the President to set reasonable spending priorities. This means pulling back on  runaway foreign aid to counties who are not our friends, curtailment of expensive entitlements and requiring people to do more for themselves. Holding the line on tax increases that have reverse effect on business growth will also be necessary.

Additionally Congress should authorize drilling our countries oil reserves to significanly reduce our dollars going to Arab countries, many who despise America. During the next several years as we develop alternative energy sources our reliance on fossil fuel will decline naturally as new technology comes on line. The government should be providing meaningful tax incentives for business to develop alternatives to fossil fuel.

A few simple suggestions. Now to the videos.

  1. The teenagers in our government want to run up the credit cards to the max. Then get more credit cards. They will blame the consequences on somebody else.

  2. Great point Opus #6,

Its all about personal reSponsibilty and common sense. Something they apparently lack. So naturally they couldn't possible give a hoot about who gets stuck with the bill.

Thanks for stopping by my sight. Hope to see you again.

  3. The behavior of Congress is just as much the fault of the citizens of our nation RN. How many communities are going to tell their Congressmen they don't want any appropriations? None of course. In my experience, small time it is, I'm not a big time guy, "bringing home the bacon" is a sure fire campaign promise to get votes. If the current Congressman is fiscally responsible he's a one termer. I like much of what Ron Paul has to say. But even he admits to bringing home the bacon.

Common sense says nobody is going to support doing away with Social Security. VA benefits. Highway programs. Government education tax credits. And all the other goodies we all demand.

There lies the paradox. We won't stop spending and we won't raise taxes. But we will argue. And guess who wins. The countries such as China that hold our debts. And the super wealthy CEO's, officers and major shareholders of companies deemed "too big to fail." Pure capitalism won't save us from this fate. We're going to need some socialism and honest people and term limits.

  4. You make some valid points. Particularly with respect to who holds our debt. They may hold our future because of it, Unless we wake up.

I have always said people complain about Congress and want to throw the bums out. All of them except their own that is.

Fiscal responsibility needs to start at the local level and grow "upwards." Individual responsibility, that is to say for ones self is much of what we gave lost over time. A great deal of this do to the already existing socialism in the US since the 30's.

Philosophically I disagree that we need socialism. We need quite the opposite if we are to retain our cherished liberties.

Unfortunately it may turn out to be "it is what it is."

  5. "We need quite the opposite if we are to retain our cherished liberties."

there is one of the problems, my friend. people are told socialism will give them all that they want and need for free. it needs to be shown that what they would get and are getting is not free. they don't realize how much of their liberties have already been lost with the socialistic programs already in place.

  6. Griper, Excellent point.

There are those who choose to believe they are getting something for nothing, which is exactly what the politicians want so they keep themselves in power.

I also blame the educational system which is by and large in love with the socialist/statist agenda. It has been taught with increasing intensity in our schools for years, all in the name of altruism.

The cost and burden of socialist programs have already been great and will only get heavier. The candy store of socialist programs will never have empty shelves.

Not as long as people desirous of power keep promising the populace goodies at no cost. When the people finally awake to find their liberties gone, and themselves holding the bag it may e to late.

  7. i can't blame the system, my friend. any system is only as good as the people who are running the show.

its like a home. it may be the nicest home that can be built but once it is inhabited the people must keep it up. if the home isn't kept clean it will soon be infested with rats and bugs thus making it unworthy to live in. when this happens the only thing left to do is to fumigate the house.

the same is true of any system. if the people don't care for it as it should be cared for it soon gets infested with rats also. its time to call 1-800-Terminex.

  8. Griper,

I of course cannot argue with your premise. As we all know the system is onlyas good as the people who run it.

That is precisely why the teaching of Rational Philosophic thought in the schools is so important.

Unfortunately our educational system today only teaches the Kantian philosophy through governmental indoctrination.

It is asad state of affairs for our nation. But,................, I refuse to give up trying to change one mind at time my friend.

PS: I would enjoy having a conversation with you and talking about how we may complement each others efforts.

If interested use the contact me widget on my blog and leave a number whee I might contact you.

We in all actuality I believe have the same core values and could compliment each other well.
